Loss of natural teeth, by state
statemaster.com — Nice looking graphs from all 50 states, and the percentage of people who lose their teeth. The top ten states don't surprise me at all.

- jdgold, on 10/12/2007, -80/+35Haha, almost exactly what anyone would expect. Seems loss of teeth has an inverse relationship with level of IQ... who woulda thunk it.
- dallen, on 10/12/2007, -30/+64more like level of health care available, but continue your bigotry
- blobzorz, on 10/12/2007, -5/+28I'd like to see a comparison to canada :p
- Greyhaven7, on 10/12/2007, -13/+40something tells me there are dentists in West VA, TN, KY, etc... just a lack of motivation to go to them, or lack of money to afford them... but certainly not a lack of dentists themselves (health care).

http://sq.4mg.com/IQpolitics.htm - timmarhy, on 10/12/2007, -6/+16if your unable to afford to go to a dentist, that equates to them being unavaible.
- lame_duck, on 10/12/2007, -31/+22Did you even bother to read before bashing my state?
"Adults aged 65+ who have had all their natural teeth extracted."
OMG!!! WE GOT ALOT OF PEOPLE WHO GET THEIR TEETH PULLED! OHES NOES!!!! News flash, old people get teeth pulled. Ever heard of false teeth? Also, there is this new thing where all your teeth are pulled and replaced with stems and false teeth. Not as good as your old but if your already 65+, you won't notice.
BTW, stay out of West Virginia. We don't need stuckup hippies like you all. Judge much? - lame_duck, on 10/12/2007, -28/+8Digg me down, prove my point that you are all south bashers.
- TopherT, on 10/12/2007, -25/+15Lame duck needs to pull his boyfriend's dentures out of his ass, they're making him cranky.
- lame_duck, on 10/12/2007, -21/+6TopherT: Nice use of elementry school humor.
- Greg-J, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14The whole 65 and over argument doesn't match up with my state. I live in one of the highest rated retirement states in the country and I'm way at the bottom. Go figure.
- indirect, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3"Looks like it matches pretty closely to me :)"
I've never given much confidence to IQ tests. The thought of describing some body's intelligence by one number just seems silly to me. - iHeartLiberty, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Actually, dental health is strongly correlated with nutrition. Bad food eventually means bad teeth. There are *many* countries in the world that have almost no dentists, but most of their citizens have great teeth. http://www.price-pottenger.org/
- drn666, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Although this is a fairly questionable comment, there is probably some truth in it in that if you compare this list to the education levels of the states, there is probably a corellation. For some reason, if you're not tought that it's important to brush your teeth, you just don't.
That said, I doubt this has anything to do with health care. Canada has socalized health care but no socialized dental care (you have to pay out of pocket, or have a health plan) and I'm willing to bet it still has better overall dental health. - ArcherB, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Gee, and here I thought red-necks were supposed to be the bigots.
You have beaten them all with a single sentence.
I bet your mother is so proud. - Popdmb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0"something tells me there are dentists in West VA, TN, KY, etc... just a lack of motivation to go to them, or lack of money to afford them... but certainly not a lack of dentists themselves (health care)."
good call...but i'd go with lack of motivation:

