- HBNDonut, on 10/19/2007, -7/+64When I'm "stoned" I usually ponder and dwell on a lot of different things. I come up with all kinds of theorys and ideas on the world, the universe, people... plus I have a greater appreciation for movies, music, games etc. There is no doubt, marijuanna stimulates the mind and boosts the creativity of your imagination. I fail to see how that's a bad thing.
Unless the government, doesn't WANT us to be smart... - reeder, on 10/13/2007, -6/+41marijuana + my brain = awesome creative wonderful intellectual time. I have no idea who these people are who become retarded when high, but try picking up a book next time.
- scottykempf, on 10/12/2007, -2/+35What? I thought that if you smoked marijuana, then you go crazy (madness), start raping women and committing crimes. Right?
- NikoKun, on 10/15/2007, -2/+26Wow! Neat! Thats a very interesting read!
"Your brain is programed to process pot." - ripstuntz, on 10/15/2007, -6/+26Name one drug that is safer than pot. Not alcohol, NOT EVEN THE LEGAL SALVIA.
Step 1. Elect Ron Paul
Step 2. Peace. - LogicBomB, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18It's not like it went anywhere... go get some.
- minnymoo, on 10/13/2007, -5/+22this is why it should be legalized.
- umbriago, on 10/11/2007, -1/+16"More doctors smoke Camels than any other cigarette!"
I haven't touched pot in over ten years, and it's been fifteen years since I used it on a daily basis, and let me tell you two things:
1) Yes, I'm that old, and
2) I miss it sometimes. - StrangeFamous, on 10/11/2007, -1/+16In response to WoLFBoP:
It's also due to the fact that with legalized pot comes legalized hemp, which has the potential to become a major contender with the rest of the cash crops of the world. Industrial hemp would create serious competition for the paper, oil, pharmaceutical and food industries, all of which are doing as much as they can to prevent the public from realizing just how awesome this plant really is. - RabidAngel, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16You all should know that the alcohol lobby, "back in the day", pushed their money behind the campaign to criminalize marijauna because it was cutting into their profits. Propaganda "studies" were conducted and so on, along with television ads to sway the public opinion towards the lobbyist's agenda. Not much has changed, has it?
- PhantomRogue, on 10/11/2007, -0/+13Like the war on drugs.
- MacGyver2210, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Most. Anticlimactic. Story. Ever.
- Yurhiness, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12"See, I think drugs have done some good things for us, I really do, and if you don't believe drugs have done good things for us, do me a favor. Go home tonight and take all your albums, all your tapes, and all your CDs and burn 'em. Cause you know what? The musicians who made all that great music that's enhanced your lives throughout the years? Rrrrreal *****' high on drugs."
"Today a young man on acid realized that all matter is merely energy condensed into a slow vibration, that we are all one consciousness, experiencing itself subjectively, there's no such thing as death, life is only a dream, in which is an imagination of ourselves. Here's Tom with the weather."
"It's not a war on drugs, it's a war on personal freedom, is what it is, okay? Keep that in mind at all times. Thank you." - strifeprime, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12It doesn't make you lazy. It just promotes laziness in people who are already lazy. I get high all the time and still work, run, and lift weights every day.
- HollowMarkeD, on 10/15/2007, -2/+12Yes it isn't as harmful as the politicians would have you believe. Last year the UK downgraded the drug to class C - similar to over the counter pills. However, there is growing evidence that the strains of grass around these days are up to 30 times stronger than 20 years ago, and that heavy smoking whilst the brain is forming (ie under 18) is causing damage. Brain scans of heavy 18 year old users who have toked since 14 show parts of the brain have died. Even the famous "Mr. Nice", the champion of pot smoking around the world for decades has gone on record saying people with schizophrenic tendencies should probably stay away from the drug. (Link - > http://www.canaseed.com/CannabisNews.aspx?id=406 )
I'd say the above points to an even more pressing case to legalise it: get it out of the hands of the black market and slap a 18 minimum age on it like alcohol. - HBNDonut, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10I do consider myself to be quite smart, and I know what I am talking about here. Sure, when people are high they appear to be like brain dead zombies... I'm the same. But their minds are thinking on a crazy scale of awesomeness. BTW This is usually why people become paranoid... they think too much about the wrong things.
