- deepdiggdude, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4Video: Awesome. Music: Awful
- Jaq524, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3"Man flies without a plane"
Didn't they do this, like, back in the 60s? Yeah, and I think they reached the moon, too... - rockforever, on 10/12/2007, -10/+3George, George, George of the Jungle...
- twtmc, on 10/12/2007, -7/+54The only reason he didn't want to fly on planes anymore is cuz of all the ***** snakes on them.
- dtd00d, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Reminds me of that Discovery Channel commercial where that guy straps some wings to his back and "flies" off a bridge over a river, to everyone's amazement. "He can fly!" "He's flying!" they say, except for one old man who looks back and says, "but can he swim?"
- cdahlkvist, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1@deepdiggdude
You located these where?
I have seen plenty of these and Yves Rossy is not only a late-comer but a farce. He keeps "showcasing" his jet pack but it simply has not worked. He has had little-to-no ability to actually steer, he has not been able to control speed and while it looks cool, all of these people claim that once in flight they can not only shorten altitude loss but negate it, meaning they can fly upwards, none have been able to maintain a controlled flight.
Meanwhile, ultralight and skydivers have been able to show more performance improvements.
Self contained flight, will happen. Frogs to do something original before the U.S. or Japan, unlikely.
Marked as inaccurate. If you RTFA you can do nothing but agree. - sufferwell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm watching this guy on Discovery Channel Europe right now, I really hope to do that one day...
The guy nearly died once flying BTW - EternalDarkWing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"I'm an albatross. I'm an albatross. I'm flap, flap, flapping my albatross wings. Flap, flap, flapping my albatross wiiiiiings!"
- film42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't mean to sound negative, but the title should be "Man flies with wings!"
- l0tharnt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Amazing to say the least...I want one!
- bonkers1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Love the description.
- soogy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The title is even better. You don't need a plane to fly, you can just use a helicopter.
- Oculus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Link to video on his site. www.jet-man.com/actuel.html
- djalterego, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Awesome! Where do I buy my wings?
- Sumyunguy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10http://www.jet-man.com/actuel.html
{/real link}- m1th, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I had my "The Departed" soundtrack in the background so I turned off the actual audio in that clip and man... watching him fly with that music in the background was perfect.
I HAVE to try this before I die. - dtd00d, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1How soon before you die?
- rkuchiki, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Within 5 minutes after trying.
- m1th, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I had my "The Departed" soundtrack in the background so I turned off the actual audio in that clip and man... watching him fly with that music in the background was perfect.
- sufferwell, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Hey, that's my invention!
(just kidding, but seriously I was dreaming of doing something like this)
That's just awesome... love the way he calls himself Jet-man LOL - flamingmb, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2yeah I can do that too, its called a helicopter, it aint no stinkin plane.
- Torx, on 10/12/2007, -7/+0I didnt read the article, yea i know "RTFA"... but.. how the hell does he keep from snapping his neck down, from the frontal pressure?? Or is there even any pressure at all??
- heyitsme23, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6it says 115 mph, not 515 mph.
- sfacets, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2He's not flying, he's falling.
- Xinareiaz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13No, he can gain altitude. that is flying
- pathy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21Falling, with style.
- Nar1117, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Yeah this is pretty much older news... But thats ok, its 4 AM EST, so nobody really cares i guess.
Ive actually always wondered how they make jet engines that small... pretty awesome.
Something Icarus would have enjoyed for sure...- reknaps, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They're turbine engines
- shafted2k, on 10/12/2007, -16/+0wtb 100g mailbox kkthnx
- Dotcommer, on 10/12/2007, -10/+6lol wtf is WRONG with you? This isnt god damn WoW. Now, run along and go back to playing your sorry ass lvl 1 pally you poor little lost soul...
- wstrucke, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3don't think anyone actually got the 'joke', or a least it wasn't funny
- vlait, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Rocket boots ftw
http://www.yourdailymedia.com/media/1131718624- Xinareiaz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1lol, now all he needs is 2 more on each foot and he might achieve vertical takeoff. Although he would need some better way too hold the fuel...too bad kerosene isn't compressible eh?
