- forger, on 10/12/2007, -2/+36I bet we'll see some linux fans in the comments :)
- dangson, on 10/12/2007, -3/+26Umm, the earth is 4.5 billion years old.
- joebus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18So in other-words berean, you pretty much just pulled it out of your ass. We can't believe what you said is true until we see that you either got them from a scientific place or you, yourself is a scientist that has solved these yourself.
- Tycho7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Well my friend, you don't seem very open-minded yourself. And Christians can hang out here whenever they want, just not the ones who post unsupported garbage like yours. We are called intellectuals, not Christian-haters.
- RandomNed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14berean, sources please?
- dontbejack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12The whole point is that there were penguins around when the dinosaurs were killed. We didn't know that.
- EBFoxbat, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14Almost all of your arguments can be discredited with common sense.
Example: "Niagara Falls is calculated to be only as old as 5 to 10 thousand years old, based on the weathering of its edge." So because Niagara Falls is only 5-10 thousand years old, the Earth can't be 4.5 billion?
Example: "Sharp cliffs and unlevel continents testify to a young earth age." Who knew the Earth wasn't dynamic? Apparently there is no new creation of sharp cliffs.
You are a fool. There is recorded human history older than the age you make the Earth out to be. Urg, fool.
I should all mod me down for flaming but rest assured, I am holding back so, so much. - JayRod, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12If a big meteor hit the earth back then. That would create a big thick dust cloud that would cover the whole earth. That would block heat from the sun and the result would be the ice age. Penguins live in the cold and are already use to it. Maybe that's why they survived.
- fluxion, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12i missed the part where >evidence< was actually posted. you're delusional if you think you can change the world with a list of random factoids without sources. the fact that you completely ignored a point-by-point counterargument to your claims, WITH SOURCES, and instead resorted to calling us close-minded, makes you the one who is close-minded.
- Mousse, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Here is a full list of responses to your claims (and more) for you to browse, complete with sources: http://www.talkorigins.org/indexcc/list.html
Happy reading :) - fluxion, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11wow berean. how bout instead of reposting the same bs you actually take the time to read the refutation posted by Mousse? were you not expecting someone to actually take you up on your request for credible sources stating otherwise? perhaps you would not be censured if you weren't blatantly spewing bs. right, you probably still would've be censured for such wild claims, but at least you could have made an effort not to come across as a douche.
- fluxion, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10correction:
in response to mousse's link you posted a link to a website you assumed had credible responses, but most of it is just a repost of what you said earlier, ignoring the counter-arguments. for example, they have this huge article on niagara falls being fairly young in age, but fail to mention that the age of niagara falls has nothing to do with the age of the earth, and has been generally accepted by scientists of all theologies to be around 10k. you also posted a fact with claims the moon is about 50k years old, which refutes the creationist claim as much as it does the evolutionist one - RandomNed, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Well, things are made to appear older by His Noodly Appendage.
- MrPens, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Who dosen't like penguins. Even though they can't fly they are still really cool.
- Zaster, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Berean -- There have been alot of exciting discoveries since archaeopteryx suggesting a transition from theropods to birds. The most important ones come from Liaoning, China and include many feathered forms.
- fearlessfrog, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12
I think berean's sources are his faith.
I am ok with people having a faith, as deluded and sad as it seems to me, and would fight for their rights for free speech and way of life.
But why do they have to take on science with all this *****? Why can't they just leave the ***** alone, go back to fiddling with His Noodly Appendage or whatever, and just get on with it.
Religion is a mental virus, and it targets the weak mind. It preys on people who have a need for an abdication of their own moral responsibility. For every good deed there seems to be an equal amount of nutballs ready to roll back the karma and 'spread the word'. Sigh. - fearlessfrog, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Hey, he just casted his pearls on my shoe! Who's gonna clean that up...
- Bonzodog, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12Microsoft is the dinosaur in this one....the penguin will live on!!!
- drizek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Its actually the opposite. Extinction happens from the top down on the food chain.
- Zaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Very interesting stuff. But with bird-like features already well-established in early Cretaceous critters like Microraptor, I guess it isn't that surprising to learn that anatomically modern birds were around by the time of the dinosaurs' demise some 70 million years later.
- Aooogah, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7The penguins are the inheritors of the earth. All kneel before the penguin.
- illynova, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7There are humans around now, and no T-Rexs.
Does that mean that some humans survived when T-Rex didn't? Think before you speak. - listentothis, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Humans didn't exist when dinosaurs were around. You watch too many cartoons.
- yukevster, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9About Berean...
It's pretty clear to most of us he's a confused young man. His faith his holding his heart, and screaming in his ear, "Jesus saved me! I believe in God, I must keep my FAITH!- but his logical brain is whispering, "dude, you know, the science is making more and more sense to me, what am I gonna do?!".
Can you imagine how torturous that would feel - to be so confused like that?
Have a heart for a dedicated Digger like Berean - Just think about that a bit ...... - chad78, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Ok berean. I wasn't attacking you. I was just giving people some links so they can find out more about the subject. The fact that you do your own research is great - (kinda think that's where you took your name, right?) - but just spouting off "facts" or your personal findings doesn't help others explore the evidence for themselves.
Giving people a starting place is better than saying "Your beliefs about the world are wrong. Here's why. Believe me because I figured it out for myself."