- rekrapt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4One word... Poverty. See, I'm from Mississippi, and I can spell. I even have all my teeth. Imagine that.
- dave31175, on 10/12/2007, -23/+6...and how much taxpayer money was wasted on this? I know this is how I want the government to use the money it extorts from me...
- willcode4beer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Imagine, the CDC is interested in targeting disease. Just crazy
- AsciiAnsi, on 10/12/2007, -47/+12Actually, the stats here are slightly misleading. They show percentages not actual numbers.
Take a few examples:
Alabama: 31.9% of population is approx. 1.4 million people OR 27 toothless people per square mile.
New York: 16.8% is approx. 3 million people OR 63 toothless people per square mile.
California: 13.7% is about 4.5 million people - 28 per square mile.
It looks like New York has a far worse toothless problem than Alabama.- helix400, on 10/12/2007, -2/+45Heh, that was one of the most unusual butchering of statistics I've ever seen.
Percentages are a *perfect* way to measure rates between states. - Greyhaven7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16I'm with helix...
Percentages are exactly how to represent the idea properly. - bcool, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10yeah, you can use facts to prove anything that's even remotely true.
- Gerz1219, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Doesnt that mean New York has 312 toothFUL people per square mile versus 57 toothful people per square mile in Alabama?
[edit - New York has WAY more than 3 million people. It's 7 million in NYC alone. Even with your completely faulty numbers that I didn't bother to check you're way off] - timmarhy, on 10/12/2007, -9/+8his view is perfectly valid. his representation shows the density of toothless bastards per square mile, which will tell you how likely you are to run into them, and their bad breath.
which is all i care about. - dadrox, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7“There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics”
- AsciiAnsi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0 - "Percentages are a *perfect* way to measure rates between states."
First of all, percentages of population only show accurate results in samplings of similar size. You can't for example accurately compare 50% in a sample of 10 people to a 50% in a sample of 1000 people. Per capita numbers or numbers related to population density are a better comparison.
- "New York has WAY more than 3 million people. It's 7 million in NYC alone. Even with your completely faulty numbers that I didn't bother to check you're way off"
You obviously didn't read my comment at all. I said "16.8% is approx. 3 million people" - rather, 16.8% of New York's total population is approx 3 million people. Granted, I used population numbers from 1999/2000, so the totals will be off slightly.
The point being (as many have said), use the same set of numbers and statistics to prove any point of view you wish. You can't simply look at a single set of data and come to an educated conclusion.
Plus, don't get tiffy at me just because you'd have more toothless people in proximity to you in New York than in Alabama. Lighten up people...

By the way, you couldn't pay me enough to move to Kentucky, the de-evolving state. - ArcherB, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2I'm in Texas. You can't get much more "South" than that without visiting the Fla Keys or Mexico.
Texas ranked 41 in toothlessness, tied with NY at 42. Where does your state rank?
Ignorant yankees make me laugh. - willcode4beer, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3ArcherB
I thought being from Texas would make you a Yankee too.
A Dictionary is a wonderful thing:
"Yankee - A native or inhabitant of the United States." - benhocking, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@willcode4beer - see: http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=yankee
Definitions 1 & 2 are the ones most commonly used in the US. Definition #3 is usually only used by limeys. ;) Context usually helps. "Damn Yankees" almost always refers to definition #2 above. Btw, although I grew up in the South (Georgia), I was born overseas (Army brat) to Northern parents (Ohio). As far as I'm aware, no one uses definition #3 in the US, unless they are trying to be funny or are making a point about England vs. the US. - willcode4beer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1benhocking, I guess you're not a baseball fan. There's that team in the state that has that island ;-)
How does the joke go, "Yankees come to visit, Damn Yankees come to stay"
I'm afraid my bigger point was missed. I am really against the word yankee being used in a derogatory form by Americans toward Americans. Its just plain anti-American. Its like if you're from Georgia, and another Georgian tries to insult you by calling you a damn Georgian.
For the other meanings, look at where they come from. The southern states started a war to remove themselves from the United States. They were trying to segregate themselves from the rest of the country. - benhocking, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@willcode4beer - actually, definition #1 was the one being used by some of my New England friends. For them, it was a matter of pride, that they were Yankees, but New Yorkers were not. Very few Southerners really use the term "Yankee" in a derogatory sense. It's up there with "honkey" being used to describe white folk. It's rarely actually considered derogatory. Well, not quite. Honkey is usually being used playfully as a pejorative, whereas Yankee can frequently be used without even being playfully pejorative. As in, oh, this place doesn't serve sweet tea? They must be run by (damn) Yankees. ;)
Oh, and no, I'm not a baseball fan, nor a fan of any organized sport. I enjoy playing sports (well, actually I don't like playing baseball), but not watching them.

