What the hell have you been smoking? - kd1s, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8And when George W. Bush nukes Iran or Iraq, there'll be a humongous glass bowl left for future archaeologists.
- elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Goa'uld.
/not sarcasm. - logic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2*Gets an umbrella*
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Marked as old news. This happened over 100 000 years ago.
- eleraama, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Am I the only one who thinks of the Sandman comic about Morpheus' lover from the desert? "There are stories told by women folk in their secret language, and there are stories told only to menfolk." Or something like that.
- Dotcommer, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Tempnegro is a troll. Ignore him. Hes in every ***** post saying asinine *****.
- vannyx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1SHHHHH keep the goa'uld and the SGC on the DL.
- xcursedx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm thinking more along the lines of nuclear explosion,
why is it so impossible to believe there were cultures with advanced technology ( possibly more advanced then our own )
if you said oh we found this sand turned into glass it's from 3 years ago, no one would be saying meteorite, they'd say nuclear explosion..
but since it happened before WE ( modern civilization ) had the bomb it must be impossible
yeah my ass,
in every ancient culture they describe things we only now can relate with ( flying machines, energy weapons, etc) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Scientists simulated the unusual formation of the glass, and found a pretty good fit with a comet/meteor air-burst many times greater in force that the Russian Tunguska event.
If it had been a nuclear event, there would have remained easily identifiable isotopes from the detonation.
BTW -- Loose the trash talk or DIGG will melt into obscurity when people get sick of it all. - TheZetetic, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Evidence of a meteorite strike... or of aliens???
/sarcasm - wbeaty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Go search on "Desert Glass" or see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desert_glass for lots more info about these catastrophies. There's a really huge one in the Lybian desert. Also in Australia. Just think: a meteor fireball that's so bright and long lasting that tens of square miles of desert sand friggin' MELTS.
- AlphAssassin, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3@tempnegro5

Very Nice!...*best i could do* - kirashira, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2You understand that jews were egyptian back then? They were slaves because of their religion, not their skin colour. Thats why many believe Jesus was brown.
- Sethwm2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I am wondering what silicon would be like made with different kind of sand. Could it be better? worse. I don't know but this is the first thing I thought of when I saw sand and Glass. I am sure someone has tried different kinds of sand? Someone let me know.
- davidrools, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Summary: meteorite hits egypt a long time ago and no one cares
-------The thing I liked most about this article is the correct grammar and spelling, unlike the rest of the articles on digg I've read today. - richardpotato, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Alas this glass has left me wanting.
- thespy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Nice story, although I believe when it happened was closer to the present day than most people think.
More like around 6000 years ago or even sooner than that.
off topic - I've resorted to blocking "Tempnegro".
