- Alphabet, on 10/12/2007, -9/+147makes sense. Ted haggard was gay, but was leader of a church against gays for over 20 years. Then there's Mark Foley who's had sex with a(several) underaged teen boy(s), and he was chairman of the House Caucus on Missing and Exploited Children.
- samharper, on 10/12/2007, -38/+126So how does that apply to my hatred of illegal immigrants?
(Digging me down doesn't answer the question).
Don't be mad that they're willing to work harder and for less money than you. You're just lazy. - ZenMojo, on 10/12/2007, -10/+89I agree that the study is accurate. I watched Brokeback Mountain last night and let me tell you, there was a significantly different circumferential response between seeing "Jen" and Ann Hathaway's ta-ta's and watching Jake Gyllenhaal take it up the poop chute from Heath Ledger. (Hint: I like boobies.)
Immature response aside, I think that may be at issue here. Men are heavily fraternized at early ages beyond simple "hanging out." Have you ever been in a locker room? There's a certain amount of weird homosexual ritualization that breeds in it a certain level of male-male intimacy. I think this creates a certain forced response in men. For many, they enjoy the sexuality of the interactions and adjust naturally to such displays by becoming accepting, or they convince themselves that their actions are not sexual at all and react violently to any hint of sexuality being introduced into the equation (openly). This is the old, "That doesn't make me gay" tune.
I had a roommate whose dad was assistant coach for my undergrad and he joked that, "Sure, I ***** a guy up the ass, but that doesn't make me gay...sure, we jerk each other off, but that doesn't make you gay." That's the sort of dialogue you get, and there is a certain amount of humor in those who are comfortable in their sexuality and there is a certain amount of violent indignance in those who aren't.
The homophobia doesn't come from the sexuality itself, since it is pretty much everpresent. These days, the cultish worship of the male form in the locker room, which itself mimics gay body culture, is just taken for granted in homosocial (not necessarily homosexual) bonding. The homophobia comes from the acknowledgment of the sexuality in these interactions, not the actual interaction.
It is important to remember that the homophobes in this experiment want to engage sexually with male subjects. They are not averse to homosexuality. To them, it is forbidden fruit, a sin, something they want to remove themselves from consciously because of the inadvertent positive feelings they have for it.
Homophobic males judge their maleness by the environment. An amount of arousal is accepted as long as the group does not define it as sexually "other." An amount of engagement is accepted as long as the group does not define it as sexually "other." What is not acceptable is the group of individuals who identify as homosexual, not the homosexual activity itself.

There is a difference between merely finding something unpleasant and HATING it. - NikoKun, on 11/03/2007, -2/+52When I was younger, I never really thought about this topic much... but in college, I made friends with a guy in one of my classes, he was a great supportive and helpful guy... Great morals, and great advice...
And then I found out he was gay, which didn't really bother me. He was a good person, and I had no need to fear or be mad at him.
Then I started paying more attention to those people that for religious reasons or not, protest gay rights, that oppose gay-marriages, and that would just rather kill everyone that was gay... And I can say, I've never really hated any kind of people in my life, except for them now... I suppose if I lived back in the day when blacks were fighting for their rights, I'd feel just as pissed at those shouting protesters that wanted to kill blacks... -_-
The hate in one thing or another that some people spout off... is... it embarases me that I'm the same species as these people.
Anyway, I did my best to help out my friend... He's had problems, from having his tires slashed, or spraypainted insults... a lot of it was caused by members of HOME... or other anti-gay groups... its like they stalk him... and sometimes its down right scary...
Even his parents hated him... before he flat out came out to them, they had him in 'treatment'... which consists of a 'counsler' yelling at him and making him feel horrible about himself, he would come to my place, and you could tell he had been crying from how bad it made him feel about himself... AND it was THAT 'treatment', that even made him suicidal sometimes... and he's not normally suicidal, Its just that 'treatment' did its best to convice him that he was a horrible nothing person, and made him want to die... T_T He's even gotten arrested at PEACEFULL protests, supporting gay marriage, just because he was there... -_- Not to mention even his religion said he was doomed to hell...
How does someone survive in such a world... He's a stronger person than I am, to have lived through all this so far...