- batmaster, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2As much as we'd all like to see this, it won't ever happen.
Well, at least not while this whole "Terrorist boogeyman" scare is going on.
Could you imagine how fast this would get crushed under, "Well, terrorists could use it on Americans!!" ? - Niro, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Sorry to say that this is old.... this guy has been doing this for a while i actually saw him for the first time about 2 years ago, but he still get's my Digg !!!
- barkerja, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is great, where can we get one!?
- Xinareiaz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Why buy one when you can just custom make the thing out of carbon fiber for $150,000!? /sarcasm
It's cool though how he used those jet engines...People have done a lot of cool things with those, like the rocket boots posted a little higher up, some guys in Sweden strapped a pair of the things to a bike and went cruseing down the road...The sad thing is the engines cost something like $3,500 a piece. http://www.jetcatusa.com/ they sell them
- Xinareiaz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Why buy one when you can just custom make the thing out of carbon fiber for $150,000!? /sarcasm
- ShaneApex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Man, what would happen if you had a birdstrike cruising around strapped into that thing
- michael1406, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"I ain't gettin' on no plane!"
"No need."
"I pity...me." - gizzymo, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Man flies without a plane.....
You mean with a helicopter? - drummerjed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Did he consult HG2G?
- unruled, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2duplicate story. Was posted last week.
- wstrucke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10duplicate comment. was posted 10,000,000,000 times already.
- Imus, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5In further news... Saddam flies for .07 seconds. More at eleven.
- aptmunich, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Okay maybe it wasn't funny the first time it was said either ...
Man flies without a plane!!!
...uses helicopter- dtd00d, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2...or the second or the third. Read the comments before you post exactly what's been said above.
- zodieman, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Dupe. I submitted the video like a week ago. I guess please don't digg the videos
- P5ycHo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1In accurate. He's falling.
Yes he can gain altitude, but he could never take off.- rowanjl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So by your logic, when a bird falls of a branch and flaps its wings to gain altitude, it isn't flying?
- ForrestGump, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1dude... your logic makes no sence LOL!!
how do u expect him to take off from the ground by him self?
Flying isn't defined by your ability to take off, its defined by the time your total life is greater than your total weight. - ForrestGump, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1stupid spell check, i meant to say lift not "life"
- Infekted, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2wasn't this posted a while ago. and that other one was link to a video.
and wuts up with the description...
"Plane? I don't need no stinking plane!"
how do you think he got up there? - theotherme, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Actually it is a plane, the "cockpit" just happens to be a harness instead of a seat.
- r3becca, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I agree.
Impressive but where do you draw the line. Take off the engines and make the wings a bit bigger and you have a hang glider.
I'll be really impressed when someone straps jets to their feet and manages to maintain horizontal flight using just his/her body to create lift.
- r3becca, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I agree.
- KamikazeeDriver, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2This was posted last week on digg, to a video link.
- TheDuke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Shouldn't this guy used some old Iron Maiden for the video? After all they did have a song "The Flight Of Icarus"
http://allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:d72vad4kv8w8 - swaters, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0The idea is great, the guy is brilliant but the writing is terrible!
The author needs to go read a book on how to write for people over 6 years of age. - nubnub, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2this was on digg before
- kevinarth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Don't know, but I'd give my left nut to have one of those!
- foofightrs777, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Flying is learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss
- GilbertZ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0One of the Network Jewelers on our site has been building a rocket too. Van Graff. He made it to Popular Science. I googled popsci but the pages aren't coming out right. I'm going to find a valid page and submit it to Digg. OK done: http://digg.com/videos/educational/Pictures_of_the_RocketMan
- lpmusix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1dupe...
- WallnutBoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Haha.. Thats pretty awesome!
Kevinarth.. you'd seriously give your left nut?! o.O Lol well I know I wouldn't! :p - grampajoe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Sorry, but that's still a plane.
- bcimhe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0one word, "jealous".