I think people would understand if they had tried it a few times. - random19, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9I was actually reading this about a month ago - I thought it seemed like I got "higher" off of just a few hits than smoking a lot. So I started researching and found this page that explains it all. The more often you smoke, the less you need to smoke each instance to get high.
It really is fascinating and I wish there would be more studies done on the drug so we can learn even more about it. But that'll never happen while its illegal. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9You might want to ease up on the pot if you think the government can't figure out a way to profit off of something via taxes.
- Authustian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8You sir, hit the nail right on the head. Combine that with how easy it is to grow(though i'd gladly buy a taxed pack of pre-made joints), and that it would cut into alcohol sales once a majority of people come to realize it's much better than drinking. There's no hangover (unless you count the fog the day after smoking yourself retarded, but why would you do that anyway?), no liver damage, no heightened aggressiveness... I could go on, but I think we're all putting 2 and 2 together... and coming up with 420 :)
- mojoe1185, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Did anyone else notice the "THE N.I.M.H. TOLERANCE STUDY " on rats .... come on, lol. I loved that book when I was 12.
- BitBurner, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8I smoke daily. no one knows because I use clear eyes and I keep it private for the most part. I have never been accused of being slow or stupid. Just the contrary. I am referred to as a "genius" and not just about things in my field. but in my field I am leaps and bounds above others, and am the #1 source of knowledge for friends, family, and clients. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
- thewatchman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7you said "they cannot figure out a way to profit from it in taxes"-- are you talking about the U.S. govt? rofl, they can figure a way to tax anything! my guess is that legalizing pot would cripple other more tax-lucrative industries.
- emjaymj, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7I can brew my own beer too and distill my own liquor. Damn!
It's not a taxation problem, it's a problem of special-interest groups. The prison industry would be extremely hurt if drugs were to become legalized. You can bet they lobby their asses off. - Krovvy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Mmmmm Space Cakes!
- Digitalfilm43, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6That's what I learned from "Reefer Madness" too!
- Informacity, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Too bad that its over 10 years old and some of the info has been thrown out the door. It's an interesting article, but nothing that proves current studies wrong.
- tyme, on 11/07/2007, -3/+9But he's a good start...
- TheSexyGeek, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Have you ever smoked pot that was grown "Just about anywhere?" It's *****
You can grow your own tomatoes, but I bet you pay people to do that instead. That's where the taxes come in. - fatdog789, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Except that as the THC builds up in your body, the receptors decrease to compensate, which requires MORE ingestion to reach the same buzz.
- slothlovechunk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5So are many things that kill you.
I hate the "it's natural" argument. - treelovinhippie, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6It won't be legalized any time soon with governments promoting people to remain ignorant about drugs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DC0O5OVnDkY
- MikeonTV, on 10/15/2007, -3/+7Don't get high on your own supply!
- gropo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5"Cynics have argued that tolerance to marijuana is proof of dependence, and proof that the drug is too dangerous to be used safely and responsibly."
"Cynics" obviously have never met successful musicians, authors, comedians, scientists, philosophers etc. who have "used it safely and responsibly" for decades despite the ridiculous puritanical taxation laws. Just astoundingly idiotic propaganda-driven thinking, that. - gingerbreadMan, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7haha... im high now. in one of the most expensive countries for weed. but at least im high
- maou, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5dugg cuz im high too :D
- inactive, on 10/13/2007, -0/+4Wait, this article is from 1995.
WTF. - NapalmNewt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It's called a habitual addiction, like if you were addicted to playing WoW or watching porn. Habitual addiction has nothing to do with physical addiction that actually makes your body need the drug.