Anyway, I admit, he'd ask me occasionally if I'd try dating another guy... and I would just decline that... but Honestly... I dont think I'd have that big of a problem with it... its just more of a matter of, if that guy was the right person or not... I suppose O_o... Still I'm happy being straight... But that doesn't mean I'm against it.
I don't really think those that oppose gays, have homosexual thoughts/subconcious whatever... I just think they are prone to be haters. lol Then again some people dont like gays, because they just think its creepy, and thats probably more the majority... But I still dont think they have the same thoughts as this article claims... lol
People just dont like things that are different... and some people will blindly follow anything in a dated, vague, teachings of a book written a long long time ago... Which should be updated to encompase more modern morals and acceptances. =/
Besides, homosexuality has been around for as long as life has... XD its been found to occure in animals, and heck, humans have been doing it since before recorded history.
Plus, why oppose something, that technically has no ill effects to those involved? It doesn't hurt those involve, either closely or distantly... no physical, and not mental, at least not when your accepting of the concept. but whatever...
I'd like to point people to:
http://www.bidstrup.com/marriage.htm
Which has one of the best arguements against anti-gay arguements. XD Because I can't rant long enough, and write such a good article.
Anyway rant over... - inactive, on 11/03/2007, -6/+55Like everyone has suspected all along, yes.

q: So how does that apply to my hatred of illegal immigrants?
a: Most of the worlds races were imigrants at one time or another, if your American you probablly hate them because your ancestors were imigrants.
So you may be a 10th generation immigrant. I feel for the poor Native indians, putting up will all you fat white immigrants - Indecision, on 11/02/2007, -1/+34Thing is, *all* porn looks ridiculous. If you're watching porn that arouses you, you don't notice how ridiculous it is, because that's not where you're focusing your attention. When the sexual arousal aspect is gone, though, you're able to more objectively see the terribly acting, the horrible excuse for a plot, and of course the ridiculous sounds, dialog, and facial expressions.
- inactive, on 11/03/2007, -7/+38Homophobes are angry because their penises want sex with men. Fantastic!
(My comment was written by an idiot.)
GnuTzu, yours was thoughtful and intelligent.
Of course, I think we all knew this a long time ago, didn't we? - kevogod, on 11/03/2007, -4/+28I've got such a raging clue right now.
- cpmcd2000, on 10/12/2007, -10/+35OMG - homophobes PWNED!
- ZenMojo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22Like eating meat on Friday, shellfish, pork, cheeseburgers, getting a divorce...
By the way, G-d hates you more for going uncircumsized than for sucking *****. Read the Bible, how often is butt-sex mentioned? Bestiality? Now check for having hood on the sausage...exactly.
(I'm being fairly facetious here, but you get the idea.) - reddevil3, on 11/03/2007, -3/+23(Sort of) proof:
-Ted Haggard, Mark Foley and probably lots of other republicans who haven't come out yet.
That "reverend" who goes around saying that God hates fags is probably gay too. - gonzoradio, on 11/03/2007, -2/+21There sure are a lot of anxious guys around here. Why so panicky, boys? Why so committed to the inaccuracy of the study? If it said the opposite, I'm sure you'd all be digging it. So - wanna share anything?
You don't need a study to know that anyone THAT wrapped up in someone else's private business has some kind of stake in it. Most normal people don't spend much time (if any) thinking about the sexual proclivities of people they aren't attracted to. - InfamousX241, on 11/03/2007, -4/+22Also, what kind of homophobes would EVER agree to having their penis measured as they are subjected to gay stimuli?
- saisumimen3, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21You know what they say: "The squeaky wheel wants to get greased".
The homphobic people are the ones who make the most noise about "the gay agenda". - CBTF, on 10/12/2007, -5/+20"I'm not homophobic myself (I just hate how most homosexual men act,)"
Then you're homophobic. - modiggs1976, on 11/03/2007, -1/+17Makes sense. I am attracted to women and I'm also afraid of them.
