- travelina, on 10/01/2008, -0/+52On the National Geographic site, Brian Skerry talks about how he got that shot, and how one of the whales would swim off and then turn back and wait for him, like a dog would:

- sjps220, on 10/01/2008, -0/+23They're called right whales because they were the easiest whales to hunt due to the fact that they floated when killed. Now they're endangered. go figure.
- GorfTron, on 10/01/2008, -1/+20This is much like meeting a date from match.com.
- chubbymidget, on 10/01/2008, -3/+22Did he punch it to save his dog?
- Someguy101, on 02/19/2009, -0/+16What's really cool about this picture is that the whale is checking out the divers, not the other way around. It's cool seeing it's curiosity. Generally I've found that Dolphins and whales tend to keep their distance from divers due to the noise of our bubbles. The clarity of the water in this picture may be the reason it was a little more willing to get closer. For me when I'm out diving usually I'll see whales and dolphins up at the surface then when I dive down they disappear to at least beyond my visibility range.
I did a beach dive once and we had a float out there near where we were diving and on shore people saw a California Grey Whale circling the buoy but we never saw it. - supermanly, on 10/01/2008, -0/+15and a brilliant water! so blue and helpful!
