- billricardi, on 12/25/2008, -0/+83Though there aren't a lot of hard conclusions yet, I'm glad to see more research in this area. Some of the more heartbreaking diseases and conditions on the planet are brain related, and an amazing number of people that you know and love will fall victim to one of them.
My family for example, in the last 2 generations, have experienced stroke, Alzheimer, impact sourced memory loss, and aphasia. Sometime in your life, odds are that someone close to you is going to experience one of the first two. So support and encourage the research folks! - elcamino, on 12/25/2008, -3/+31So, basically he's been wrong for 9 years?
- threon, on 12/25/2008, -2/+25My friend who fasts says he's hungry and he wants a pizza.
- inactive, on 12/25/2008, -15/+35My friend who fasts A LOT has super human strength straight up and his dad who also fasts is literally a prophet. He says (as he has for 10 years or so now) that the economy will totally collapse and there will be civil war in American and to buy gold and stored food, seeds, guns etc
- metaknite, on 12/25/2008, -4/+21You, my friend, won best comment of the day.
- IronBreakfast, on 12/25/2008, -3/+18Makes drugs that much more worth doing
- NAyet, on 12/25/2008, -0/+12If this was interesting to anyone check out the book "Train Your Mind, Change Your Brain." It's all about neuroplasticity (how your brain can change and grow) and its relationship to spirituality (mostly Buddhism).
good ***** - TehMoos, on 12/25/2008, -0/+12Woah. Finally someone who knows what aphasia is! My mom's got it too, from a stroke.
I wrote down some of this stuff and I'm telling her to give it to her acupuncturist to see what she can hook her up with. - rentmitchum, on 12/25/2008, -4/+15A synthetic cannabinoid, HU-210, has been shown to stop inflammation and stimulate neural growth of the hippocampus.. part of the benefit of ending the drug war will be the allowed research on the vast opportunities for therapy that many variations on street drugs can provide..
There's so many synthetic cannabinoids, and I'd be surprised if anyone here on digg or basically anywhere online other than recreational drug using communities know about them.. they have so much potential. Educate yourselves.
Here's the wikipedia entry, it's interesting and a start.. there are so many others too with many possible benefits.. like preventing brain damage and helping to prevent or possibly reverse alzheimer's..

End the war on drugs. We have enough other wars. - XcentryK, on 12/25/2008, -0/+11I was going to make a pot joke, but then I read all the comments already made on that matter and I decided not to hop on the retarded carriage.
- acormon, on 12/25/2008, -0/+9Algernon-Gordon Effect?
- DeskFlyer, on 12/25/2008, -2/+11What if you're like me and don't have any to begin with?
- Paulorific, on 12/25/2008, -0/+7I actually visited the website you posted out of curiosity and it seems like you do not know how to write proper sentences...which is a problem when you want to write a blog. So not only are you a spammer, but you also have a sucky website. What a coincidence.
edit; it's also quite obvious that you comment on your own posts to make it seem like people read your website. - inactive, on 12/25/2008, -0/+7Dont wanna read the entire article but I've heard of "hard resets" on brains before. You don't really lose any information, but youre pretty much dead, they do something or other, and it resets your brain so all your neurological connections and ***** get redone
yeah you can tell it's been a while since I read about that, lol - vsujohn2, on 12/25/2008, -0/+7If you read the article you'd realize that you wouldn't be getting a boner, at least not as easily as before.
- Asheis, on 12/25/2008, -1/+7I don't agree with you that digg users on here have no idea about the synthetic cannabinoids (I being a digg user, and a neuropsychology major have heard plenty about them).
It's amazing though, some of the beneficial effects this drug can have. It by no means should be schedule one. No medical uses my ass! - rynsa, on 12/25/2008, -0/+5Thank you.
- rynsa, on 12/25/2008, -1/+6Dugg, dugg, dugg! I wish I could digg you a hundred times.
Anyone who has had personal experience with any of the conditions you've mentioned above (I might also add complications form both cancer and acquired brain injuries) can take some hope in this article.
I've also seen/read that it is possible to strengthen neural networks through careful application of sound. I believe Dr. Oliver Sacks has written on the subject. - Trigonometron, on 12/25/2008, -1/+5some articles on intermittent fasting:

