Its time to stop the madness, folks! - yisforyeti, on 09/13/2008, -1/+60FTA: Conveniently, of the five cannabinoids tested by the researchers, the two most effective ones also happen to be nonpsychoactive, meaning that they cannot cause a high. "What this means is, we could use fiber hemp plants that have no use as recreational drugs to cheaply and easily produce potent antibiotics," says Appendino.
Just figured I'd highlight this before the morality police arrive. This is a really good article, and I would have dugg it anyway if it didn't also mention how research in this area has been stunted because of the controversy over recreational drugs. - bloodychicklet, on 09/14/2008, -4/+41Legalize it ... don't criticize it.
- kd420, on 09/14/2008, -1/+36The thing is that because cannabis is illegal, these studies aren't really taken seriously. We sort of keep them on the back burner until medical cannabis is fully accepted. This means that a lot of research is left undone because it will most likely not be used as a regular treatment. This whole criminalization thing is getting more and more ridiculous as further studies come out, and its a real shame, not just for the average user but also patients in need of treatment.
- Fhwqhgads, on 09/13/2008, -10/+40If weed was legalized and its benefits honestly reported in the mainstream media, Big Pharma would be doomed.
- aidave, on 09/14/2008, -4/+24Your statistics are meaningless to the brainwashed.
- chowda, on 09/14/2008, -1/+20that always confuses me... what does smoking of plants or inebriation have to do with morality anyway?
- Voide, on 09/14/2008, -4/+21Apparently, any problem in my or your life can be improved and/or cured with Marijuana.
I'm waiting for the marijuana fueled car, personally. - xtraa, on 09/14/2008, -2/+18But what about all the black men raping white women because they smoked marihuana?
//end of sarcasm - Oea420, on 09/14/2008, -1/+16??
http://www.hempcar.org/
already here buddy - chowda, on 09/14/2008, -1/+16I don't think they need to justify anything... they just need ridiculous drug "warriors" to mind their own business and leave people to their vice of choice.... non-violent drug users harm no one... it should be up to the prohibition supporters to justify their foolish stance on marijuana which seems like it's based on nothing more than 80 year old nonsense.
- stupidlefty, on 09/14/2008, -5/+20Marijuana: Is there anything it can't do?
- xturmn8r, on 09/14/2008, -1/+15I'm reminded of the H.L. Mencken quote, equating Puritanism with "the haunting fear that somebody, somewhere, may be happy".
- xtraa, on 09/14/2008, -3/+17DuPont sold enough Nylon since 1935.
Time to legalize hemp and forget about the c0ck-and-bull stories. - orph3us, on 09/14/2008, -1/+14Thats fine it's not for everyone... but there is no reason to impose your will/fear/insecurities about it on others. It should be legal and the choice to use it should be up to all of us as individuals with legitimate knowledge being taught about it to us. Because it is illegal, even medically (federal vs state) this information is not transparent. I agree, not everyone should use these drugs, if you have a past of mental illness or are going through a very stressful time, it is better to straighten yourself up first. Then again, sometimes it does give you a good perspective on how to fix your life :) .. Unfortunately that perspective is sometimes called a mental breakdown. They can be VERY useful, but are hardly pleasant and sometimes if the person rejects the experience, can lead to more severe mental illness.
- opitica, on 09/14/2008, -9/+22I LOVE WEED!
- borsaid, on 09/14/2008, -1/+12I wouldn't be surprised if sober driving killed more than stoned driving.
- zomgflamer, on 09/14/2008, -1/+12They dont give you surer powers like crack.
- wutimatang, on 09/14/2008, -1/+10How exactly would pharmaceutical corporations be doomed by this?
- WishItWerePaul, on 09/14/2008, -2/+11most things in life can be both good and bad for you. sane adults should have the right to decide for themselves.
because the bottom line is, the more we decide and do for ourselves the farther we're from being cattle. the more the government decides and does for us the closer we are to being cattle. - yisforyeti, on 09/14/2008, -1/+10"But this isn't about antibiotics. This is about a bunch of hippies wanting a legal way to get their fix."
Did you even read the quote I pulled from the article? - NotYourProdigy, on 09/14/2008, -1/+10Go to the bar, get mind-numbingly wasted, black out, punch someone, sleep with an ugly woman you've never met, then drive home with your soft beer belly. See how I can make your addiction look evil?
A pot head is someone who smokes everyday. That's irresponsible if you can't control yourself and give in to laziness. But believe it or not, most NFL and NBA players smoke it, and are a testament to hard physical training. Rap stars came from nothing to millionaires on it. They found cannabis in Bruce Lee's autopsy, Larry Brilliant cured small pox after his stint in SF during the summer of love. I could go on all day.
Freedom of choice, especially when it harms no one, is important to me. - zomgflamer, on 09/14/2008, -4/+13How dare you sir mock Heroin and Cigarettes!!! They go together like milk and cookies.
- roxgod666, on 09/14/2008, -1/+9I dugg him up cause i know someone will digg him down. KEEP THE BALANCE ALIVE!!!

Another fact stoners have been saying for years but people refuse to believe because they equate pothead perception with alcoholic perception.
Alcohol really is the only drug that frequently makes people *really* overconfident and *really* reckless. Most other drugs make you more cautious most of the time (in my experience anyway). I honestly believe that like 90+% of people who wreck or jump out of windows etc while high were mentally disturbed before taking any drugs.
