- fasda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+104god I wish there were pics I've never see a bald porcupine.
- randomvictim, on 10/12/2007, -1/+75@Rorrim
Have you ever tried to stop a pit bull from attacking another animal? I think not. - karbonx, on 10/12/2007, -3/+70you should see the porcupine........
- dunezone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+53And here is the Snopes article on it
http://www.snopes.com/photos/animals/porcupinedog.asp - wingnut21, on 10/12/2007, -5/+58I find it funny that you'll see a story posted about a human dieing in a stupid manner, and people will post "LOL DARWIN AWARD!! HE DESRVED IT!!!!"
Then, when a dog, obviously as dumb as a rock doesn't get the message, people feel incredible sorry for it. What, you'd rather see an innocent porcupine get chomped to bits for no reason? The dog asked for every single needle in its face.
(Disclaimer, I'm not saying you specifically would laugh at Darwin award recipients... I'm just addressing the people that would. Also, I'm a dog lover.) - floridiot2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+46What's the difference between a BMW and a porcupine?
Porcupine's have pricks on the outside.
:> - wobitnobby, on 10/12/2007, -1/+43Poor sweetie. I worked in a veterinary ER for a year and several times helped to pluck quills after an altercation like this... the sad thing seems to be that the dogs don't learn, and a dog once quilled will often chase another porcupine. The thought was that maybe the quills don't hurt much until several minutes later and so they don't connect it?
The only thing to do was to sedate the dog, gather as many techs as you can, and get going with blunt forceps to pull them out. If he didn't get a quill in the eye, he may be in more danger from the quills in the shoulder area. At the microscopic scale, they are scaled and rough in one direction, smooth in the other - so they will work their way deeper and deeper, disappearing into the flesh. If they are missed in the first cleanup they may be later found to pierce the heart or cause pockets of infection before coming out the other side! - RoroCo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+40In other news. There is a completely bald...seriously freaked out...porcupine running around in my back yard. He kinda looks like a opossum with a serious case of acne.

Wow, reeaaal humorous.. not. I feel bad for that dog. - MightyGiant, on 10/12/2007, -1/+34Woah... is this a Dog vs. Cat flame war about to start?
- RoroCo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+30You do realize that the pictures are taken in a vet office...
- kelbear, on 10/12/2007, -2/+29Dogs are easier to sympathize with than humans. They're generally assumed to be a product of their environment, while humans are assumed to have responsibility for their actions. The result is that humans have the potential of being considered evil, and dogs are always assumed innocent.
- versionke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23the pictures were taken by the vet before they began removing them.
- MarkCiccone, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25Oh man that poor dog, what a horrible job for the vet!!!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23Didn't you know, CS3 has a "stuck my face in a porcupine a dozen ***** times" filter?
- kingfoot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17I thought it was a pic of the porcupine at first, until I realized there was a dog under all them needles.
- pintomp3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16looks like a porcupine with the body of a dog.
- dantidote, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18haha yeah, Chance got pwned by the porcupine then they ended up in some dog hispital, but of course they all broke out. When we were waiting to get cable TV installed, this was one of the very few movies we had. Watched it over and over...
- lostboy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18gotta agree with randomvictim. However this is an English Bull Terrier not a pit bull.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bull_Terrier
I've had one, and they aren't necessarily dangerous animals if raised properly, however they are unstoppable machines of terrifying inertia. Seriously, once they get going they do not stop. If you need to get any kind of Terrier, be it staff, pitbull or English bull terrier off something like another dog try drowning it. Pour water down it's throat if you can, that's about the only thing that will make it stop once it locks it's jaw. Or sticking your finger up it's ass (seriously), but few people are gonna choose that one are they.
They look like sharks from the side, with their bizarre heads, but are awesome animals. The only dog I like more are staffordshire bull terriers. - G-RaZoR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Anybody have pics of the dog after the needles were removed?
- dkm201, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Typical dog fanboys
- manifestdata, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Actually the stupidest thing you have done was posting that meaningless comment.
- jcaino, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10that dog is damn lucky it didnt lose an eye
- LonesomeFighter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10How the hell do they take them out? Pull? wow, i feel bad for that dog. But seriously, after the first thing getting stuck in face, the dog should have run away.
- nixr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Please tell me that dog's name is Spike.
Poor fella. - Berkana, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11If this was Photoshoped, I want to know who, 'cause if it is a Photoshop job, that's the most realistic and difficult Photoshop job I have ever seen.