- 81v3d07g0d, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19For any of you that know of Dr Drew from Loveline you'd know he took part in a study that used a functional MRI to measure brain response to sexual material. This study ended up having a really surprising result. Males exposed to material that were homosexual in nature , had an immediate threat response as if they were being attacked. This response is visceral and not something these people could control, not only that but if you had asked any of them about there feelings on gays they would have said it wasn't a big deal to them. This study makes one wonder why there isn't more hate crimes against this minority.
Were as this study seems as if one might easily conclude that according to the other study that its results could be chalked up to the fact that when a person is stressed or threatened the blood flow to the entire body is increased, there by causing the tissues to expand. I know there are probably more than a few people repressing homosexual urges. but I think the above is a more accurate idea of what exactly goes on in the male brain.
- TrevorBradley, on 10/12/2007, -7/+22@atdigg:
I think that's kind of the point. People who feel that level of hatred often do have some common attribute.
If something is very very bad, I often feel very sad, but it doesn't drive me into a hateful rage.
Can you come up with a counterexample of a person who hates but doesn't have some sort of personal connection?
Try looking deeper, there may in fact be something there. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16That rev just needs a hot steaming injection of gay faith batter.
- kapsar, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19@cwalk
You're misunderstanding the quote. What you hate about hitler is the capability of doing evil in yourself. If you don't have some of that in yourself you wouldn't be able to understand them to hate them. If you don't hate some one like Hitler then you are truly not a bigot. - liah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13By that logic, stealing a penny candy and murdering 20 people are on the same level.
- TrevorBradley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Nah, probably just their leader. Look around for the angriest anti-gay person in a homophobic mob. *THAT'S* the gay person.
- tenken, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17@WalkingDead: Wow, so they're evil, end of story? That really leaves lots of room for a debate. When did you learn to be so gosh darned open-minded?
By the way, equating homosexuals with pedophiles? That's original. Of course no one would see a difference between consensual sex between same sex adults and forcing children into sexual acts. The two are completely the same right?
Please don't ever procreate. We need humanity to be enlightened in the future, you should just make things easy and go eunuch. We thank you in advance. - javip, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15no, it makes you gay
- CBTF, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Thank you very much for that link. Perhaps i'll forward that one around, more people should read that.
- Dundasbro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13You win this thread good sir, we need more people like you in the word
- brianjameskirk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Thank you very much for that comment. The link is just a bonus.
- cwalk, on 10/12/2007, -35/+47That quote is contradictory and doesn't make sense.
Example: I am not allowed to hate Hitler for his crimes against Jews, but I am only allowed to hate him because he also happens to be a person?
Give me a break. - refreshments, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Honestly, the whole marriage thing doesn't appeal to me. I'd rather a union, for the simple fact that I'm not a member of the judeo/muslim/christian faiths.
The "rights" I'm asking for are the "rights" that heteros get for their unions.
I should be able to make decisions for my partner in the event that they are unable to, such as medical issues.
I should not be forced to testify against my partner in a court of law if I choose not too
I should be allowed to provide a financially stable home for my children*
I should be able to receive the same tax benefits as heterosexual couples
I should be allowed to practice my sexuality consensually in the privacy of my own home without being deemed a criminal (referencing anti-sodomy laws)
I should be able to live in a place where being attacked for being who I am is viewed as a hate crime, in many states to this day, there is no inclusion of "sexual minorities" or "sexual identity" in anti-hate laws
I could go on, really.
Marriage is state regulated, by the way. When one is married in the church, they still need to get a STATE marriage license.
*who, by the way, I intend to raise heterosexual, allowing them to make up their own minds on who they want to be with at such a point in their life when it is appropriate - atdigg, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18This reminds me of American Beauty....
- CBTF, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15"They will skew things to win support. I know this."
You may want to see a doctor if you really think homosexuals have an agenda. No seriously, that type of paranoia is not healthy.
And please, explain how homosexuals want Christianity banned. You're just pulling that out of your ass, and looking quite insecure as you do it.
You disgust me. - TrevorBradley, on 11/03/2007, -1/+13If you consider the possibility that a great many more of us are bisexual than anyone wants to believe, and that society conditions us to believe that one is either homosexual or heterosexual, and add into the mix that people probably have much more homosexual thoughts than they'd like to admit and that society trains us to hate homosexuality, no wonder there's so much anger and hate.