Most people who drive high either get used to the experience and drive like any other driver or get excessively paranoid and drive like grandma (go really slow, put their blinker on 1 mile too soon and stop to call someone to pick them up if something surprises them). - Farik, on 09/14/2008, -0/+8O RLY?
- ileftfark, on 09/14/2008, -1/+91) Cannabis, while having some helpful properties that can be used in a variety of applications, is not a ***** panacea.
2) Big Pharma with their billions of dollars and countless lobbyists would have their grubby mitts all over this so fast you'd lose your buzz. A lot of this research is done by isolating chemicals or using processing techniques. They're not just lighting a honey blunt here.
I am for at least the decriminalization of marijuana as much as the next digger, but what you're positing is highly unrealistic. - NikoKun, on 09/14/2008, -1/+9Nothing to do with justifying addiction... because Marijuana is not physically addictive, it causes no chemical dependence at all! And no withdrawal symptoms, nothing comparable to that of alcohol or tobacco, certainly.
This is about the injustices of Prohibition, and the medical value that is lost because of it. Not to mention our personal rights over ourselves, in a free world.
Sorry that you've just grown up brainwashed... dumbass. - chowda, on 09/14/2008, -1/+9I nominate you for saddest comment on digg.
- sh4rkb1t3, on 09/14/2008, -2/+10Marijuana: the cure for everything.
/s - inactive, on 09/14/2008, -1/+9hemp and marijuana may very well be a gift from god
they have more uses than any other plants on the planet. industrial, religious, medical, recreation
the crime here is that its illegal, and millions of peoples are ruined over the war on drugs needlessly - chowda, on 09/14/2008, -2/+9right... because anyone who enjoys anything on any level worships said thing...
- inactive, on 09/14/2008, -0/+7-----------If someone can prove that marijuana has no impact on your ability to work or your desire to work,------------
Carl Sagan proclaimed to smoke pot almost daily.
I personally know professionals, lawyers, and a doctor, who smoke cannabis and they seem to be fine in their careers and family life. They don't drink much however, Hmmm...
I'm 32 years old, have a degree, work in the publishing and printing industry.
I'm married with 2 children, own my home (well me and the bank), own two cars and make about $45,000-$50,000 a year (household income is about $75,000).
I've an active PTA parent, and do volunteer work for a non-profit animal rescue organization, and play in a flag football league (and sometimes bowl in a bowling league).
I've smoked "weed" almost everyday since I was 17 and I don't drink or smoke cigs. But thanks for your misguided concern though...
Also, you know, the insurance companies make every smoker take a piss test pot smokers are unfairly denied jobs, then called lazy, not to mention the fact that legal sanctions against marijuana fuel a worldwide black market and pour money into gangs and criminal organizations, however, you are a mockingbird for govt. anti marijuana propaganda and you recite it so well
that I thought I would let you know your favorite movie, REEFER MADNESS is on google video. - inactive, on 09/14/2008, -0/+7It wouldn't cure everything as some are pushing. But it would cure a lot, and lower the need for national healthcare. But this would be bad for those who get rich off of the sick...
.. so it's unlikely pot will get far, right now. - solidus636, on 09/14/2008, -3/+9Keep him at +1, folks!
- inactive, on 09/14/2008, -3/+9Don't blame marijuana on stupidity please
- SheepBoy13, on 09/14/2008, -0/+6You sir, are a ***** idiot.
"Oh noes! Smoke that joint and you will try to eat babies and kill old people!!!" - feliks2, on 09/14/2008, -2/+8Yes, because weed would cure all manner of medical problems, from the flu, to cancer, AIDS, heartburn, allergies, limbs being blown off, mono, malaria, alzheimers, broken bones, etc.
- inactive, on 09/14/2008, -0/+5You're wrong. Smoking cannabis is the easiest way for a person to control the exact amount they need. Now "smoking" is certainly not healthy, but using a vaporizer has 0 negative health effects on the lungs.
Why take something nature made perfect and screw it up.?
Oh that's right MONEY. Seriously man........they will only let people use weed if they can control the money. Plain and ***** simple. It has NOTHING to do with whats best for the patients. - Khast, on 09/14/2008, -0/+5I know many people who use MJ, and I know a ton of people who drink. To be honest...I would rather be with the people who smoke. They are calm, cool and not as far out as the dumb propaganda ads make morons like you believe. Personally, I'd much rather Alcohol be banned, and Marijuana be legal.
But you know what? It wouldn't happen...many industries depend on the ban of Marijuana. Fuel industry, plastics industry, fiber industry...and many more. The longer they can keep the taboo...the better the profits. - inactive, on 09/14/2008, -0/+5Considering Cocaine works and Lipozene doesn't. Then Yes, yes it does.
- lendrick, on 09/14/2008, -1/+6Good call. You can't handle it, therefore *nobody* should use it. Or, here's a thought: take a little responsibility for your own actions, and let other people be responsible for theirs. Kthxbye.
- chowda, on 09/14/2008, -0/+5Next thing you know it will be "magic mold".. oh wait... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penicillin

- xtraa, on 09/14/2008, -0/+4Actually the reason they aren't taken seriously is because everyone knows this is about lobbying for a gainful way for companies to sell their substitutes.