How will you measure the TOOTHLESS EPIDEMIC?!?! - reidypeidy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Yeah, why would they include Puerto Rico and not Hawaii? Not that there is anything wrong with Puerto Rico, but isn't Hawaii an actual state? Puerto Rico is just a commonwealth of the US.
- rezophonic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8It's common knowledge that Hawaiians vomit their stomachs upon their prey, wrapping it around their victim, and digesting their food before swallowing their stomach again.
- MrIcee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Aloha from Hawai'i...
It is not surprising to us that Hawai'i is not on the list. Most people don't know it is a state and I doubt most students can point to where it is on a map.
Case in point... look at te TV weathermen and where they put alaska and hawai'i... it usually ends up being under california and next to mexico. Go figure.
As per Hawaiian teeth health, I suspect we are pretty awful judging from some of the teeth I see around. So many different cultures are here (the big island has more cultural diversity than any other area in the nation) - each with their own bad habits :)

I therefore conclude that the key to healthy teeth... Heavy drinking! (All the proof I'll be needing anyway)- elpepe, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3It's probably just because Wva is one of the poorest states and thus liquor sales per capita is lowest... or perhaps alcohol kills the bacteria on the teeth, thus preserving them ? That is from the site. I could easily mouth off with "RTFA!", but I'll choose not to. So what if people who are officially considered "senior citizens" decide to do the smart thing and have any dental problems professionally taken care of; I think that attributes to their consideration of self-hygeine if anything. I just figured I'd end all of this unnecessary ridiculing of states of which you know nothing about the inhabitants. What are you people, Conan O'Brien's writers or something? - 0x00, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9I live on the border of West Virginia and Kentucky, settled down in the southeastern Kentucky city of Isom. I can attest to these statistics; a lot of people I know(many younger than 65) do in fact have teeth missing. These statistics reflect the relatively poor standards of this area. It's especially prominent in education. It's really sad that the majority of people that I knew in high school dipped Skoal and had no career goals other than simply working in a coal mine.
- p3ngu1n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5To be fair, you live in very, very Eastern Kentucky, where you either have a bunch of family money or you will work in a coal mine for the rest of your life. Hygiene is always going to be lower out in the country, as opposed to in a larger metropolitan area. Disclaimer: I live in Louisville now.
- da_bradler, on 10/12/2007, -9/+5lol got to love how all the bush states(except texas) are basicly all on the lower half of the scale, oh how I hate mid/south western states. viva canada!
- willcode4beer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2pollitical correlation isn't very scientific.
It appears that the states higher on the list are areas where more people (as a percentage) live in rural areas and drink well water. While those toward the bottom have a greater percentage of their population in urban areas drinking "processed" water from a municipal supply. This could be something as simple as simple as flourine. It could be something else.
It would be more interesting to find a list correlating people in states to flouridated water, tobacco use, alcohol consumption, diet, etc.

When Northern,Western Americans perish, your remains are no more different than mine! Just a note, some of the greatest minds have come from the south. I know there have always been sterotypes about this, but to me, assuming these statistics are accurate, proves the lack of teeth stereotype about southerners is true. That would make some of these comments you are detesting justified. This is one of those times where you could blame the messenger, for creating this list of statistics, fact or not, which would likely incite such comments.
- Aidenag, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7i lived in Alabama for 5 years(army brat).. then moved back to seattle in the late 80's.. Its not bigotry that makes us think alabama and the other southern states are hicks.. Its common sense.. These are states that ban sex toys..... oral sex.... and were BY FAR the last to catch on to the rest of the country for haste in adapting new technologies.. also these are the states with the highest dropout rates, lowest college degree numbers, and highest enlistment rates for the military...
Think that info removes about any bigotry.. and puts it more in the realm of realistic stereotypes.. just like southern people eat fatty foods, thats not bigotry, its common knowledge.. hell im still hooked on greasy, spicy foods from my time down there.. and my gut shows it lol..
Dont worry, youll catch up in time.. - lame_duck, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4I'll say it again for you retards.
DEFINITION: Adults aged 65 who have had all their natural teeth extracted.
That means we have alot of old people that get their teeth pulled. It does not mean we have no dentist, we are dumb, or we have bad hygen. We just have alot of old people with their teeth pulled. They usually do this to get false teeth.
Aidenag: Can you provide data of such states that have banned sex toys and oral sex? I know my state doesn't do that. Also, WV has a high rate of programers and technoloist. Of course when you compare it to "free thinker" heaven, or Califorina as we hicks call it, we look like idiot. Even a B52 bomber looks small compired to the Grand Canyan. - Popdmb, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1"Think Southern, Alexander Graham Bell was a Southerner after all!"

