sciencedaily.com — Michigan State University plant scientists have discovered another piece of the genetic puzzle that controls how plants respond to high temperatures. That may allow plant breeders to create new varieties of crops that flourish in warmer, drier climates.

- RedViper1999, on 10/15/2008, -0/+1I worked on a gene like this in college for molecular biology for Arabidopsis thaliana. The HSBP1 (Heat shock binding protein) and INO80 genes I worked with are also involved in heat regulation.
- whoreable, on 10/14/2008, -0/+10The heat has been pretty weak since they lost Shaq.
- shutaro, on 10/14/2008, -0/+2But can they put it in people?
- KillsTheWeak, on 10/15/2008, -0/+2If they can. Florida should have first dibs. We are the ones with 90 degree Christmas.
- cnot3, on 10/15/2008, -0/+2the elves began it, waking up the trees...teaching them to speak... teaching them to flourish in warmer, drier climates?
- Sludgehammer, on 10/15/2008, -0/+7I hope they find something similar for cold tolerance, It'd be nice to have tropical plants like bananas and citrus in colder areas.
- parafish13, on 10/15/2008, -0/+6GO GREEN!

- IanPR, on 10/15/2008, -5/+1So... now we are officially in control of evolution?
SICK. - Eugenitor, on 10/15/2008, -0/+2Screw the food, let's engineer the humans.
- acegi, on 10/15/2008, -0/+1nice. take that global warming.

You forgot to add, "...created by the environmental criminal George W. Bush". Now it will get dugg up fast. - bnut, on 10/15/2008, -0/+1We should be very careful with this technology. Introducing populations not indigenous to the environment can come with serious consequences.
- Fragnarg, on 10/15/2008, -0/+2still no cure for cancer...
- armakaryk, on 10/15/2008, -0/+2are you kidding? there like 3 cures for cancer a week on here.
- canvashinder, on 10/15/2008, -1/+0Ok so we modifies plants to survive drier and hotter weather but what happen to the modified plants if the earth get cooler or wetter?
- Joghobs, on 10/15/2008, -0/+1We now to go Ollie Williams with the blackUweather report:
- Baylan, on 10/15/2008, -1/+0Dug for MSU - the best agricultural college in the world. Our grass was used in China, and our football team isn't even that bad this year.

- pmcizhere, on 10/15/2008, -0/+1Cool, I'm not afraid of a little genetic engineering, this should help crop growers in what, 10 or 20 years?
