Researchers improving plastics made from corn and soy proteins

physorg.com — David Grewell picked up the little plastic model of a molecule he keeps in his office. He scrunched the model's folding pieces into a ball. That's about the shape of a soy or corn protein, said Grewell, an Iowa State University assistant professor of agricultural and biosystems engineering.

    Because after peak oil around or after 2025 to 2050, we will need something to keep plastics cheap that isn't made from fossil fuel oil.

    And I would like to still be able to use plastics when I'm 80.

  • chaseacej, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I am currently a Teachers Assistant at Iowa State University working under Dr. Grewell. It is for a metals and plastics intro class. I also am involved with making some of the plastics talked about above. It is a very interesting process. The ultrasonic research he does is very interesting.
