- avocadobeandip, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3711. The Downfall of Digg
Sometime between late-2006 and mid-2007, Digg was irrevocably changed forever. While it didn't happen overnight, interesting tech and news articles were slowly replaced with "Look at this picture!" posts as well as the spamming of blogs (which is an even further mystery - Why don't people just submit direct links?). The front page was soon inundated with duplicate articles, Best. Picture. Ever.s, and failed to resemble it's prior incarnations in any way, shape, or form. Then, simple headlines and descriptions disappeared. All of a sudden, everyone was either a comedian or the Comic Book Guy. But they were all atheists that voted for Ron Paul.
Even more troubling though, was that the simple comment system had to be adapted, as comment threads became a forum for inside jokes, pop-culture references and constant bickering. It became nearly impossible to wade through the muck to find intelligent responses and thought-out contributions to an interesting article.
All of this raises a larger question: When did digg become Fark? - Piedramente, on 10/10/2007, -1/+34I enjoy watching documentaries about these types of mysteries.
- alexkim804, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17does anyone else think #2 and #4 in the story might be related
- EmperorAwesome, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17I love it when people grab for praise by pointing out the fact that they understand a reference.
- Rikkochet, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14How hot does muslim outrage burn?

- ericdano, on 10/10/2007, -3/+816. You allowed to go on the internet
17. You allowed to post on Digg - kronix2, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5That was a damn interesting read. The passage on the Indus Valley Civilization was especially interesting; "Strangely, there is no archaeological evidence of armies, kings, slaves, social conflicts, or vices prevalent in ancient societies."
Wikipedia says the civilisations lifespan was between 3300 BC and 1700 BC. It's hard to imagine a 4000-year-old civilisation which lacked all of the above. - HBNDonut, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I'd like to know why the wires on my headphones always end up in a tangled mess when I set them down on a table.
- Nick22, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4ya we read what you said the first time
- hasansexy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I actually logged in just to dig you down.
- SpaceForRent, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4While I am biased being a Bluenoser... I think Oak Island deserves to be on this list. There is definitely something down there, whether or not the retrieval attempts have destroyed it.

- rac3r5, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Interesting stuff...
From what I have read about the easter island stuff, a bunch of then taken as slaves by Europeans. The elders/higher ranking people who were literate were also taken. A number of them died, and some of them were returned back to the island, but the people who were literate were dead.
As for the Indus valley, it has been suggested that there was probably a flood that killed all these people or possible the Aryan invasion into India that caused their demise. - DexDoomsday, on 10/10/2007, -5/+8Those were pretty good...he left off the "greatest" mystery of all...where did I leave my keys?

it's actually not that bad, considering that it still is a documentary on atlantis, but there's a different approach. it's nothing like those docs on wackos actually searching for a lost continent under the sea, or those sick bastards who say that atlantis was actually mars (keep away from jordan maxwell and michael tsarion, they're either lunatics or really really nasty charlatans).
had read about the voynich manuscript, but all those other mysteries were unknown to me. this is a good page for checking out documentaries http://best.online.docus.googlepages.com/ - whickywhickyjim, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I've got a pretzel in my head!
- mal1964, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Thank you, I would not know with out was one word without you.
- NSMike, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I never said he didn't know what they were, and his connection of the swastika to the name for an Asian civilization would be pretty incredible if he didn't know who they were, don't you think?
- sabach, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2No problem, always here to help.
- mal1964, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2And people that correct my spelling

- garvallagh, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Read RANT by Chuck Palahniuk.... all will be revealed.
- benjaoming, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I had a personal introduction by a history ph.d. who referred to this as the invention of communism :) He was totally convinced of the fact that these people lived in social equity, as there was evidence that every home was the same and all sanitary installations were abundant for everyone.
Also, I visited the Indus Valley... which is one of the most beautiful places on earth. - dorshorst, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1thought it was like craked, you know the same comment spread on 11 comments
- Lone1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1the only evidence that he is caucasian is that some people see a caucasian face in the reconstruction of his head. An actual study on his bones show him to be more similar to pacific islanders than any other group. What this suggests to me is that there were many people able to tranverse the oceans before the native americans showed up.

- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I got hearty lulz from the amount of people who made coy references to 9/11.
Anyways, I wish I had a copy of that manuscript. :( - StoverDaniel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0When we were told that by freedom we understood free enterprise, we did very little to dispel this monstrous falsehood. Wealth and economic well-being, we have asserted, are the fruits of freedom, while we should have been the first to know that this kind of ''happiness'' has been an unmixed blessing only in this country, and it is a minor blessing compared with the truly political freedoms, such as freedom of speech and thought, of assembly and association, even under the best conditions.
- VeryBoredNow, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Nikola Teslas fault... belive it.
- connor0314, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0very interesting list. you learn new things every day
- nekt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Don't forget the never ending Apple press releases.
- mabbasc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0representing the country of Indus Valley Civilization to the fullest
- Misanthropica, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0The Caucasian mummies in China is not a mystery and at worst its a clever fraud that relies on ignorance of history and geography. No Caucasian people were mummified in China 2,000 years ago because the Tarim Basin wasn't part of China 2,000 years ago. The Tarim Basin was called East Turkestan back then. The region was conquered relatively recently by the Qing Dynasty. The region is so far beyond the Great Wall that its laughable to say it was part of China 2,000 years ago, its Central Asia not East Asia. Its also no mystery who they were, they were Scythians since the mummies have Scythian designed tattoos. Its also no bigee that Scythians were in Central Asia, like thats where they were supposed to be, no mystery.