- heartcoldfusion, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Summary: There are two chemicals in pot which come into play: THC and CBN. The article says that CBN is what people associated with being 'stoned:' poor motor coordination, disorientation, that sort of thing. Basically CBN is what causes people to act like burnouts. THC is associated with being 'high:' introspection, intuition, appreciation of things, etc. The article says that the brain develops a tolerance to CBN, which means the more pot you smoke, the less you act like a stoner, because your body is used to the affects of CBN. It also says the body regulates the effects of THC, so the more THC you ingest, the less you notice the effects.
So basically, according to the article, you should smoke high quality marijuana regularly but not in great quantities to achieve the greatest result. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Nah, can't screw your life up any more than drinking, cigarettes, video games, or porn will.
All boils down to use and abuse. Period. - raybury, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Um, drug tolerance just means that you need more of the psychoactive drug to achieve the same high, which means you are exposed to more of the carcinogens present in marijuana smoke. Because THC stays in your system, a regular user SHOULD be able to get a buzz with LESS than a neophyte, so people who have built up such a tolerance that they need "enormous quantities" are simply smoking too much pot, and not helping their brains or any other part of themselves.
FD: Never used it, inclined to be willing to legalize it so long as folks stay put until the effects wear off. (Don't inhale and drive!) - barbobot, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Chlorine can be naturally produced too, should we all go drink a cup?
I really have no problem with weed usage, I just hate the "It's natural so it's good for you" *****. Not everything artificially created is bad for you, and not everything that grows on a tree is good for you. - NonpareilNagle, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5I wonder what it would be like legalized... Would it outsell alcohol and tobacco combined?
- StrangeFamous, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3The article points out that there are two separate chemicals in pot that have different effects on the brain. One, THC, produces the feelings of stimulation, introspection and mild euphoria (getting "high"). The other, Cannabinol, produces the sedative-like effects that can manifest themselves in symptoms like loss of coordination and lethargy (getting "stoned").
Depending on the quality of the pot you smoke, and the amount of those two chemicals in the pot, your experience will vary between the two major effects.
People who only have access to skunk weed will experience more of the "stoned" effect because their pot has less THC, while those lucky enough to have dank buds will get "high"... at least for the first couple times they smoke. After using it regularly, regardless of the quality, your brain will shut down its chemical receptors to balance out the chemicals, and you won't be able to get as high as you did those first few times. Waiting a few days will allow your body to process the chemicals. Your brain will then open up those receptors, allowing you to get really high again.
This article is a great argument against routine binge smoking (wish I had read it back in college) Limiting your intake to once a day, or every other day, or even just on the weekends is a great way to save money and still enjoy the ganj at it's fullest, without that empty feeling after you've reached the height of your tolerance and simply can't get high anymore. - URnotheonly1, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Just did 3 morning bonghits....:0)
- thewatchman, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4dude, everybody thinks they're "quite smart"... especially here on digg.
- law1ess, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Too bad the body doesn't place a natural limit on the munchies!
- encumbent, on 10/22/2007, -0/+3ever seen a 20 dolla bill...... on WEED?
- sj200, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Thanks Dr. for your scientific input.
- GeneralFault, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Tobacco is very easy to grow as well. So why are your not profiting off of Americas addiction to cigarettes? Thats right, because there is a big industry that has all of the distribution and sales channels already; besides you have better things to do.
- rictek, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3This article is a bit misleading, just because there are receptors for cannabionoinds doesn't mean we are meant to process them. Cannabinoid receptors are there for endogenous cannabinoids such as anandimide and 2AG. Simmilarly heroin, morphine, oxy, opium bind to natural opiate receptors but that doesn't mean we are meant to process them, same thing with nictoinic receptors naturally meant for ACh but also bind nicotine.
Secondly the "how to stay high" tips are full of misinformation. Vaporizers are most efficient, joints are next, then bowls and last bongs which contain water that actually filter out some THC leaving the tar. This was confirmed by the MAPS studies. -
