- aolshove, on 09/25/2008, -3/+12Old news but doesn't make it less awesome and amazing.
- NinjaBoy, on 09/25/2008, -0/+7If I had a nickle for every time.....well i would be making money in a very strange way.
- chadsterrr, on 09/25/2008, -1/+8eirily? rly?
- gailkim, on 09/25/2008, -0/+5I was really about to make a stupid Spongebob remark but looks like a few beat me to it.
- jeffkee, on 09/25/2008, -0/+4And if you had a cough up a nickel for each time you complained about such miniscule things about life you'd be needing that Federal bailout plan.
- Jareth86, on 09/25/2008, -0/+4Its going to take more than 15 cents to bail out wall street, I'm afraid. Nice effort though, Mrs. Palin
- KennedyFinsin, on 09/25/2008, -1/+5Cthulhu, you down there?
- Amadeus2490, on 09/25/2008, -0/+3Hiiiiiii Aqqqqquuuamaaaan!

You can see waves of it, amazing. - arcticblue, on 09/26/2008, -0/+3This does explain the beaches in Bikini Bottom.
- rheaume, on 09/25/2008, -0/+3I got a buddy Tony, hes from the Bronx, hes going to come and help you with that
- notperm, on 09/25/2008, -0/+3Saw this on Blue Planet.
Awesome. - KungFooJesus, on 09/25/2008, -0/+2Beautiful and discovered somewhat recently though several years ago. There is a good section of Blue Planet devoted to this curiosity narrated by Richard Attenborough and produced by the BBC. The DVD set is worth owning, though one should not operate heavy machinery after watching as it's so tranquil you're likely to fall asleep.
- bendeboy, on 09/25/2008, -0/+2more of what digg needs.
- ZogDog, on 09/25/2008, -1/+3Where's the redneck scuba diver jokes?
- citizenchan, on 09/25/2008, -1/+3Wait a second. Bigfoot rigged the 04 election...?
- jeffkee, on 09/25/2008, -0/+2A whole new meaning to the phrase "Blue Lagoon".
- erichw1504, on 09/25/2008, -1/+3I want to go fishing at the bottom of the ocean in a sea in a lake in a pond in a puddle in a drop of water in a water molecule.
- jmkiii, on 09/25/2008, -1/+3How would you drink your beer?
- jamwil87, on 09/25/2008, -1/+3Chill dude.
- merreborn, on 09/25/2008, -0/+2Make sure to bring your best bacteria-catching gear, 'cause that's apparently all you'll find there.
- inactive, on 09/26/2008, -0/+2It is just like Spongebob Squarepants! I knew that show was based in reality!
- yubpro, on 09/25/2008, -0/+2Too true. Not only were there several prominent spelling errors but the structure of the sentences was garbled and poorly thought out. I don't think I could coherently tell any of my friends about this "new-found" knowledge.
A shame, given the beauty of those photographs. - LtCarter47, on 09/25/2008, -0/+2It's just like that SeaQuest episode....
- SPRFRKR, on 09/25/2008, -1/+3Similar concept was in a GI Joe episode back in the day. Heavy water or somethin' like that.
- Someguy101, on 02/19/2009, -0/+2Yep, this doesn't just happen with high salinity levels in salt water. There's something else called a thermocline that's pretty common. It happens when two different temperatures of water form a layer of colder water below a warmer layer above. While scuba diving you can actually see it, similar to the shimmering effect of hot asphalt in the distance. You can be floating above and reach down and feel the water get colder, like putting your hand into a bucket of cold water except you're 50 feet down.
- Zera, on 09/25/2008, -0/+2"There is a good section of PLANET EARTH devoted to this curiosity narrated by DAVID Attenborough and produced by the BBC"
fixed. - charlietuna, on 09/25/2008, -0/+2Zoidberg / Cthulhu '08 !
http://deadlypancake.deviantart.com/art/Zoidberg-C ... - paintballing66, on 09/25/2008, -0/+1It is so hard for me to grasp the concept that I am looking at a separate body of water underwater in those first two pictures. What a cool article.
- boulderomen, on 09/25/2008, -1/+2Mind blowing, to say the least.
- Vidalsassgirlie, on 09/25/2008, -0/+1It's not about what you want. It's about what's fair!
- nadcraker, on 09/25/2008, -2/+3"Many people when asked what else they would find strange to discover at the bottom of the ocean wouldn't picture a lake"
WTF are you trying to say?! - Paranoidmarvin, on 09/25/2008, -1/+2The Bláa Lónið? The famous geothermal spa in Iceland?
I don't think it quite changes the meaning of that.... - jmkiii, on 09/25/2008, -2/+3What the hell is your problem
- barbaragordon, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1Blogspam. This is the original http://flowergarden.noaa.gov/image_library/brineim ...
- specter19, on 09/25/2008, -2/+3So it's like a extra salty part of the ocean that's underneath the regular ocean?
- twertyto, on 09/25/2008, -0/+1That was painful to read.
- jmkiii, on 09/25/2008, -1/+2*Gulf of Mexico
- SLockhart, on 09/25/2008, -1/+2And this is interesting why? Come on folks, we just learned yesterday that Lindsay Lohan is a carpet muncher and this nature crap is what makes it to the front page?
- frankb00th, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1Awesome phenomenon.
5th grade level writing - mandarin, on 09/25/2008, -1/+1"So the next time people talk about the briney blue you can use your new-found knowledge about brine pools and lakes to wow them"
Lol - KungFooJesus, on 09/25/2008, -0/+0that's right. They sound exactly the same, it's like they're related or something. :)