- Richandler, on 12/26/2008, -0/+4Actually if he bough gold 10 years ago he has more than doubled his investment.
- aliHG, on 12/25/2008, -0/+4Let me forward this to my zombie pals.
- UNL1M1T3D, on 12/26/2008, -0/+4Now if all other diggers could think like that...
- JYoungest1, on 12/25/2008, -4/+7So your his friend with superhuman strength?!
- shannimal, on 12/26/2008, -1/+4I don't like articles that don't know the difference between your and you're.
- inactive, on 12/25/2008, -2/+5This is actually quite cool
- Darkangel754, on 12/26/2008, -2/+5Nothing can run Crysis.
- pennvneff, on 12/25/2008, -0/+3Brain plasticity
- inactive, on 12/26/2008, -2/+5I can.

My christmas present to myself.
I justify the expense of such high end gear by pirating everything except the ones I play online
I love it, I just look at my computer and beat off. No need to even bring up a porn site. - KonnayahaBoogie, on 12/26/2008, -1/+4My friend fasts, too. But he can't play Crysis.
- Barackalypse, on 12/25/2008, -0/+3Of course its possible, your body built itself up from relatively few cells at conception to the fully functioning being you are today, I haven't yet heard any good reason why it also couldn't continue to replace dead cells and keep you going forever.
- schroeder, on 12/25/2008, -0/+3No, but you've just reminded me why there is a bury button.
- TheMoniker, on 12/26/2008, -0/+3I totally disagree and I can think of a few friends who are losing family members to Alzheimer's who would disagree on far stronger terms.
- UNL1M1T3D, on 12/26/2008, -1/+4How often does he fast?
- Ghostalker, on 12/26/2008, -0/+2I'll drink to this, heavily!
- blackdeath88012, on 12/26/2008, -0/+2^
You can't convince me you're human, robot! - inactive, on 12/26/2008, -1/+3Zombie: mmm, more brains.
Zombie: OM NOM NOM NOM - RobotBuddha, on 12/25/2008, -1/+3I tried a fast, hoping to gain some mystical insight into the nature of my own mind. That was pretty much my insight. Pizza is awesome. Just the fact that we can get food, that people don't have to starve, even if the food isn't of the highest quality, is beautiful.
- RobotBuddha, on 12/25/2008, -0/+2Dugg, but it's more than a little heavy on optimism Vs. hard data.
- Renian, on 12/26/2008, -0/+2This has been known for quite a while. Fasting and exercise cause your body to release BDNF, which causes you body to produce more brain cells and also increases your cognitive ability while it's in your bloodstream in general. I fasted for two weeks in my senior year of high school...I'm pretty sure I had a high level of BDNF in my bloodstream during that time, as my GPA spiked from a 96 to a 106. (I was taking four AP classes. They had a weighting of +10 to your GPA). I'm surprised they didn't mention BDNF in the actual article...though they do in the references.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BDNF - nickpick, on 12/25/2008, -1/+3And religion says, no! Anyway, ***** RIAA!
- UNL1M1T3D, on 12/26/2008, -0/+2Asheis can you give us Diggers some interesting other articles that might be able to better our brains, given it's your major? Any articles are appreciated.
- NorthMass, on 12/26/2008, -0/+2This is cool.
- Murphys, on 12/26/2008, -0/+2I was going to write a witty comment, but I lost my train of thought..................................
- buzzkilled, on 12/26/2008, -0/+2Ehh, you pass the internet intelligence test because you have perfect grammar, punctuation and spelling.
If you really want to feel good about yourself, just spend 10 minutes reading youtube comments. - MillionsLivio, on 12/26/2008, -2/+4And your dad is Ron Paul?
- JeffRyemon, on 12/26/2008, -0/+2Dugg for SCIENCE!
- UNL1M1T3D, on 12/26/2008, -0/+2Thank you very much.
- SuicideMouse, on 12/26/2008, -0/+2Even if someone spams something I think would be interesting or worth checking out, I can't bring myself to fall for their *****. If it's about a topic, I'll google it, if it's a website, ***** it.
- SierraEcho, on 12/26/2008, -1/+3Oh man! Without the /s I can't see if you're sarcastic!