In other news...Researchers discover Graham Bell's first telephone was actually two 40's attached with a stern rope -- a revolution in trailer park communication. - willcode4beer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Maybe some of the stereotyping comes from Southerns constantly trying to exclude themselves from the rest of the country. Not all do it but, a majority do.
Being from the south, I'm sure you've seen the use of the word "yankee" in a derogotory manner. The word means American. By using it that way they are excluding themselves from the rest of the country. Many fly "Rebel Flags", this was the symbol used by those who fought a war (killing US soldiers) to break away from the rest of the country. Many claim that "the South will rise again" further showing their desire to break away from the rest of the country.
Maybe if more people in the South put more effort toward trying to be a part of this great country instead of trying to break away form it, and realize that the "stars and bars" is not the American flag there would be a lot less bigotry against the south.
Posted from Florida (BTW, the only state whose capital did not fall during the civil war)
- HouseofEl, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Ugh...Why did WV have to be #1. I've lived here all my life and it's hard to not have the stereotype pop up somewhere. We're not all rednecks. The problem is most of this is because of the massive number of poor people in the state. Honestly you go down south in the state and it's a ghost town. A lot of old coal towns that struggle to keep any sort of income. Even then the people can be the nicest folks you'll ever meet. There's just no money coming into that area of the state. Head north and there's all kinds of cash flowing in right now.
- timmarhy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8most of this topic consists of assholes from the northern states thinking due to their more wealthy postion they are better then southerners.
well think again, when i visited america i found southerns to be terrific friendly people, but as soon as i went as far north as washington DC i ran into nothing but asshats, and once i hit NYC i thought possibly all amercians checked their brains in at the stateline of florida, and contunied on north without them.

As for saying WV has a "High rate" of techies and programmers.. your talking to the wrong person! lol... i live within 20min drive of Microsoft,Boeing,Nintendo,Adobe,Amazon, and i live on the same lake that Bill and Jeff Do... My house alone has 5 diff wifi connections im capable of leeching from... and im in a resedential area on the lake.... people in my nieghborhood accually own segways, and Electric cars... my nieghbor uses Solar panels for 25% of his juice... We use Bio fuel for our diesel cars now... even got bio fuel pump down the street....

Just because we don't have Microsoft doesn't mean we arn't a tech state. It just means we don't have Microsoft. We have IBM and Dell tho so. Also, I live 2 seconds from a lake, fancy that.

There is a simple reason for these statistics --- there is less money in the south.
And since you are stroking you're ego , lets talk some more statistics.
Southern people are more likely to be poor, less educated ,black ( the whole slavery thing ), religious , "sexually repressed", racist, etc etc.
Despite these "facts" the south is still part of your country and "helped" to elect President Chimp.
so "BigBlack" the choice is yours, you could try to understand the realities of the south, or you could post a story that will get thousand of hits with a completely ignorant stereotypical description.
@ BigBlack why don't you apologize ?
as it stands you sir are a bigot.
and no, this has nothing to do with pride, this is about ignorance. Would someone have the gall to post a correlation between ethnic groups and crime or education ? No, that would be obviously racist - this is no different.- Aidenag, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2If your ganna play the race card, at least put into context the fact these statistics also include us northern liberals minority groups as well.. Also take note, one of the largest black communities in America is in Maryland.. and yet look at the great states Statistic.. O yea and as for the environment , we have these things called farmers markets where we buy "organic" food from VERY local and Very small farms - no pesticides, no fuel wasted on shipping, and the money goes directly from the consumer to the farmer - there is Nothing better for the environment than this practice. Many of the farmers still have thier teeth.
Please notice we are able to do this without the aforementioned corporations and all the VC money that they were built on and all of their current assets - its very easy to brag when you live in one of the richest regions in THE ENTIRE WORLD - its A BIT arrogant. " Hey you stupid poor kid from alabama ive got a segway! "