I mean, the whole thing with the Bereans is that they searched out the truth for themselves to see if what they were told is true. Right? So give people a place to start to do that. That's what I was doing. Finding sites that promote evolution isn't that difficult. Finding sites that promote creation is a little bit tougher. The sites I listed are among the more professional looking ones I found. Although "Dr. Dino" isn't the best sounding website address.
People have to make up their own minds. Exposing people to information on both sides is helpful for them to do that.
BTW, the Bible goes back more than 3000 years - so how do you get that number? - PicklePower, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6No, I just don't think he knows how to disprove these theories correctly. Take note that he does not represent the entire Christian population. We are not all like that.
- dannylewis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4EnricoFermi: Scientists more favor the asteroid theory because above the Yucatan Peninsula is the crater where it hit and all the geological data around the world seems to confirm it.
Anyway, I guess it makes sense... It isn't like penguins are going to freeze to death or something. - dstrek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5God uses windows, explains a lot really.
- Drahknon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Pause for unscientific strawman incredulity from the masses...
- kozmo, on 10/12/2007, -8/+11When Windows becomes extinct, and it will, Linux will live on just like the penguin it exemplifies.
- kamisama, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Wasn't there a theory about the oxygen levels on earth that got a big hit with the ice-age? That had as result that a lot of the big species died and only smaller ones could survive? If you assume for a second this is true it's not at all that surprising that penguins would outlive dinosaurs. Think i heard about this on some national geographic documentary about dinosaurs. Anyway it was just a thought.
- oboreruhito, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3BEREAN!!!!!
If he had a penny for every negative digg he's gotten in evolution/creationism threads, he'd be a billionaire - diggtard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4windows --> BSOD
linux 65 million years and counting - chad78, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Berean, I understand that you are upset about being modded down - but yelling at people and expecting them to blindly believe your claims is more like taking a crap on your pearl and then wondering why no one picks it up. You are expecting people to completely give up everything they've believed and been taught their whole lives just because you told them it's wrong. I don't think the original Bereans would agree with that. Heck - they were fact-checking the Apostle Paul - not just some guy on a comment thread. Give people a break. And give people a chance to "search ...to see if those things are true".
- Aelbric, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Actually, I find it ironic that you berate the open-mindedness of the posters here while at the same time fanatically defending your beliefs without question. I think most people who have a religious belief system can reconcile what the evidence suggests. All religious scriptures were written by men in an attempt to explain their understanding at a time when science was very limited. That doesn't mean that they were entirely wrong, just not completely informed.
There's a principle in science called Occam's Razor. It basically means that one should not increase, beyond what is necessary, the number of entities required to explain anything. Since most scientific observation suggests that the Earth is 4.5 billion years old, I can accept that. It doesn't mean that God didn't create it all. It only means that the authors of most religious texts didn't have the capacity to observe what we can today.
Who knows what we'll know tomorrow. - brentcore, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I totally thought it was a metaphor for linux and windows
- kotatsu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Why is now whenever someone posts something about factual history it brings out all the ludites/religious retards who go on about how history is wrong and everyone should believe what was written in a novel a thousand years ago.
It's getting really, really, REALLY ***** TIRING. Just piss off back to bible class and burn some witches you inbred little morons.
Ah, I feel better now. - loup, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4It's probably not about luck, there was something about those ancient penguins that made them more fit to survive whatever the catastrophe was than the dinosaurs, big and strong doesn't mean most likely to survive.
- reaver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If penguins can survive in Antarctica, they can survive anything. They're truly amazing animals.
Oh and if you haven't seen March of the Penguins, go watch it. Great movie. - xombiefarts, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3these little guys can survive almost anything thrown at them, if you have watched march of the penguins you know what im talking about. poor little guys.
- EnricoFermi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Didn't modern day birds supposedly evolve from dinosaurs?
- Deusiah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"wroten" lol
- Zaster, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5fd10801, if you are interested in knowing more about how scientists determine the age of the earth, may I suggest the TalkOrigins archive? Here is a link to their many articles on that very subject:
http://www.talkorigins.org/origins/faqs-youngearth.html - NghtShd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@aaarg "wtf......i am dumber from having read this"
You're even dumberer from having wroten that. - FuManchu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This post is about PENGUINS, not Christianity, or Creationism, or any such ideological BS.
What I WANT TO KNOW is whether penguins LIKE or RESENT the identification they've been given with LINUX!!!
After all, it could be that the dinosaurs did something equally stupid to piss them off and. . . [poof]
I run Linux, BUT I don't want to be next on their list. . . - regedit2D, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2what exactly are the basis of those ideas? The only point of reference we have for how a planet should behave is our own because it is uniqe in this solar system.
- RobotCitizen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Science demystifies. A lot of people are comforted by a mystical world. That's a conflict waiting to happen.
- theuber1337, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Zag anything you say is irrelivant if you show your ignorance by using "Micro$oft with a dollar sign lolzers"
- Deusiah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Linux survived when Microsoft died. Now there are many theories on the cause of the extinction of dinosaurs, but for sake of this argument lets take the meteor blocking the Sun as being the cause for the demise of the dinosaurs.
All we need to do is take Sun Microsystems out of the picture and we can kill of Microsoft! - Tycho7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No no, the dinosaurs only represent Microsoft Office. It would take a lot to kill Microsoft. But taking out Sun Microsystems would do it. Both literally and figuratively.
