- hbyrne, on 12/04/2008, -0/+14Melatonin
- legoman666, on 12/05/2008, -5/+19"jet-lag is as real as any virus or condition."
Lol? It's called being tired. The cure? GOING TO SLEEP.
FFS. - Linguo, on 12/04/2008, -0/+12I thought they already invented it: Booze.
- itsradBrad, on 12/05/2008, -0/+8That statement can be used in any situation.
- visionviper, on 12/05/2008, -0/+6Jet lag is caused by the sudden change to your body's rhythm. The best way to prevent this is to travel hungry and tired - don't get as much sleep as you usually do, and don't eat full meals. By doing this by the time you reach your destination you can fall right into the local schedule of eating and sleeping. It's always worked for me.
- Davegfx, on 12/04/2008, -0/+5How many hundreds of millions do you think this could rake in if it was legit?
- MikeMitchell, on 12/05/2008, -1/+6"Pharmaceutical companies are calling it....speed."
- Cerealkilla316, on 12/05/2008, -1/+6This was already posted, buried for duplicate story
http://digg.com/general_sciences/New_experimental_ ... - IvanB, on 12/05/2008, -0/+5Sorry 'bout that, Digg obviously didn't notify me when it checked for duplicates during the submission process. :(
- Slacker1031, on 12/05/2008, -4/+9I guess curing fake illnesses is just as good as curing real ones, and a lot easier too!
"Thank god, the paramedics are here."
"Where's the emergency?"
"Oh there's no emergency, I'm just... really tired!" - T8erT0T, on 12/05/2008, -0/+4See: Vodka.
- sodade, on 12/05/2008, -0/+3Do not smoke up before you get on a plane. Eat a cookie.
- abe200x, on 12/04/2008, -1/+3I don't know if they need this. When I travel if I need to pass out I take a sedative....if I need to stay up I have some caffeine.
Still though, pretty cool that this is in the works. - inactive, on 12/04/2008, -0/+2Awesome, I travel between 10 time zones every summer. Hopefully this will be out soon.
- vtbarrera, on 02/03/2009, -0/+2All good Ivan. The way I see it, not everyone is on digg everyday; this is good for those people.
- KingHarvest00, on 12/05/2008, -0/+2just dont travel
or travel one timezone at a time so your body can adjust - computerjunkie, on 12/05/2008, -0/+2crack
- Moonsight, on 12/05/2008, -0/+2I misread the title as "New Drug to Cure Jet in the Works!" and immediately thought of Myron from Fallout 2.
- ProfitMoney, on 12/05/2008, -0/+2Meanwhile cancer is still alive and kickin'
- SzymonStas, on 12/05/2008, -0/+2Now the AIG and big 3 CEOs won't have wonky sleep schedules when they arrive in Cancun lol.
- inactive, on 12/05/2008, -0/+2Ii won't take it. You go ahead, I'll watch.
- TheAssassin123, on 12/05/2008, -0/+1Or a bicycle, with a seat.
- inactive, on 12/05/2008, -0/+1Your conspiracy theory is ignoring the overriding motive of pharma companies: profit. They may not care about your vacation, but they do care about the billions of dollars they make annually of a gullible & over-medicated public.
- logic6, on 12/05/2008, -0/+1I travel regularly from Switzerland to parts of the US. Melatonin has never been a solution for me.
A better method is starving yourself for 12-18 hours, then eating a carbohydrate rich meal at around 8:00 AM of the new time zone. It works amazingly well.
http://www.livescience.com/health/080522-food-cloc ... - BrownManUPS, on 12/05/2008, -0/+1Just don't eat a whole lot. You will be tired after you eat and that will mess up your body clock moreso.
- Murrdogg, on 12/05/2008, -0/+1Yes, its called "ginger root". It even comes in pill form now.
- MothBoy, on 12/05/2008, -0/+1It's not that odd at all.
This is the holy grail for the military and they have sunk tons of money in it for years. Nobody really cares about you and your vacation, but the military would love to be able to jet troops half-way around the world, reset their clocks and send them off to fight nice and fresh - lornali, on 12/05/2008, -0/+1I hope it has no side effects.
- andrewellison, on 12/05/2008, -0/+1Great I could always use some more drugs!
- inactive, on 12/05/2008, -0/+1Unless you have a flying phobia. Added paranoia is the last thing you need.
- kimbomitt, on 12/05/2008, -0/+1Dugg for good comment but buried for gratuitous lol.
- inferno10, on 12/05/2008, -1/+2Cocaine is one hell of a drug!
- thegamingguy, on 12/05/2008, -0/+1Horse Tranq's have been around for awhile, don't be a pansy.
- inactive, on 12/05/2008, -1/+2Jet lag is a myth. That's right. I said it.
Next thing you know they'll have a drug to cure loneliness on Valentine's Day. - Swivelstick, on 12/05/2008, -0/+1*insert* terminal illness of choice really
- painting, on 12/05/2008, -0/+1theres a pill for everything. except cancer.
- TheMachine1, on 12/05/2008, -0/+1The last time the story was submitted I looked up the company developing it and the the company mentions on their website the drug has a similar mechanism of action as the FDA approved drug Rozerem/ramelteon.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ramelteon - ohnoerino, on 12/05/2008, -0/+1YES, bring it!
- MothBoy, on 12/05/2008, -0/+1There is no conspiracy theory, it is fact. The military is very interested and has been funding a lot of the research. The top researcher at my wife's lab at Scripps Research Institute (one of the top labs in the country) were bought out by Johnson and Johnson years ago specifically to solve this problem for their military customers. I do actually have some clue what I am talking about.
In case you hadn't noticed, the military has a lot of money to throw around, so you are correct that profit is the motive for the pharms. The fact they have a market beyond the military is a plus for them. - BruB, on 12/05/2008, -0/+1And while we are trying to solve the ever going problem of Jet-lAg, cancer and Aids is still killing people. At least they can have a hard on with Viagra right?
Stupid Scientists. - fightingforair, on 12/05/2008, -0/+1One that people don't do enough:
Sunlight, when you arrive, soak in as much as possible to put your body into the new cycle and to get the Vitamin D from the light. - InsaneOni, on 12/05/2008, -0/+1Does anyone know how this differs from Modafinil (marketed as ProVigil)? I've taken Modafinil before and it's amazing. Even with no sleep, you feel like you just slept 8 hours. It's not something I'd recommend you take often....but for jet lag (or those pesky all nighters in college) it can do wonders.
- logic6, on 12/05/2008, -0/+1This guy is right. Just try it once, it works.
http://www.livescience.com/health/080522-food-cloc ... - slimnickyy, on 12/05/2008, -0/+1The cure is already available. It's called valium or xanax right after take off.
- johnyquest, on 12/05/2008, -0/+1that's what I came in to say. Second that, works wonders.
- MadN, on 12/05/2008, -2/+2Fast the day before you travel.
Breakfast at the destination's local morning.
Your clock is reset to wake at your last "feeding" - dr3minem, on 12/05/2008, -0/+0I have a terrible experience from smoking up before going on a plane.
I cant sleep on planes in the first place, but when I was high, it was taking too long, the crying baby made me want to dragon kick its head off and there was not enough food!!!
I asked for peanuts like every 10 minutes. On a 12 hour flight... - inactive, on 12/05/2008, -1/+1Either smoking marijuana is the cure for jet-lag or the war on drugs is a failure.