We're being taught to secretly hate ourselves. Without being dealth with, that leads in two directions: depression and suicide, or turning that hate outwards and onto others. - atdigg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14What kind of homophobes would EVER agree to watch gay movies? (even for a study)
- CBTF, on 11/03/2007, -1/+12This is no surprise. The only people i've ever seen that are homophobic seem to be hiding something, almost putting up a front.
The homophobic people will just deflect it off their bubble though. That's what they do. - luchid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11I'd give you a million thumbs up if I could. Wish more straight people were like you.
- 60days, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Jesus, you guys are literal. The quote doesn't mean 'if you hate x you are an x' - it means the qualities you ascribe to those you hate are often those you fear/hate in yourself. For example, if you hate immigrants/black people/gay people because you think they are sexually out of control/scheming/selfish/full of hate, then those may be the qualities you subconsciously recognise and dislike in yourself. Everyone rationalises their hate, its that rationalisation that speaks to a persons character.
Also, hate is a very specific word, and a lot of people here are applying it to everything they dislike. I don't think anyone here actually 'hates' hitler. I think theres a strong dislike, and a cultural condemnation, but I doubt anyone here under the age of 60 sits at home stewing over 'that damn hitler'. - Indecision, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10"So get back to me when the majority of homosexuals don't act and sound like hate filled. Genocidal Nazi's."
That's an interesting statement for you to make, considering that homosexuals were rounded up into Hitler's concentration camps along side the Jews. This is, in fact, the origin of the "pink triangle" symbol, which they were forced to wear in the camps (there were other colors for other groups, such as yellow for Jews, and brown for Gypsies). A Star of David formed by overlapping yellow and pink triangles identified Gay Jews, and meant an almost certain brutal death. Brutal even for a concentration camp.
But I'm not saying this for you, siszam. You've made up your mind, and I know you're too stubborn to even consider other viewpoints. But I hope someone else finds the information interesting. However, if you honestly believe in the "gay agenda," you seriously need to get your head checked. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11@hatestation "I hate North Korea because they refuse to cooperate with the United Nations. Does that mean I secretly don't want any cooperation with the United Nations?"
Do you hate the US too, because the US has about as much respect for the UN as North Korea does, possibly a lot less. - TrevorBradley, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14@cwalk, you've got that backward.
It's more like: If you hate Hitler, then you secretly hate yourself.
Hypothetically, maybe you expressed some sort of anger towards the Jews or some other minority earlier in your life (kids do that kind of ***** all the time) and then resent it and become a more vocal opponent later in life.
That's not to say self hatred is at the root of all outwardly directed hate. He could have killed your great grandfather. Or perhaps you go as far as treating all people as true equals and feel hatred to someone who has done a wrong upon you.
Personally, I despise Hitler's actions, but returning his hate accomplishes nothing. I would have been content with him in a nice padded cell, removed from society forever. - joshafina, on 11/03/2007, -1/+11Does this mean that everyone in Westboro Baptist church is gay?
- maestroh, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13yeah i dont believe it either. seems convenient that EVERY SINGLE homophobic person was aroused by the gay porn.
- CanceledCzech, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14You're not funny.
- Murphy71984, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I love the fact that no one even seems to be gay on digg. Fine, I'll be the first. I'm gay.
- ZenMojo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Actually, you'll find that most people who like sticking it in the stink do so because it's tighter than the pink. Not overly complicated.
- pauleku, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13yup.
interesting still that more people dont mind lesbians (like on tv, etc) as opposed to gay men...(which is soooo taboo). Proves men run hollywood. - unknownunknowns, on 11/03/2007, -8/+16I watched some gay porn to see what my reaction would be. I just couldn't stop laughing. Does the same apply when gay men watch straight porn? Do heterosexual facials make gay men crack up? Will someone please do a scientific study on this?
- gonzoradio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8@popfrog -
Get your facts straight. A 1992 study by the National Institutes of Health found 11 heterosexual pedophiles for every one gay pedophile -- about the same ratio as non-pedophile straights to gays. So no, most pedophiles are NOT homosexual. The vast majority are as straight as you. -