- EtherGnat, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10@metalgod79
If this story is lame why did you digg it you idiot? Let's take a look at what else you've dugg:
* A false story about the Wii
* A spoof story about the Wii
* Pictures of Miss Nevada kissing another girl
* A history of a video game
* A dead Munster
Real classy stuff there, Einstein. - baalzebub, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Stupid Dog!!! - Eustace Bagge
- cgruber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Growing up in northern Wisconsin I've had many dogs tangle with a porcupine. Although they all stopped after getting hit once, still leaves about 30 quills in them. Bloody mess when you remove them.
- MuTeD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6He'll be fine.
- Dundasbro, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7We generally hold humans to have more sense than a dog. If a dog tries to attack another animal and gets hammered then we can blame it on instinct. If a human starts wondering what would happen if he used a defribulater on himself then does it generally we are gonna think he's a ***** idiot.
- AriaStar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Bull terrier, not a pit. I worked at an animal hospital and we had a dog come in that had about two dozen quills. All I've got to say is that I couldn't stay in the building when they were being pulled. The yelping made me sick to my stomach. The dog in these photos I hope was sedated. She'll be lucky if she wasn't blinded.
And before anyone goes off saying she attacked the porcupine, more likely she went up and sniffed it, and it felt threatened and attacked her, and she fought back. - haveacigar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6A porcupine attacking a dog... sounds a little ridiculous dont you think?
- manifestdata, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I'm sure that means a lot to him coming from a guy named metalgod79.
- Brutis1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5That's not a pit bull. It's a Bull Terrier.
- EtherGnat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Congratulations. Want a cookie?
- sanman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Frankly, I don't like any breed of dog that's bred for aggression. That makes them a ticking time-bomb, because their behavior is genetically selected for aggression. So let's cut the crap about "ohh, mine's so nice, and they're unfairly vilified."
Animals can't defy their genes. Hell, even humans have a hard time -- just ask families of alcoholics. But if an animal is deliberately bred for aggression and blood-lust, it's a severe risk. Ask Siegfield & Roy, after their Vegas tiger show got canceled due to that attack. - lostboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3nah i don't believe they can lock their jaws, i meant that more in the sense that it's ***** hard to get them to release when they've decided to bite something. On one occasion my bull terrier - now dead ;( - was attacked by Labrador. He didn't want a fight but didn't really have a choice and ended up with his jaw wrapped around the other dogs throat. We happened to be in someone's back garden so we used a hose which we squirted down my dogs throat. He definitely wasn't keen on that and let go.
- aboyd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3According to snopes, it originated from a May 2005 incident. So only about 20 months old, not several years. Still, not exactly new. First time I've seen it, though.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Imagine your even more serious pain if you were an English Bull Terrier owner! You dodged a bullet there champ!
- Managore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The dog's a girl
- fowleryo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3it was mentioned on the site, and other places, but it really tells you something about the breed to see how far the animal went without stopping.
really sad. - tomvale13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2As an owner of a Pure Bred Miniature Bull Terrier I can say that these dogs are amongst the most loyal, unique and character-filled animals a man could own.
My little fat man is just over 1 year old now and Is the friendliest most adorable little fella but yeah, when he see's food just try and stop him..
Wonderful animals, As for staffy's: they're a dime a dozen. Get a Bully. :) - transeunte, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2> Am I the only person deeply disturbed by this picture?
prolly - ricksite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2manifestdata, I agree that the breed of the dog isn't important but the headline says that it is a pit bull. Pit bulls are always made out to be evil, child killing, grandmother mauling, fear no evil dogs. Many towns are enacting laws to ban pit bulls. This is ***** because most of what people believe about them isn't true. Pit bulls are not inherently bad dogs and they often get marks against them for things other breeds do. Check out this site with pictures of dogs mistaken as Pit bulls. http://www.pitbullsontheweb.com/petbull/findpit.html
- iDiggIt42, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3ok then i'll jest digg you down instead of flagging you down cause you know the fact's are alwayz right.
- NikoKun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2that dog had to be pretty stupid to keep going after the porcupine even after the first few spikes... i mean seriously... he had to have been continuously attacking it to get THAT many in its face and front body... @_@
Porcupines dont shoot their spines, and they only get stuck in u if u have contact with the animal... so that dog really has to be agressive to have that happen to him... and really stupid to not stop after the first lesson from the first spine attack... -_-
I hope he lived through that... and I hope he learned from it... XD and yes, dogs can learn lessons... @_@ but man... what a foulish dog XD - bromac, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3What a bitch.
- slaystench, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Stay away from Porcupines, kids.
