- zerries, on 09/05/2008, -2/+44This is the last we will ever hear of this. Just like every other possible HIV breakthrough.
- afflaf, on 09/05/2008, -1/+23again?
- pintomp3, on 09/05/2008, -0/+13we're not done with them. the republican party is still using it as a platform.
- Crimsoneer, on 09/05/2008, -3/+16The 1950's called, they want their incredibly backwards and unscientific ideas back.
- SubjectiveC, on 09/05/2008, -1/+11excerpt from Wikipedia entry for Digg.com, year 2150:
"Originally a social bookmarking site, Digg is better known today for its extensive history of medical breakthroughs, delivering cures for AIDS, cancer, and Republicans on an almost weekly basis. Since its conception in 2004, it is estimated nearly 2/3 of today's world population exist thanks to the efforts of national heroes, MrBabyMan, MakiMaki, and badwithcomputer" - UndyingShadow, on 09/05/2008, -1/+11That's because there are rarely ever "magic bullets" that 100% instantly cure anything. It will likely be developed into a good treatment, which along with all the other awesome AIDS treatments, will allow those infected with HIV to live decades instead of years. We've made amazing progress, and we still are.
- BXRWXR, on 09/05/2008, -1/+10Well, I guess you'll just have to keep taking cold showers until then, won't you.
- TheUngod, on 09/05/2008, -0/+9This was the first time I've seen "vagina" and "ball" in a sentence on digg that wasn't meant sexually. You even threw "protein" in there. Bravo.
- BradOFarrell, on 09/05/2008, -3/+11***** off.
- Quantumsparrow, on 09/05/2008, -0/+7*cough*greatestnumberofHIVinfectionisinAfricanwomen*cough*
What was that? You were saying something troll-y? - friz, on 09/05/2008, -0/+5This and the vaginal proteins makes for a good outlook for the future (assuming all is true and we can get the ball rolling).
- chedonline, on 09/05/2008, -1/+6Yes. Literally, please.
- nomadxx7, on 09/05/2008, -1/+6This is similar to the cure for cancer they found in the Amazon. Seems Big Pharm didn't like it and made it its mission to eradicate the plant. Tried to find some source files but all I get are some pages --> refutes. I, however, actually read it in a book on cancers and viruses while taking med classes
- FredFredrickson, on 09/05/2008, -0/+4Another round of ideas that have real potential.
Another round of Diggers acting callous and rude for people being excited about a possible cure for a deadly disease.
Another day on planet Earth. - itsfunny, on 09/05/2008, -2/+6Yet another medical breakthrough on Digg.
- m0laria, on 09/05/2008, -0/+4Antiobiotics don't kill viruses, they kill bacteria. They interfere with the production of bacterial cell walls, and viruses don't have cell walls. So, they may take a large dose of something, but its not antiobiotics.

