NanoSolar Rakes in Another $50 Million
ecogeek.org — Nanosolar just can't stop making news! After completing it's $100M manufacturing plant, and starting up the manufacture of nearly 500 megawatts of solar generating capacity per year, NanoSolar is taking yet more investment.

- TJ11240, on 04/03/2008, -2/+7This company amazes me. I really cannot wait until their IPO.
- jmpeagle, on 04/03/2008, -1/+3uhh...why would they have an IPO? Seems like they have no problem getting the investment they need.
- TJ11240, on 04/03/2008, -0/+2"If that valuation keeps rising, the only options remaining will be a big-ticket acquisition by a larger company or, more likely, an IPO — but the company and its investors will probably want to wait until some of the current market woes have worked themselves out. That could be the end of this year, by which time it will likely be hungry for more capital anyway."

- OriginalReplica, on 04/03/2008, -0/+5If you invest in their IPO you might as well buy stock in Global Metallurgical Co, and Continental Metals Inc., and Precious Stream Inc. as they are Indium suppliers in the US and Canada. That business will profit right along side NanoSolar.
- Awperator, on 04/03/2008, -0/+2I can't find stock tickers to do some research

- thcobbs, on 04/03/2008, -0/+3ummm... because they can't make any money yet.... they are spending it as fast as they get it.

- ChiffX, on 04/03/2008, -4/+5I really hope they do well. I can't say I've seen any other energy solutions that have convinced me they can work in the long run.

Bravo.
- drake77, on 04/03/2008, -1/+16When can I buy my solar panels?
- ShempRider, on 04/03/2008, -0/+1Right now I'm just looking for a mirror....
- hankmt, on 04/03/2008, -0/+8So far Nanosolar is only selling to utility scale customers. Probably we'll have to wait five years before they have enough production capacity to start serving smaller markets. So Sad...
- mistergoodburge, on 04/03/2008, -14/+3INVEST PEOPLE NOW GET THIS STOCK LETS GO BEAR STERNS YOU GOTTA BE SILLY IF YOU DONT INVEST IN NANOSOLAR COME ON DONT BE SILLY BEAR STERNS FTW

- BellaOxmyxx, on 04/03/2008, -2/+4I thought Dwight Schrute worked for Dunder-Mifflin, not NanoSolar.
- 0crabby0, on 04/03/2008, -2/+3Is this a publicly traded company?
Or is it private?- mwalker52, on 04/03/2008, -0/+6They are private at the moment. The investment they speak of is a private offer.

- jschrab, on 04/03/2008, -0/+6The real dream for me is to start seeing Nanosolar repeatedly in the news like we see Intel in the news; "Oh, yeah, we have a revision of our flagship product, and it's more efficient than the last version at a similar price". If Nanosolar turns the photovoltaic industry into "expect regular steady improvement on a consistent time table"-type industry, then the future is going to be a great place to be!
- Richandler, on 04/03/2008, -4/+2Funny how people complain about one company making money then celebrate when another does the same. People are so weird.
- Scaryclouds, on 04/03/2008, -0/+9The devil is in the how.
- lucutus, on 04/03/2008, -1/+2Always believed going to the source directly was the way to go. I'm very pleased to read this news. Solar is the way to go for sure.
- mrshickadance9, on 04/03/2008, -2/+2And no IPO. God damnit.

- DealCracker, on 04/03/2008, -0/+3A startup technology company taking in large investments is not usually an indication that the company is doing well. In fact, it is often a warning sign that things are not quite right. I've been working in tech startup companies since 1999. I can tell you that the decision making process employed by VCs (venture capitalists) and startup management has little to do with having good products or building a successful and profitable company. Most of the time the goals of the company are oriented toward a short term exit strategy. What is seen from the outside is a hastily built facade but it can't stand up to any serious scrutiny. I don't know if this is the case with NanoSolar, but I can tell you that what I have read sounds all too familiar.
- SexyInsurance, on 04/03/2008, -1/+1There are so many opportunities for solar if they can make it efficient enough. Here's hoping they find a breakthrough that can change the course of history. We're counting on these guys.
- DavidHaHa, on 04/03/2008, -2/+2I'm sorry, I can't resist: "After completing [its] $100M manufacturing plant..."
No apostrophe.- 47f0, on 04/03/2008, -0/+1I can't resist either -
it's - a contraction of "it is"
its - posessive - as in used correctly - look it up.

- slvrbullet87, on 04/03/2008, -1/+1What is with these money grubbing alternative energy companies... why don't they do something to lower the cost of solar panels.
/Sarcasm - heynow21, on 04/03/2008, -0/+1Wow. Naked spam and not one complaint.
