- craighoxton, on 09/26/2008, -6/+43Shh don't tell the Quebec Seperatists! Now they have another reason to think they're special.
- inactive, on 09/25/2008, -12/+48Did anyone tell Palin aboout this?
- inactive, on 09/26/2008, -6/+28We'll keep it up until Palin gives us a good reason to believe that she does not reject reality.
- iSnooze, on 09/26/2008, -2/+20Nah... that's just a peice of an old poutine :)
- 0livero, on 09/25/2008, -3/+20That rocks!
- vat0r, on 09/25/2008, -1/+12“There is a certain amount of healthy skepticism that needs to play a role here,” said Stephen J. Mojzsis, a professor of geological sciences at the University of Colorado. Dr. Mojzsis said the new research was well done, but that he thought these were younger sedimentary rocks, pressed together out of the remnants of earlier rocks that were indeed 4.28 billion years old.
“I hope that I’m wrong,” Dr. Mojzsis said. “If that happens, I believe there will be a land rush by geologists to northern Quebec.” - Vidalsassgirlie, on 09/26/2008, -1/+11No. Ever hear of plate tectonics or erosion? These things break down rocks constantly. New rocks are also created constantly.
I wish we had better education in America. This really is a grade school concept. - paperclips4u, on 09/26/2008, -1/+11LOL. First two repliers cried. ;_;
- petemcfraser, on 09/26/2008, -1/+10Quebec, Tabarnac Oui!!!
- jasoninoakland, on 09/26/2008, -2/+10"I can see Canada from my house!
But they made a typo with the age of the rocks...they're more like 4,280 years old." - Ajajadude, on 09/26/2008, -0/+8Matter may not be created or destroyed but the form it's in can be altered.
- cinder, on 09/26/2008, -2/+9That's gneiss. Ugh, I can't believe I just did that. As a geologist, I hate geology puns. :(
- statuescrumble, on 09/26/2008, -0/+7That was so unnecessary
- shawnanigans, on 09/26/2008, -0/+6You mean their 2 referenda? Where the last was lost by a margin of .6%?
- DforSpiD, on 09/26/2008, -0/+6is "rock" a type of matter?
- inactive, on 09/26/2008, -0/+5Yes, it does. We can't tell you how old the molecules themselves are (the matter at its most fundamental level), but we can tell you how long the molecules have been in that specific configuration (the matter as the rock). The age of the rocks is the same as the length of time that the molecules composing the rock have been arranged in their particular configuration.
- emjaymj, on 09/26/2008, -0/+5Most Quebecers, especially in the cities, are pretty bilingual. I feel like an absolute idiot every time I visit somewhere where it's normal to know more than just one language. And here in Ontario we somehow have 9 years of mandatory French classes, but I'll be damned if more than a handful graduate high school knowing the language well enough to speak it.
- AROZ, on 09/26/2008, -0/+5I disagree with your baseless comment. The historical province is entrenched in Canadian history.
- roijen, on 09/26/2008, -1/+6If they look really closely they you may find the english translation. It will be smaller and below.
I know, it is a weird natural phenomenon. - santaliqueur, on 09/26/2008, -0/+5Whoa, you a geologist? You sound like you really know your *****.
- bouche, on 09/26/2008, -0/+5Quebec does rock. They invented POUTINE!
- inactive, on 09/26/2008, -2/+6We're rejecting Palin and her alternative reality.
- Schmidtopolis, on 09/26/2008, -2/+6Heh, between this, and them thinking the first game of Hockey was played in Laval, they're gonna be talking ***** for years now.
- samimnot, on 09/26/2008, -1/+5"At present, the oldest dated rocks are in the Canadian Northwest, at 4.03 billion years old. Geologists have also found older bits of the earth: tiny, zircon crystals as old as 4.36 billion years old, embedded within Sen. McCain's Kidney stones. This finding has caused much conflict within the GOP (considering that V.P. hopeful, Sarah Palin) has stated the age of the earth is less than 4000 years".
Sorry ;-) I couldn't resist a bit of sarcasm... - Virgule, on 09/26/2008, -1/+5***** la *****!
- degree, on 09/26/2008, -2/+5geology puns are HARD to ***** up
yet i just did..... - hankyone, on 09/26/2008, -1/+4Quebec does not suck, Montreal do rock (no pun..)
Thank You, Bye - smacksaw, on 09/26/2008, -0/+3Laval?
Strange, I always thought McGill WAS IN DOWNTOWN MONTREAL!!! - redscofield, on 09/26/2008, -0/+3those French Canadians are a puzzling bunch to me...
- Ajajadude, on 09/26/2008, -0/+3I don't remember learning that in grade school. Junior high, high school and college science classes is where I remember it from.
How can anyone not remember something like plate tectonics and/or not remember seeing a picture of Pangea? - brownsound00, on 09/26/2008, -1/+3hey, that's a legit question. now need to belittle the asker... not everyone remembers everything they learned in grade school
- hankyone, on 09/26/2008, -1/+3Caliss D'esti! :p
- Croaton, on 09/26/2008, -3/+5You'r confusing matter with energy. Energy can neither be created or destroyed...
Matter is created and destroyed constantly... - datastorageguy, on 09/26/2008, -0/+2It isn't destroyed, they are converted.
- HomeNucleonics, on 09/26/2008, -4/+6Buried, the earth was created 6000 years ago. Who in God's name are these dumb atheist scientist nerds trying to fool?
- dafragsta, on 09/26/2008, -2/+4So you're saying the Earth is French Canadian?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TncdhLGjFTE - Jeffler, on 09/26/2008, -0/+2Breaking News: Turns out the rock was actually the 2008 Colorado Avalanche, which is filled with a bunch of previous Avs and Quebec Nordiques
- StultusJuventus, on 09/26/2008, -0/+2Why exactly would more scientists working on a complex issue be a bad thing?
- rainierbeer, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1Geology FTW!
- aldebaran, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1And why is that?
- primalsteel, on 10/08/2008, -0/+1Quebec Rocks Period!!!
- asdf2000, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1Rocks were first formed on the outermost part of the earth?
- whatuser, on 09/26/2008, -1/+2your comment could be taken either way. for discussion sake I think it warrants some clarification. A large contingency of Christians, including many pastors, ministers, priests and world renown Christian authors will argue that the world is indeed millions of years 'young'. What is one of God's days? Read the Bible and you will see several references that a day in God's time is not 24 hours.
- Taiyoryu, on 09/26/2008, -1/+2I'm partial to B.C.
- pauls88, on 09/26/2008, -1/+2this is VERY exciting news....
- StultusJuventus, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1or believes it... oh those silly creationists
- smacksaw, on 09/26/2008, -2/+2And British North America is entrenched in US history. Faulty logic there. I mean, you might as well give Canada back to the aboriginal tribes if you think that way.
Canada is an interesting blip in Native American history. - inajeep, on 09/26/2008, -1/+1It's utterly amazing how flexible the Bible and those who believe in it are sometimes.