That can be said about every virus known to man. HIV/AIDS isn't even the scariest virus out there. The influenza virus is the worst (think common cold and other strains). During World War I, the Spanish influenza killed over 50 million people in the world (world population at the time was around 1.5 billion). This was greater than the causalities of the war (20 million). Though this strain is "dead" we still ahve to watch out for it. A gentleman was found recently (by recent I mean in the last 15 years) to have a "deceased" Russian influenza strain that had mutated or at least been in hiding since it was discovered in 1978.
So though HIV/AIDS is hard to cure because it adapts, the same can be said about all viruses. Why do we always have to get vaccinated yearly for the flu? Because the influenza strain mutates from year to year and our flu vaccine is only effective against the most popular, heavily occuring strain at the time (just because you get a flu shot doesn't protect you against getting the flu... only the strain of influenza that the vaccine was made for)
Also, this is why the "scare" of bird flu is so scary. The thing about influenza strains is that they start in water fowl --> domesticated fowl --> humans. The thing about all previous lethal influenza strains is that they didn't kill their hosts (water fowl or chickens). The new H1N5 avian flu influenza strain has said to have killed 50% of their hosts (unprecendented). So we have to worry if this makes a jump we may see over 300 million dead from this strain (same ratio of dead as spanish influenza) - paintgrl, on 09/05/2008, -2/+6Wahoo for science. I hope this turns out to be a new lead in the eventual cure to this horrible disease.
- SPECOPS, on 09/05/2008, -0/+4Evidence that HIV--->AIDs (credible sources)
http://www.niaid.nih.gov/factsheets/howhiv.htm
http://www.webmd.com/hiv-aids/guide/hiv-aids-among ... - cschmitz, on 09/05/2008, -1/+4Digg *links* to another solution to a world problem
- nomadxx7, on 09/05/2008, -0/+3However, when we adapt to "neutralize" something it tends to come back and bite us in the ass.
I.E. Superbugs (antibiotic resistant strains), recurrence of "extinct" viruses (i.e. Measles) - csupra, on 09/05/2008, -1/+4This looks more like some scientist looking for more funds. They always make the news, take money , and then years pass by while they investigate and test more and more and more and more and then when there's no more money: hey we found another breakthrough, but we need more money...... it never ends, the same with cancer.
- xteam, on 09/05/2008, -0/+3explain yourself.
- nomadxx7, on 09/05/2008, -0/+3Please cite some credible sources (i.e. medical papers, journals, etc). Links to a wordpress blog and a torrent file that I can't even open aren't credible sources. Use of doctors, WHO, CDC, etc are more credible. I don't believe you and your use of garbage sources to refute HIV / AIDS doesn't help your case. I also don't get how Human Immunodeficiency Virus and Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome are not similar or caused from each other. You may be right and they may be two different viruses but please cite something a little more credible than a wordpress blog
- dunezone, on 09/05/2008, -0/+3Haha, I love how everyone makes jokes about these so called cures. Its going to be like the discovery of modern anti-biotics. What we find today wont be figured out for another ten years cause of the studies and actually seeing if it works, its mostly theories. In 1932 or 1933, Ian Fleming witnessed mold attacking a bacteria colony by producing penicillin. He reported his discovery to several medical journals and it went almost unnoticed until two guys gave a look into it and realized if they could produce enough penicillin and possibly administer it to a person with an infection they might be able to clear the infection. It wasn't until ten years later they administered the first anti-biotics to a patient who ended up dieing not because it didn't work but because they couldn't produce enough of it to clear his infection.
- leif777, on 09/05/2008, -0/+3WOOO HOOO!!!!... i'm going to africa to bang hookers without a condom right now!...
...please, call me when there's a cure. - LogicBomB, on 09/05/2008, -0/+2Doctors who work with aids patients occasionally get infection "scares" and they immidiately take a large dose of potent antibotics to kill the virus before it spreads into their system.
At least that's what I read. - Mockylock, on 09/05/2008, -0/+2Pshh. Still wouldn't sell like that penis enlargement pill that I was offered the other day.
- Shady77, on 09/05/2008, -1/+3I thought Diggers cured HIV last week. No wait, that was cancer...
- sammysnake, on 09/05/2008, -0/+2My week wouldn't be complete if there wasn't an article on Digg about how we just cured HIV.
- yournamehere, on 09/05/2008, -1/+3technically, sperm is vaginal protein
- AlexWiggy, on 09/05/2008, -4/+6Digg solves another world problem.
- ASSASSYN360, on 09/05/2008, -0/+2Digg has hosted every medical breakthrough known to man yet none have hit the international stage to be utilized.
- Mpwns, on 09/05/2008, -0/+2how many times have we found the cure for aids on digg now?
- Tenlow, on 09/05/2008, -0/+2Yeah but from a layman's perspective, a treatment is not a cure. Making someone just well enough to not die so they keep buying more medication is *not* what we want to hear about.
- Cappez, on 09/05/2008, -0/+2AIDS is a terrible disease. There is a really excellent BBC documentary on the subject online:

Living with HIV, race against time while waiting for the next treatment: http://edutube.org/en/video/bbc-documentary-hiv-an ...

- Skywise, on 09/05/2008, -3/+5Except hasn't the main problem with HIV is that it tends to radically adapt to any prevention/cure?
- nomadxx7, on 09/05/2008, -0/+2Thanks effect1 :)
Hard to cite it when it's sitting at home on my shelf and I'm at work. However, I think that we really need to look into this kind of stuff. I remember hearing about the tribal leader in Africa who said he had an herbal concoction to cure AIDS and the Western world laughed at him. I think in general we don't really think anything non-manmade can cure horrible diseases. - effect1, on 09/05/2008, -0/+1I saw that movie too! Sean Connery: "I've found the cure of the 20th century and now I've lost it!" with his Scottish brogue.
- TheImaginator, on 09/08/2008, -0/+1Damn - I misread it.
Digg me down. - sgvprelude, on 09/05/2008, -0/+1In other Digg news...
We cure cancer, AIDs, world hunger, war, and my virginity. - qwertycopter, on 09/05/2008, -0/+1Two hands?
- Divals, on 09/05/2008, -0/+1What really disturbs me is that two people actually dugg that up.
- phantomcrawl, on 09/06/2008, -0/+1death neutralizes HIV, it also cures various other diseases
- KRY4no1, on 09/05/2008, -0/+1Where can I find a "discount" brothel?
Google Maps search directory returned no results. - Gloogle, on 09/06/2008, -0/+1That's what's remarkable about medicine the solution is always so simple is always overlooked.
- Culyt, on 09/07/2008, -0/+1I wouldn't call it 'another' world problem, its the same one digg has been 'solving' since forever, that and the cancer.
- s4g4n, on 09/07/2008, -0/+1I'm running out of fingers counting cures for hiv just on digg.
- 80sreject, on 09/05/2008, -0/+1Once we find a link to neutralize being an *****, we won't have to hear from you.