Graybot, you definatly need to visit a West Coast city, see how green we really are with things.. Most west Coast cities started recyling while you guys were using open fill dumps.. seattle started clean paper/glass and plastic in 1990... My current mayor is the one who got 55 cities in the country to follow the Kyoto Treaty even if bush wont...
We grow more crops than the South could dream of.. Washington state supplies the bulk of the worlds apples... all our bio fuel we make from our own crops.. and as for organic food.. we had local grocery chains selling purely organic only, almost 30 years ago LOL....
And of course your girlfriend is bisexual and likes to be sodomized.. she is from the South.. repressed women tend to be the friekiest and sluttiest of them all.. - jaybot, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Washington is also the world's largest exporter of Raspberries.
No joke. I just thought it interesting... OK, nevermind. - LCmidas, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I'm very ashamed of the comments in this article. No, I am not a Northerner. I am, in fact, from Louisiana, but we are all Americans together. Those of you from other regions of the country besides the South are giving diggers from other countries a very negative picture of our nation as a whole--not of the South, because your comments are obviously made to elicit laughs from your fellow Northerners rather than be insightful--but of how you treat those whose traditions deviate mildly from your own. At a stretch, it could even be an example of how discourteous your treatment is of the descendents of those you dominated through war (i.e., the Civil War) nearly 150 years ago.
In the South, I have seen blacks and whites living peacefully together, having children together (I have mixed-race family members who are the most beautiful children), working together, and--now--bearing the stigma of being Southern together.
In contrast, from multiple Northerners who have visited the South, I have heard firsthand remarks like, "There certainly are a lot of black people down here"--remarks said with distaste and surprise. Who is more racist? The white Southerner who works alongside the black Southerner, or the white Northerner who decries racism but has never even bothered to have a conversation with a black man, much less live on the same street as him?
Again, Northerners will accept any global accent and laud the heritage of its bearer, except the Southern accent. We are thought of as ignorant, uneducated, and worthless if we happen to speak with a drawl or a twang.
In fact, bearing this fact in mind, I have steadily killed off my own accent, knowing that it would harm my career should I ever leave the South.
However, that the rest of the country is so full of bitterness and discourtesy towards the South only fortifies my plan to go another country entirely rather than migrate northward. After all, they see us only as Americans and hold less prejudice against us for that than our own Northern countrymen do for our being born south of the Mason-Dixon. - lame_duck, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Tellum LCMidas. You know, without the south, the US would be up shizz creek without a paddle. Good luck finding people to dig your coal and defend your country in wimp states like California. "Ewww!!! I bring up race simply because people seem to think that if you have a southern accent you are a member of the KKK.
If you really wanna know, I think racial relations in the south are often much better than in the "blue states"
Why? well here you find less difference between rich and poor. In Charlotte, NC for instance it seems you are just as likely to run into a rich black, Hispanic, Asian, person as you are a very poor white person.
When you have all colors across socioeconomic classes it is a very good thing. It stops people from assuming things very quickly.
I have found that though that the richer a region is, the more likely they are to pat themselves on the back for being socially / environmentally conscious - look we just gave money to poor people ...yea ! ( O , and we are still really rich too )
This is all well and good but it is not reality. Reality is when you interacting with people doing everyday things. When I walk by a poor thug teenager be him white, black whatever.. there is very little tension - the south is poor.
If i walk by the same exact type of person in Boston/SF/LA/Baltimore etc etc , there is a palpable unease, because this interaction is not a daily occurrence.
Yes there is still alot of racism in the south, but on the whole I think our situation is better than the blue states where there is a much greater economic divide and the rich can seperate themselves from the poor.- jaybot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3You are right about racism in the north. Traveling throughout the country, the most racist areas in my opinion are rural Ohio and Indiana.
This statistic shows, too, that racism in america, as far as location is concerned, is mightily misunderstood:

