PETA goes crazy: Your Daddy Kills Animals

fishinghurts.com — PETA just found that fish "feel pain," so they started this hilarious campaign telling kids to keep pets away from Dad because he's "hooked on killing defenseless animals." Be sure to click on the "View a larger image of the leaflet" button at the bottom.

  • zediker, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Fish feel pain, right, and you can prove this how PETA? Did the fish tell you it feels pain? Even if it does, does it have enough intelligence to understand and feel pain as we do? Pain is an emotion and though a primitive emotion requires intelligence to fully comprehend aka the difference between a severed limb's pain and stubbing your toe. How intense is their pain if it does exist? Is it a sore throb or a torrent of aggony?

    I will go with option C and say they are just making this up to fit their corporate agenda (I believe they are a corporation just like Greenpeace)

    They're not a corporation like Sony. Either you buy into their ethos or not. No harm, no foul (or fowl).

    Why do people choose a "cause" and fight and fight and fight until well after it becomes apparent that they are wrong, and long after they lose all credibility?

  • geuis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah fish feel pain. Sometimes PETA is on the right track, to prevent undue cruelty to animals and such. They've done a lot of good work in raising the care of farm animals and zoo animals too.

    However, if this is real its ridiculous. Even when you're on the right side, propaganda pieces like this do absolutely nothing for your cause. Boo PETA.

    I will briefly summarize their logic.

    PETA: Cannot hurt animals -> animals are life -> all life is equal -> Don't kill animals because that is like killing human life.

    HOWEVER!!!

    Plants = Life = Foodsource

    Get over it, if you respect all life then respect plants just as much as you would animals, and basically starve and die. All life is equal, but face it survival is the greatest human instinct, and we've become an adapted society that eats meat and plants alike. We will kill animals no matter how cute or fuzzy and we will eat vegetables no matter how green or orange.
  • mcgillicutty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Agreed, when PETA rely on sketchy science they're not at their best but I don't agree that it's ego-massaging to pick a relatively well-defined organization/cause and run with it (open-source software, anti-DRM, whatever). of course, there should be some follow-up self-education to avoid becoming dogmatic and think all the issues through.

    Also, does PETA go after wolves when they hunt deer? Wolves are animals, people are animals, deer are animals. Yet one can kill a deer and the other can't. Now is that fair?

      And I wonder what they'd say if they knew baleen whales — supposedly "gentle vegetarians" — eat small fish? As in, swallowed whole and alive, digested to death?
      If a dog is a rat is a pig is a boy, then how come the dog, the rat and the pig can hunt and they boy can't?

    When one of those robot vacuum cleaners hits the leg of a chair, it backs away, does it feel pain?
    PETA is mistaking a biological mechanism for an emotion, and think's that it is all the more superior for doing so.
    I'm off to fetch my pitchfork and march on the PETA HQ (which is probably a Volkswagon Campervan somewhere. hoho)
  • Tracon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5i hunt turkey every year and the lady/PETA nutjob next door to my land is always out trying to spoke the turkeys away from me. and i just laugh because every year she drives them right at me and i cant stop laughing cause it works great for deer too.
    BTW most fish can repair damage to there mouths within hours and can actualy digest hooks very easly. The fact is most hunters and fisherman know more about the animals they hunt than the people trying to stop them.

    Bellow your screams elsewhere like at governments that starve humans, or held back medicines for Africa.

PETA is not just about vegetarianism, but is also about stopping the cruelty to animals in lab testing, slaughter houses, etc. Unfortunately there are still too many rednecks out there that think that looking at everything PETA has to say is somehow a threat to their manliness.

    Quite a few of you should do a bit of research before just spewing nonsensical flame garbage and making yourselves look like fools.
