- Catchpen, on 10/11/2008, -6/+65My own Spider Pig will soon be reality!
- CVL4317, on 10/11/2008, -4/+49Spider pig..spider pig..
- dmbchris, on 10/12/2008, -2/+30I thought that the "dirty secret" (no pun intended) of this technology was that they wear out very quickly, as the surface sticks not only to walls but to dust and dirt. The geckos make it work because they constantly secrete mucus that cleans the hairs, but everything they make in the lab doesn't come with any cleaning mechanism. You may get halfway up the wall and then fall off!
- MillurTime, on 10/12/2008, -1/+22Without pics of wall-walking this article is worthless.
- mydingaling, on 10/12/2008, -0/+18pigs or it didn't happen
- Renian, on 10/12/2008, -0/+15Or instead of using this invention, you could just be a ninja.
- Flappy3, on 10/12/2008, -0/+14Does whatever a spider-pig does...
- I3AyZ, on 10/12/2008, -5/+17So easy a caveman can do it....wait no thats Geico
- cugs90, on 10/12/2008, -2/+13Where can I get some?
- FizzanoMatrix, on 10/12/2008, -2/+12Don't they mean new "Gekko" glue, for such uses as liquidating Bluestar assets.
- faceless323, on 10/12/2008, -0/+9no he can't
he's a pig - charm803, on 10/12/2008, -0/+8Can he swing from a web
- inactive, on 10/12/2008, -1/+7"A 1-inch (2.5-cm) square of the adhesive can support the weight of a 220-pound (100-kg) man climbing up a vertical surface, but it can be easily lifted and reapplied"
YOU FAIL, read the article next time. - abajaj2280, on 10/12/2008, -0/+6please, write more spiderpig comments...
- stuffradio, on 10/12/2008, -0/+6Look outtttt
- doublefelix, on 10/12/2008, -2/+8Post-it® notes will never be the same.
- shotgunefx, on 10/12/2008, -1/+7Actually, while the stuff is cool, don't hold your breath for a spidey-suit. I can't find the link at the moment, but the problem with this new stuff is that it takes a great deal of force to "stick" in the first place, one place where the gecko is still ahead
- compgeek, on 10/12/2008, -6/+11You can walk on walls now?
No but I just saved 15% on my car insurance by switching to Geico - inactive, on 10/12/2008, -1/+6Attach both of your feet to a wall and see for how long your ankles or your knees can handle your own weight in a horizontal standing position. Still think you can walk on a wall?
- jwoelmer2, on 10/12/2008, -1/+6Did you read through the WHOLE article? They said near the end that if you peal it, it'll come off.
- freqk, on 10/12/2008, -0/+5"A new type of dry glue designed to mimic gecko feet is 10 times stickier than the gravity-defying lizards"
Ridiculous.
They do not HAVE glue on their feet, it has to do with tiny "hairs" on their toes and the tensions created at the molecular level.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gecko#Gecko_toes:_set ... - davidbeile, on 10/12/2008, -3/+8I see hundreds of practical jokes in the making...
- azreal156, on 10/12/2008, -1/+6They said if you lift at an angle then it will release. They described it as if your foot were stuck in some mud, if you pull straight up it's not gonna happen, but when you peel the foot slowly away then it comes out.
- sanman, on 10/12/2008, -0/+5Gecko Pig
- aresef, on 10/12/2008, -0/+4Mohinder Suresh on line 1.
- MasterGrief, on 10/12/2008, -0/+4:(
- unhg, on 10/12/2008, -0/+4Time to invent 4 cybernetic tentacle arms...
- ShadowofAres, on 10/12/2008, -3/+7[insert bad gecko-geico joke here]
- Clocked, on 10/12/2008, -0/+4he is the spider pig...
- miggyb, on 10/12/2008, -0/+4Indeed. Buried as inaccurate.
- Jeffler, on 10/12/2008, -0/+4Now watch Geico be the first to offer sticky-fall insurance.
- inactive, on 10/12/2008, -0/+4Don't Geckos use Van der Waals forces to sticks to surfaces?
- DirtyBinLV, on 10/12/2008, -0/+4Mucus....is there anything it can't do?
- inactive, on 10/12/2008, -0/+3geckos feet arent sticky, they have millions of microscopic hairs that interact at an atomic level with the surface they are adhering to.l
- I3AyZ, on 10/12/2008, -3/+6a pig walks into a bar. and the bartender says "Why the long face". the pig says "I ran out of Gecko Glue"
http://canberkakduygu.com/Spider_Pig___Color_by_Io ... - whoreable, on 10/12/2008, -0/+3I guess they could walk on Waals instead.
- harlowsmonkeys, on 10/12/2008, -0/+3Well, you could crawl on walls, or hang on walls. Walking? Not with human ankles.
- mbatterham, on 10/12/2008, -0/+3Pfft. ask any pre-schooler
- ChinezePanda, on 10/12/2008, -0/+3This like that ***** in "Pippy Long Stocking" ?
- MasterGrief, on 10/12/2008, -1/+4Sounds like you've been, too.
- stuffradio, on 10/12/2008, -0/+2I think though, what would help is using some sort of rope to support your back and head, etc.
- inactive, on 10/12/2008, -0/+2Octopus stewie will soon be a reality!
- whoreable, on 10/12/2008, -0/+2Should have let him live. They eat the bugs in your house.
- stuffradio, on 10/12/2008, -0/+2It can't be tasty
- innocentsinner, on 10/12/2008, -0/+2They mention that in the article. I think the term 'stickier' just refers to the power to 'stick/grip' to something.
- marmanukem, on 10/12/2008, -0/+2Want
- Slackersrule, on 10/12/2008, -0/+2what?
- mouthymadness, on 10/12/2008, -0/+2Finally, because that adhesive sucks.
- Meocross, on 10/12/2008, -0/+2Strange black liquid found at 10 o clock.
- ATLien74, on 10/12/2008, -0/+2Cool! Those geeks over at Ga Tech are always up to something.
