- kelsosmythe, on 09/26/2008, -1/+69But can it heal my broken heart?
Can you do that Japan??? - senae, on 09/26/2008, -0/+35You don't live on the ocean or in an area that has a winter, do you?
Paint doesn't just look pretty, it protects your car from rust. - WriterSD, on 09/26/2008, -1/+26Now *that* is cool.
- degree, on 09/26/2008, -6/+16I never understood why scratches were such a big deal. So long as someone didn't key a ***** into your door, they're not too noticeable.
- samoan27, on 09/26/2008, -1/+11Anyone with a politically themed bumper sticker has had their prayers answered.
- browwiw, on 09/26/2008, -0/+10If they crack open your ribcage and paint your heart, sure they can.
- litkaj, on 09/26/2008, -1/+10Actually, it's supposed to be used on the 2009 Infiniti G37 Sedan.
- wireframework, on 09/26/2008, -0/+8Here in the Northeast, if there is even a single millimeter of exposed metal when winter comes, the salt from the roads will essentially eat that entire panel of your car right off the frame. On one hand it's a pain in the ass, but on the other, it's kinda neat to actually watch rust spread at a visible rate, like bamboo growing.
This self-healing paint would be a godsend in the great frozen Adirondacks, particularly if I can get my 2007 Civic repainted with it.
(I know that my car is mostly fiberglass composite, but the hood, roof and other parts are definitely still metal.) - inactive, on 09/26/2008, -0/+7This technology is already available on Infiniti EX cars. Kind of old news isn't it?
- ryusen, on 09/26/2008, -0/+6some car owners, just like to have nice cars. for us it's a big deal. it also affects resale values of the car. and of course the rust issue cited above.
- Agracuta, on 09/26/2008, -1/+7Heart that can heal itself! BRILLIANT! Get to work japan!
- leerayIG88, on 09/26/2008, -0/+5This is better than a ball of batteries "organism".
- wireframework, on 09/26/2008, -1/+5An article from 2005? Damn. I hope this paint survives its Japanese trial and heads for the US soon.
- laplie, on 09/26/2008, -3/+7I don't get even go into spaces where I "just" fit anymore. Cause while I can get out and in without hitting the cars around me, I find that other people are usually less skilled/careful than I am.
- Iamien, on 09/26/2008, -3/+7old news.
- McDuff, on 09/27/2008, -0/+4I remember this on digg 3 years ago... about the same time this artical is dated.... dec 2005!!! (not dugg)
- tymdautyt, on 09/26/2008, -0/+4Hentai heals your broken heart.
- johnmw, on 09/26/2008, -0/+3This is old tech. The latest stuff from Japan is wallpaper that makes you coffee.
- stuffradio, on 09/26/2008, -0/+3I need some of this paint on my next car!
- dhoang, on 09/26/2008, -0/+3Prototype for the T-1000?
- falstaff, on 09/26/2008, -0/+3"its makers claim that it will continue to work for about three years."
If you don't even keep your new cars for 3 years, 'resale value' isn't in your vocabulary anyway. - inactive, on 09/26/2008, -0/+3Another terrific invention from Cyberdyne Systems.
- hydroponik, on 09/26/2008, -0/+3They're already using this paint on the 09 Infinitis.
- jcaino, on 09/26/2008, -0/+3Actually, it has been advertised somewhat - I recall seeing pamphlets explaining the paint at my local Nissan dealership about 2 and a half years ago about this stuff.
- mareksoon, on 09/26/2008, -0/+3Well, I for one welcome our self-painting ... uh ... paint overlords.
- melcheae, on 09/27/2008, -0/+2wonder what chemicals are in that they we'll find out are deadly in five years
- dext3r, on 09/26/2008, -0/+2learn how to use the reply link and dont sign your posts like a gaywad.
thanks. - total1337ness, on 09/27/2008, -0/+2They have robots for that
- risc427, on 09/26/2008, -6/+8December 3rd, 2005???? Apparently this didn't take off very well considering it hasn't been advertised by Nissan here in the states or by any other manufacturer.
- SnuKs, on 09/26/2008, -1/+2Well of course it's from Japan.
- inactive, on 09/26/2008, -2/+3your mom is older than cars itself
- Dotcommer, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1linking a website irrelevant to the current submission is grounds for immediate bury.
- gideonstyle, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1That paint is not "new" it's been around for about 10 years. But it use to be too expensive to use in production, so you could only get it through custom paint companies.
- DarkProd, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1Taking acid and 92% alcohol does not help in any way, son.
- GetItBuilt, on 09/26/2008, -1/+2This is a great Digg. It's this type of tech, that once standard, will help everyone's life easier. I'd love to have this on my cars now. Or better yet, lets make it for the house. Inside and out. Then less work for me. I can think of all types of practical applications.
- darkNiGHTS, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1And why is that?
- sg7791, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1...Which is bad.
- Alstroph, on 09/26/2008, -1/+2Oh baby, rub it all over my body.
- sg7791, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1McPaint... Brilliant. But besides that. What the ***** were you going for?
- Zippo, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1Finally... this is all-too needed.
- Phalanxia, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1I will only be impressed if they make invisible paint that can do that.
- xxTazxx, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1They should use this as some form of armour, slice me and it'll protect me as well as heal itself. Body heat should make up for the speed of reaction issue!
- BadseedJR, on 09/26/2008, -2/+3* themselves
- brad3378, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1One of my biggest complaints about painting is that you need to do a really good job sanding out all the little scratches in the base material or else the paint will exaggerate the scratches and make them even more noticeable.
I think it would be really cool if they could invent a primer coat that would somehow seek and "pool up" in the scratches to create a more level surface. I bet you could save literally hours of labor time (potentially $hundreds) on some auto-body repair jobs if you could perfect this. - elister, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1its a joke dude, since i have had to point that out, i guess its not really funny.
- iguanapunk, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1I wait for the broken heart that can heal itself.
- CrimsonBlur, on 09/26/2008, -1/+2Obviously they have. Do you really think the scientists that invented this technology overlooked what would happen if a car sits in the sun or if someone touches it? Don't be silly.
