- Varz, on 06/30/2008, -0/+4There are obviously a lot of marijuana users on digg. The general consensus seems to be pot is completely harmless but I found this a while ago about HEAVY marijuana use causing premature brain aging:

Does anyone know anything more about this? Does anyone know if a lesser dosage still causes smaller amounts damage? I only brought this up because everyone seems to say that it's COMPLETELY HARMLESS yet there are some indications in might not be. I'm not trying to stop people from using it, I'm just posting this because a lot of people here seem to use it and may not know of this research. - Brianguy2000, on 06/30/2008, -0/+4My former high school friends that smoked weed heavily turned into complete idiots so I will have to say smoking pot at a young age is a bad idea. It's probably because they were too lazy to learn or do homework. Sure marijuana should be legal, but I think it should have an age restriction of 21 and over to buy it.
- wynja, on 06/30/2008, -0/+3The point is that you should be free to do with your body as you please. Why should we deny ourselves the joy of marijuana smoking for nothing more than the joy of smoking?
- Taciturn, on 06/30/2008, -0/+2The summary you linked to doesn't define "heavy use." It also doesn't address whether the shrinkage is permanent, or goes away when marijuana use stops.
Even so, people who describe pot as *completely* harmless are off-base; it's not. What it is is less harmful than alcohol, or tobacco, or caffeine, or refined sugar, when used responsibly. - deckarddigg, on 06/30/2008, -0/+2... until you smoke it.
- bearsandbulls, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1Anti-inflammable my ass. Spark, spark.
- nreynolds, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1first of all, the people in the study smoked at least 5 joints daily. secondly, the study didn't test if it was actually the marijuana that was doing this or if it was other carcinogens that come from smoking the substance instead of vaporizing it.
lastly, there are plenty of very smart people that have smoked pot their entire lives. I would be surprised if low to moderate usage produced any shrinkage whatsoever, but (like every substance known to man) too much will obviously be harmful.
