Pictures of an eagle taking on a fox
darrennaish.blogspot.com — the Golden eagle Aquila chrysaetos, are able to attack and kill mammals substantially bigger than they are. Some will attack and kill deer (including reindeer, roe deer and white-tailed deer) and pronghorn, and there are ridiculous, authenticated cases where Golden eagles have killed domestic calves exceeding 100 kg in weight.

- Junkyarddawg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20Foxes *don't* weigh 30 kilos. Most of them weigh in at less than 5 kilos, a few extremely fat foxes (e.g. one which had been gorging itself on pig swill for an entire winter) reach 12 kilos. They're really just slightly heavier than domestic cats; they just look bigger due to their thick fur.
And yes, Golden Eagles, and their lager relatives the Sea Eagles, do kill and eat foxes on a regular basis.- CaseyUCF, on 10/12/2007, -10/+25 kilos? that's about 12 pounds, and that's one hell of a small fox.
- kooft, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19"and their lager relatives"
You mean like drunk in-laws? - Junkyarddawg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7@caseyucf: No, 5 kilos is actually a fair sized fox. They're much smaller than one'd think, really about the same weight as house cats.
- quiltmaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It didnt say 30kg fox is said "30 kg wolf"

- Screwy1138, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Very interesting article as well as pictures. The bit about eagles being trained to hunt wolves was neat.
- drizek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They do that in china too. I dont think they go after things this large, but they do go hunting for geese and ducks with hawks.
- brotherfranciz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Pffft, hunters throwing 'china' at geese and ducks... that's the first time I heard of such a method...
- mumblingmynah, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1nvm

- sancho320, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Wow! that's crazy!
- Rhine23, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5That eagle has balls...
- MasterChi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Not really, eagles are huge(7 foot wingspan) and powerful and have really sharp claws. Why do you think trainers were those thick gloves just to hold the bird? If that thing grabbed your skin with its claws you won't be able to get it off and it can take its time pecking you with its sharp beak till your down and out so I am not surprised the fox went down.

Saddest look ever.
That eagle is mean.- Roger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Heh, you're right.
(Came back just to digg your comment) - jgreene777, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5actually, the eagle is apologizing to the fox for the fact that the fox is going to die because he's REALLY hungry and the wife and kids back at the nest are starving...
- Roger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Heh, you're right.

- Biznar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The quick brown fox is attacked by the Golden Eagle
- Brodels, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The order of photos on that website is kinda misleading with regards to the chain of events. The order from the site below seems to explain it better... unless the Red fox (vulpes vulpes) naturally walks around on its front legs.

- TeddyRoosevelt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Does anyone have any pictures or video of an eagle taking out a kangaroo?
- cybersnafu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Stephen Jr. is kicking ass and taking names! BOOYA!
- saegiru, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Well WTF. I posted this 4 days ago, and no one dugg me. I guess my "Fox gets pwned by Golden Eagle" title was too lame to warrant checking out. /sigh
- madchemst, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Where's the big surprise here exactly? The Eagle can retreat back up into the air and swoop down at any moment on top of the fox. They both have approximately the same weight and the Fox has no advantage unless the bird is beneath or in front of him.
Let me know when you see an Eagle take on something of substantial mass and I'll be really impressed. - orbit1979, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That was a big f*cking bird! If it came at me I am not ashamed to say that I would run out terror of my eyes being plucked out or some ***** like that.
I digg it. - mookieXL, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hmmm, Looks like the fox needs EagleBlock extension.