- jaybot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The northwest is an exception. Go to Cincinnati, Chicago, Detroit, St. Louis - all 'Northern' cities and all very very segregated. Contrast that with Atlanta, the highest per capita population of Black millionaires in the country. I am specifically talking about the midwest, where segregation is still much the norm. Even in small towns - like South Bend Indiana - the west side of town is markedly poorer and Black, the eats side of town has all the leafy streets, big victorian houses, and of course Notre Dame.
I'm not really saying you guys are right or wrong, but it is complex, race in America, and many of the stereotypes we hold about the South are in fact just as true for many Northern states. - rezophonic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2As a resident of the northern panhandle of WV, I'd like to remind the rest of my state that we left the South to join the North in the Civil War.
...Maybe we should just leave WV to make a new state... North West Virginia anybody?
At any rate, I've had enough of this silly arguing for states. I have teeth, and I don't care to complain if people make fun of the rest of WV. I make fun of it, as well as all the rest of the states. Seriously, though, it seems we're on the verge of genocide... Except instead of being race based, it'd be geography based... Geocide?- lame_duck, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Yes, we did. Thing is tho, northerners are blind to that. To them we are still in the south. The way the north is looking now, I'd prefer it to stay that way. I'd rather be considered toothless and dumb than an elitist ahole.
- rguenthner, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Laugh all you want. I live in an area of the country with a robust economy, low unemployment rate, and a high rate of growth. The mountains are within 45 minutes drive and the beach is less than 4 hours drive. Our water is clean (we are the first to use it from the watershed), we get our energy from nuclear power, and we also reap the benefits of hydro power. Earthquakes, large scale floods, hurricanes, volcanic activity, windstorms, avalanches, mudslides and tsunami's do not reach us here. The worst of our fears from mother nature comes in the form of ice in the winter, with a tornado here and there in the summer. Housing is inexpensive, the food is good and the people are friendly. This is one of the best places in the country to live, and the secret is unfortunately out. Northerners and westerners have been moving here for years and our growth is increasing.
Do I have complaints? Sure - we are in the middle of the bible belt so we have blue laws, religious fanatics and our education system is ranked in the lowest 5. We all have our problems. If being one of the top 25 ranked states for people over the age of 65 with all of their teeth removed is one of my biggest concerns - I'll take it!- jaybot, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0which state is this?
- rezophonic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Excellent point about the natural disasters. Mountains are lovely, too, especially old enough ones that aren't dynamic enough to put you near any sort of fault line. I'd just like to add that the small and generally stereotyped population in addition to a bit of a lack of big corporations makes us less of a target for attacks on America. All and all a safe and happy place to not have teeth... And a happier place to have teeth, as far as I'm concerned.

"So if your thought process it indeed correct, and politics reflects the intelligence of the population, I would have to say that the Left is the one that is dumb and therefor does not care for themselves? Right?"
your comment doesn't make sense. politics reflecting the the intelligence of our country.. our country elected bush twice.. the man constantly lies and quite frankly isn't the most intelligent president our country has ever had.. in fact he is the worst president we have ever had. I don't see what the left has to do with this?
the republicans for the most part are intolerant and don't care that bush panders to health care companies and the pharmaceutical industry enabling them to hike the rates so they won't go get the medical Assistance they need. but they are all getting tons of tax money back. how much tax money are you getting tonage? it has to be several thousand right. I bet you could buy a new car just from the tax breaks. wait no.. unless you are in the upper class you probably don't see much.. that's a shame cause they promised you tax cuts right :( it is just ignorant to take a republican at their word.. now get over it. clear skies act, no child left behind.. it goes on and on and not a damn thing means what it says. - tonage, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is a story about tooth loss. You made it a cheap shot at whoever voted for Bush. Now you start rambling on about politics. Keep it on topic. We already know what you think of Republicans by your original post. We don't need more of your bias ramblings and leftwing talking points.
- allthewhile, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The real anomaly is, of course, Utah. I'm sure it has something to do with the Mormon diet. Just a guess, though.

1972 = 70%
2004 = 51% - Aidenag, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1yes utah is the fluke.. and you are right.. mormons are the reason..
for bieng a wierd(ok ill say it.. screwed up) religion.. they accually are out of all the christian religions, the ones who honestly act on what they preach.. and i give them much respect for it.. mormons may vote republican but you dont hear them cheering when we invaded iraq, or selling out thier enviroment for a few bucks and a nod from D.C... Minus teen birth rates, they are a leading example of what all the republican states hope for and say are the core values they hold closest to thier heart.. yet always fail at, or fully neglect - tonage, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1oops
- lame_duck, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Mormans =! Christian
