- FearlessFreep, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7You asked for it last week, don't you remember?

(Digg.com, either integrate a "duggmirror", or post the link below every article so we don't need to do it ourselves, please) - WallnutBoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4thats all well and good but does it run lin- wait.. what was i saying??
- freff, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7I don't see why anicejew got buried that time. That was actually kinda funny.
It's like he's turned that poor Star of David into his own personal bulls-eye, and everyone just can't stop hitting it. His digg approval ratings have to be on par with that of Sony and George W. Bush. And those guys that post, "but will it blend" in every thread. - willemmulder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3too many remember-jokes now already...!
- phjr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The title is a bit hurray-optimistic, but the story is short and seems to be accurate.
- SciGuy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I second you, Itismyname. I have a Ph.D. (and run a neurosci-related lab) and this is nothing more than PR. I would say this is an incremental step in understanding memory, too, since many other molecules are already known to participate in LTP. I'd say, though, that it isn't that the neurons store the memories: rather, it's how they communicate with each other within neural circuits that (somehow) contain the memories. Molecules within the neurons change connectivity, which in turn changes the electrical properties of the circuit. The real mystery is trying to understand how the change of firing within a circuit provides us with memory.
- jhshukla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1that gives me a hint. brain may not store memories like hard drives/RAM at all. it is a neural network and just as SW neural networks learn, the brain learns. it does not store. so memories may not be memories but simply a lot of logic.
- sockpuppets, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Alternate source (The original keeps falling offline):
http://cordis.europa.eu/fetch?CALLER=EN_NEWS&ACTION=D&SESSION=&RCN=26909 - Itismyname, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1While this article is a step forward in understanding memory, it doesn't come close to explaining memories, as the title implies. Other studies have shown that other molecules and receptors are equally important for proper memory function. But fundamentally the memories are actually stored in the neurons themselves, somehow, rather than in individual molecules. Of course, this is just my opinion as a Neuroscience PhD grad student.
Also, LTP stands for "Long Term Potentiation." - greymarketbrain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I remember when the site was still up.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I don't think I can remember this, I need more of this molecule
- alexgg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2You know... I've been thinking, I don't know why, that they both may be the same spammer person. Here: http://digg.com/offbeat_news/Amazing_Custom_Designed_Sushi he made a really disgusting link to a pic that had nothing to do with sushi. Almost on top of comments.
- jhshukla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1they can't do that (yet/now) since they are not affiliated.
- Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Memories aren't made of molecules, they're made of warm blankets, puppy dog kisses, and cotton candy clouds in a blue sky. Either that or your uncle fiddling about.
- justo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1good call! sometimes the articles by newscientist are rather dodgy...
- michaelb1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I need more of those molecules.
- saichele, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1nevermind...
- chanc, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Ctrl + F "anicejew" or "junkmail02"

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0i have a theory... but i cant tell anyone cause i uh.... forgot. damnit... what is this TLP stuff??? will it blend?

- eibborjames, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0500 years ago the earth was flat. We did not think it, we knew it! It was taught. I don't think anyone will ever know anything.

Learn to play noobs - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+4look buddy, I only have 1 account on digg, but there are lots of people with the star of david, so don't be spreadin' your antisemitism, ok?
