- thirdman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+37There are a number of countries that still hunt whales either for food or for "scientific research"
Canada
Grenada
Dominica
Faroe Islands
Greenland
Iceland
Indonesia
Japan
Norway
Russia
Saint Lucia
United States - jgrgg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19thats nothing
you should see a life size picture of my mother-in-law - Yoshi39, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19Nope Iceland does it as well
- blapierre, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16The only way this could be life size is if they know my screen resolution and physical size.
- theOster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11i dont know...until this, i didn't realize how boring it was to look at a blue whale
- Styleboost, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Whale meat tastes nasty. Like a dead cow marinated in fish oil.
- offput, on 10/12/2007, -17/+27Japs is only a racial slur when referring to Japanese people. If you're talking with your Jewish friend and they say their girlfriend is "such a JAP" realize they mean Jewish American Princess... I thought the guy was racist for like a week....
- crashflow, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11wow, that would feed a lot of people...
i mean, hypothetically. killing whales is bad. - Spikito, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12i dunno how to do the digg mirror thing, but someone should do it
- Szandor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Getting your science from bad comedians, I see.
- bibbles, on 10/12/2007, -14/+22Alaska isn't really part of America... We just own you. ;)
digg for the lulz - AntiHiro, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8@minipri: I agree with you that the hunting of whales is a disgusting practice, and that the Japanese government has done shamefully little to curtail the practice. However, using the word "Jap" is an indictment on an entire ethnicity. There are people like myself who resent both these offenses.
- minipri, on 10/12/2007, -7/+13@boombye
Yeah, ...because what the "Japs" do to the whale's (and Dolphins for that matter) is nothing compared to calling the Japanese people "Japs" ...Think again my friend!

Don't want to spam but some things just need to be said. Again, and again, and again...etc. - theskunkworks, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8America hunts and eat whales too. At least the natives here in AK do. I'm part Aleut, but i'll never try that *****.
- jackhole, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Whoever submitted this to digg... you have a sick sense of humor my friend. You should go into hiding before the WDCS finds out where you live.
- glenfiddich, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7the funny thing is that less than 5% of Japanese people even entertain the idea of eating whale meat.
- arnar, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12I know I'm going to be dugg down, but controlled whale hunting is no different from other hunting. I'm from Iceland, which just started whaling again after many years when it was forbidden.
The whaling is highly controlled, just like other fishing. We are not hunting endangered species and this helps maintain the population of of certain kinds of fish which we need to support our economy. - anagoge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Very impressive and great use of new technology to get people more interested in a topic that a lot of people wouldn't be interested in otherwise.
- Ngai, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7An idea of what it looks like... and a mirror.
http://img86.imageshack.us/img86/3267/giantwhaleiv4.png - Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Canada stopped whaling in 1982... the only people in Canada still involved with whaling are a few groups of Inuit people... I've never seen whale meat ever throughout my life.
BC does the vast majority of scientific study on whales and it, as far as I know, is all live research. Any dead whales used for science either died in captivity or were found dead. - ogsd89, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'm pretty sure it wasn't the right size due to them not knowing my resolution, but it's the first time in a while that I've wanted to touch my monitor and expect to kinda feel something. :)
- senortaco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Anyone ever been to the Museum of Natural History in NYC? They have (or had the last time I was there) a life-size blue whale hanging from the ceiling. Freaking huge! It takes up the entire room. Hard to imagine that any living thing is that big. And for anyone thinking about making a penis joke out of that last sentence - do us all a favor and breathe deeply ten times and press the back button.

- OwdenBowden, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I am all for saving the whales.... I think that in order to help them out we should start targeting the French.
- shinynew, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1650 diggs and its up for me.

You have truly taught me a lesson and given me some "education." Thanks to your bulletproof logic I can assume that since you are from--Location: Birmingham Alabama--that you are racist (check), stupid (seemingly check), and like to have sex with your sister/female cousin (check?).
have a nice day, *****. - minipri, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@antihiro
Off course you are right. No doubt about it!
Although, I do NOT have ANY respect for people who can slaughter ANY animal like that... > see my links
I do not feel "connected" as a human, to those kind at all. They can rot in hell for all I care.
Sounds a little hard? I do agree, but that's the way I feel about it. - Szandor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Even sweeter, a life-size GW sub:
http://www.vanaqua.org/aquanew/fullnews.php?id=1845 - volchonok, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yup. Been lucky enough to try some, too - nothing like chicken-fried whale!
Seriously, nothing like it. At all. Taste is... not bad, but a little strange, texture a little tough. Blood is so dense, it looks black unless you dilute it in water.
Gift from one of the hunting parties north of Sand Point. But walrus was better. And fur seal even tastier. Just stay away from the seal oil (seriously, it's a great source of energy, but it'll give you a heart attack). - DurkaMcDurk, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3sorry to comment abuse... but here's a working mirror as of right now...
http://www.wdcs.co.uk.nyud.net:8080/media/flash/whalebanner/content_pub_en.html - CrazyBot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I can call them Japs if I want
History lesson for everyone on Digg

That would be awesome!! or even just downloading all the files so you can look at it on your comp rather than over the web so you can share it with others quicker!
