- sinverb, on 08/06/2008, -6/+39It must have been something Keith Richards coughed out.
- Abatrour, on 08/06/2008, -2/+33Yo Dawg! I herd you like virii. So we put a virus in your virus so you can get sick while you get sick!
... I can't believe I just said that. I feel so duuuumb. - PullingTeeth, on 08/06/2008, -5/+31Would that make us the parent of the virus? I'd feel kind of awkward having to feed my virus chicken soup so it could kick my immune system's ass.
- soulcatalyst, on 08/06/2008, -0/+26"So, naturalists observe, a flea
Has smaller fleas that on him prey;
And these have smaller still to bite 'em;
And so proceed ad infinitum."

- thisisntjon, on 08/06/2008, -3/+23I'm surprised this wasn't titled "cure for HIV discovered".

- MaxIsBored, on 08/06/2008, -1/+15The human race is a virus. We pillage our hosts resources and not move on until everything is dead and destroyed.
We get sick all the time. - ePuck, on 08/06/2008, -1/+14Yeah probably, but a scary thought. Who knows what the bug we created would do to healthy people? Or if it mutated?
- Godlesswanderer, on 08/06/2008, -1/+13Giant virus? That's it, I'm making a virus defence kit. Don't come crying to me when there's a giant cell roaming the streets devouring your family.

- RedDragon870503, on 08/06/2008, -1/+11Could this be a new way to fight viruses?
- Khast, on 08/06/2008, -1/+10What we define as life, is an observation in our experience. What constitutes as life elsewhere might not be the same. On the micro level, it can be different than it is in the macro level..
We teach that the universe is infinite. I often question, if the universe can be infinite, maybe it too can be infinitely small as well. What we see in our perspective, we are large, and there are bigger things than us...there are many things smaller than us. Even dust has living organisms on it. Who's to say there isn't life smaller than that...that the speck of dust possibly is a planet all to itself, teaming with life. Who's to say that time affects creatures of this size the same as it is in our perspective?
Life is just a definition from our perspective... - S5S5S5, on 08/06/2008, -1/+10Payback is a bitch......
- BigConna, on 08/06/2008, -1/+10Looks like Sputnik killed the mimivirus star.
- Wenz, on 08/06/2008, -1/+10Dammit man....say it in fewer words so I will read your rant, otherwise, I ain't readin' it!

- inactive, on 08/06/2008, -0/+6Oh how the jesus crispies are going to digg you down for that
- metroidragon, on 08/06/2008, -0/+6Isn't this exactly how 'I am Legend' started?
- Dotcommer, on 08/06/2008, -1/+6It was the dumbest intelligent thing said all day.
- Willravel, on 08/06/2008, -0/+5Let this be a lesson to you, bacteria: don't have sex with Paris Hilton.
- Iztikeit, on 08/06/2008, -1/+6I was actually thinking about something similar to this the other afternoon. Using viruses to get other viruses "sick". Hopefully something comes out of this.
Genetically engineering anti-viral viruses seems a little dangerous, but maybe that is where medical science is heading.
Who cares about the life debate? Let's start churning out cures! - AndrewMoyer, on 08/06/2008, -0/+5Sing it with me!
"I know an old lady who swallowed a virus... she swallowed the virus to catch a virus, she swallowed the virus to catch a virus, she [...]" - CLAWC, on 08/06/2008, -0/+4So a possible cure could actually be another infection?
- leerayIG88, on 08/06/2008, -0/+4"I got worms."
- ekdevdas, on 08/06/2008, -0/+4hahaha.
- monkeeofevil, on 08/06/2008, -1/+5That is so incredibly insightful.. You my friend, get "it" (it being the underlying nature of the universe, teeming with life on every level, and all part of each other.)
I can't believe people are digging you down.. - AnotherBrian, on 08/06/2008, -0/+4Damn right! Payback's a bitch.
- IAmDali, on 08/06/2008, -3/+7"The debate about what counts as a living thing is fuelled today [...] the discovery of a giant virus that itself falls ill through infection by another virus seems to suggest they too are alive, highlighting how there is no definition of what is 'living'.
1) The debate about what counts as a living thing has not been fuelled today. It has no bearing whatsoever on anybody's operating definition of "life".
2) It doesn't suggest that viruses are "alive". It has no bearing whatsoever on anybody's operating definition of "life." A very simple definition of life (probably concerning reproduction) will dictate that a virus be considered "alive"; a different definition, will not.
3) It doesn't highlight "how there is no definition of what is 'living'". It has no bearing whatsoever on anybody's operating definition of life. There are plenty of established definitions of "life". Apparently the digger never made it past the 5th grade.
Buried for being the most ignorant and dimwitted summary I've ever seen. - infinitus64, on 08/06/2008, -0/+4Is your virus hiv perhaps?
- twigboy, on 08/06/2008, -1/+5AIDS! AIDS AIDS AIDS!
EVERYONE HAS AIDS! - drewbe121212, on 08/06/2008, -0/+4This is definately "I am Legend" just waiting to happen.
- fas2, on 08/06/2008, -0/+3In Soviet Russia viruses are getting viruses.
