- templeofdog, on 02/12/2008, -2/+20Self cleaning boxers. Need I say any more?
- synapz, on 02/12/2008, -1/+10Titanium dioxide itself is pretty cheap... it's what makes white paint white.
- WaterDragon, on 02/12/2008, -1/+9As industries begin to develop and use all kinds of nano-particles, an incredibly dangerous new kind of pollution is being spread.
Nanoparticles, when airborne or absorbed through contact can have a devastating effect on the human respiratory system, and in the body in general.
Unfortunately, in the current climate of corporatism in the world, the causing of a major danger to human life will not stop a few people from making decisions that can make themselves richer. Corporatism and the 'sciences' it supports, will kill us all! - kernel16, on 02/12/2008, -1/+9"that when triggered by light"
- darienphoenix, on 02/12/2008, -0/+6Please be joking. My faith in humanity can't take any more blows.
- zombiedepot, on 02/12/2008, -0/+6Now we know what Leno's writers are doing during the strike.
- m4csrgh3yk3v, on 02/12/2008, -2/+8Don't believe it. These surface coating types have been selling this ***** for years. Where are your wiperless windscreens?
The coating comes loose and generally degrades over time and wear.
They like titanium dioxide because it helps justify the $300,000+ that they used for other failed coating experiments (titanium plasma implantation machines are all the rage). - spax1867, on 02/12/2008, -1/+6"The self-cleaning technology in our work uses titanium dioxide photocatalyst"
Holy *****. Is this going to be expensive or what? - snowpatrol, on 02/12/2008, -0/+5Nanotechnology sounds a lot fancier though.
- inactive, on 02/12/2008, -1/+5In 1951 Alec Guinness made a film called "The Man in the White Suit". In that film the idea of a self cleaning suit was ridiculous. In the end, this will be too despite being 57 years later. Just like my iron free shirts.
- ninavicci, on 02/12/2008, -0/+4This sounds nice... but what happens when self replicating parasitic nanobots try to take over the universe???
Just askin'. - KyleGoetz, on 02/12/2008, -1/+5OP said: "Good news for those who hate washing socks"
Since when do you wash wool and silk at home? You're supposed to dry clean that *****. - jesuswuzanalien, on 02/12/2008, -0/+4Why would you want that?
- DeFex, on 02/12/2008, -0/+4before big clothing companies use it, they will have to make a way for the coating to attack and disintegrate the clothes so they become unusable and you have to buy a new one. after one season.
- reyalp, on 02/12/2008, -0/+4Am I the only one who remembers reading about this exact same technology more than 5 years ago?
- DeFex, on 02/12/2008, -0/+3titanium is the 4th most abundant metal.
It is expensive because it costs a lot of electricity to refine into metal, but oxide is much easier to make. - Laminarcissus, on 02/12/2008, -0/+3Don't pay attention to that, it's just my underwear cleaning itself.
- whiledo, on 03/25/2009, -0/+3Are you kidding? WOOL SOCKS? You dry-clean those?
- Sporky023, on 02/12/2008, -0/+3dugg up for geeky
- razorc03, on 02/12/2008, -1/+4Self-cleaning nano-technology?
I don't know about you guys, but I'm not going to wait 20 plus hours for a stain to become a light stain. And what about the smell?
FAIL - sulliwan, on 02/12/2008, -1/+3http://www.ccohs.ca/headlines/text186.html
This is why we can't have nice things. Stupid human body. - NailToTheX, on 02/12/2008, -0/+2You still have to lay the dirty clothes out in the sun... sound like too much work for me... instead of laying in the sun, it could be placed in a washing machine
- im waiting for the nanorobot cleaners - tophu, on 02/12/2008, -0/+2This is Digg. I'm sure Dave is referring to Ron Paul. Duh.
- diggum85, on 02/12/2008, -0/+2Many wear only their boxers out in the yard during daylight hours.....and we're all voting for Huckabee!
- witooo, on 02/13/2008, -0/+1Humans shall become those robotic overlords and our energy source will be thousands of time more efficient than a human body.
- Orion682, on 02/13/2008, -0/+1Someone wanna tell me why I get dugg down, seeing as how Neal Stephenson is an awesome ***** author?
- jiveturkeyblues, on 02/13/2008, -0/+1***** anti-microbial products. ***** them!
- witooo, on 02/13/2008, -0/+1I'd like further explaining on the term decomposing: "...decomposes dirt, stains, harmful microorganisms..." but it sounds great, I hate doing my laundry more than any other house labor.
- cambob76, on 02/12/2008, -2/+3So we're going to leave even more small traces of skins cells, urine, and feces everywhere we go? Sign me up!
- WolverineBlue, on 02/12/2008, -3/+4So our brilliant plan to make self-cleaning clothes is actually to just paint it white?
- Sporky023, on 02/12/2008, -2/+3I for one welcome our new self-cleaning nanofabric overlords.
- tehbored, on 02/12/2008, -0/+1You're right that we should be careful with nanoparticles, but that certainly doesn't mean we should avoid research and application in the field of nanotechnoloy, a field that has the potential to benefit humanity more than any other before it.
- jesuswuzanalien, on 02/12/2008, -0/+1I need to say more, like man can you just imagine just bustin a load in those things!
- KingGorilla, on 02/12/2008, -0/+1Self cleaning wool, self tuning guitar! I just hope I'm of some use to our robotic overlords when humans are deemed as an energy source
- F1R3DUP, on 02/12/2008, -2/+2Now if i could get a nano tech self-cleaning ***** i'd be set...
- Orion682, on 02/12/2008, -1/+1Yeah, except his suit also "never wore out" and kinda sorta glowed. The entire premise of that movie was absurd, since people will always continue to buy clothes when they outgrow them, when they rip, etc etc. No comparison.
- ho0ber, on 02/12/2008, -1/+1My iron-free shirts work fine. You must be doing it wrong. (YOU STILL HAVE TO HANG THEM UP NICELY, NUMBNUTS)
- crossers, on 07/12/2008, -0/+0great news!good product!

- Orion682, on 02/12/2008, -2/+1/me has flashbacks to the Diamond Age
- sockpuppets, on 02/12/2008, -7/+6Finally I can get a girlfriend that's skeet resistant.
- computergod, on 02/12/2008, -4/+3If you want cloth that is really easy to clean, then you can use a very old fiber: Asbestos. There are a few different kinds, and one of them can be made into cloth. Cleaning is done with a blowtorch.
- Hellbacon, on 02/12/2008, -3/+2Sure you can.
- juanchopanza, on 02/12/2008, -2/+0I already have nasty things moving around in my socks from three years tromping around in swamps. I don't need any nanobots competing with my colony of trichophyton rubrum unless they can get my feet moving without any effort on my part.
- diggum85, on 02/12/2008, -3/+1Blows...LOL!
- tempest212, on 02/12/2008, -4/+1I'm still waiting for nanotechnology that lets you communicate via codec.
- AttilaD, on 02/12/2008, -4/+1buried my own comment.
- Ultra99, on 02/12/2008, -5/+1Skidmark-Be-Gone!
- diggum85, on 02/12/2008, -7/+2Is there enough of this material available to fashion a dress for a rotund white house intern?
- DaveDaveson, on 02/12/2008, -9/+1LOL, Bill Clinton what a *****.
Glad the quality of president has improved since then.
