- Zaggynl, on 11/04/2008, -3/+43Of course they're different, duh.
- Trekhawk, on 11/04/2008, -9/+37But of course, while the male brain generally excels with spacial and mathematical tasks the female brain is more adept at sammich makin'.
- lekahe, on 11/04/2008, -5/+23Where does androgyny fit in this. I am a woman, had two children without no difficulty, but in many tasks my brain works like men's. Also I lack many of the female brain characteristics...
Generalisations are bad for instance if they are used in teaching. I am totally against the "women can't do math" - theories! - Rudegar, on 11/05/2008, -1/+16it's statistics
not a claim that no woman can do math
or every man is better then every woman - Surferess, on 11/04/2008, -1/+16I feel better knowing I have a lot of white matter, whatever that is.
- PeachCobbler, on 11/04/2008, -1/+15Without no difficulty, eh?
- mikeoncampus, on 11/05/2008, -5/+18Yes. Woman have a small brain, a brain the third the size of ours. Its science...
- sougly, on 11/05/2008, -0/+12Take this article with a grain of salt, guys. There are a lot of studies referenced here, but they don't tell you exactly how the conclusions were drawn from the studies.
For example. The study from Haier that claims men and women have different amounts of gray and white matter but have the same intelligence (on the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale).
This is misleading. The actual study is that they selected men and women as subjects who ALREADY have the same intelligence. The goal of the study was to show that men and women have different amounts of gray and white matter to ACHEIVE the same scale.
You can't draw from this controlled sample to represent men and women in general.
This tidbit is not mentioned in most articles on the studies, but if you search around, you can find it.

- RobotBuddha, on 11/05/2008, -0/+7I don't think you have a very solid understanding of experimental methodology.
- Genecalypse, on 11/05/2008, -2/+9Its called a penis.
- OneNaturalOne, on 11/05/2008, -0/+7That is true when you look at it from the outiside...but...
Why do you think men try to control things? Why do you think they make businesses, inventions, buildings, and accomplish things in general?
First you get the money, then you get the power, then you get the women. It's all to get the women.
It's really just women behind the scenes pulling our strings like a puppetmaster. - gogog0, on 11/05/2008, -0/+5thats one of the most ignorant things i have ever heard. lets throw all forms of behavioral science out the window because organisms are different at an individual basis, GENIUS!!

- WoollyMittens, on 11/05/2008, -0/+5commentposted took 4 hours and 20 minutes to figure that out. :)
- Halotosis, on 11/05/2008, -2/+6Yes, women and men have different brains... though they can both function at the same level. It's been proven that while men and women can both accomplish the same thing (like a math problem), they use different pathways in the brain to do it. Why, we are not totally sure, but we accomplish the same task using different parts of the brain.
Now, here's something interesting. We all start out as women. Yep, in the womb, we all start out as women. It's only after the development of the testes and the surge of testosterone that results that we differentiate. In the male brain, the testosterone seems to destroy parts of the communication/social regions replacing them with aggression related regions instead.
Of course, some men have more feminine brains and some women have more masculine brains. We're all different, no two brains function exactly the same way. - hansk, on 11/05/2008, -0/+4our science is better than theirs!
- hungryfoolish, on 11/05/2008, -0/+4My favourite line from the article:
"As it turns out, it may be better to turn to neuroscience rather than to Cosmopolitan magazine to figure out what's going on inside that guy's brain." - commentposted, on 11/05/2008, -0/+4It's been a while since I've read the full article on digg. It's actually, you know, interesting and informative. Dugg.
- WoollyMittens, on 11/05/2008, -0/+3Hormones live in salt-lake city and can have more than one wife.
- littlelindsay, on 11/05/2008, -1/+4As a woman (or little girl), I certainly feel more apt to give birth to and care for a child than build a shelter. On the other hand, I would say it's somewhat presumptuous of you to say that women "depend" on man, though that may just be mincing words.
There are obvious difference between men and women, though it seems that they are co-dependent. After all, how could men continue the species without us women? ! - littlelindsay, on 11/05/2008, -0/+3Ah, you bring up a good point!
..Not.
While these things are certainly true in today's "Westernized" world, it may do you some good to take a look at various other cultures and time periods. American Indians are a good starting point to counter your argument that women are predisposed to a lesser life position than men.
Also, you wouldn't be around to "shape the world" in such an enlightened way without your mother. - FishHammer, on 11/05/2008, -4/+7every single person on this planet is different. that's what I hate about these stupid studies and statistics. There are so many men and so many women that act completely different from eachother, are dumber or smarter, enjoy different things regardless of gender or race. but these studies only take into account the few people that were guinnea pigs.
- mahadiga, on 11/05/2008, -0/+3From the article:
"Men also have approximately 6.5 times more gray matter in the brain than women, but before the heads of all the men out there start to swell, listen to this: Women have about 10 times more white matter than men do [source: Carey]. This difference may account for differences in how men and women think. Men seem to think with their gray matter, which is full of active neurons. Women think with the white matter, which consists more of connections between the neurons. In this way, a woman's brain is a bit more complicated in setup, but those connections may allow a woman's brain to work faster than a man's" - gogog0, on 11/05/2008, -3/+6why is this being dugg down. women have evolved over time to fit different roles than men. It's funny how so many people seem to be supporters of Dawkins but when you bring up the point that there are inherent differences between the genders (a simple sociobiological and evolutionary psychology fact) they call you a sexist and fight you?
- inactive, on 11/05/2008, -0/+3But now that the internet has been created (by men) and porn is available in all shapes and sizes, the productivity of men is going to be severely decreased. Expect more women.
- WoollyMittens, on 11/05/2008, -0/+2"You are all unique individuals!" - Yeah fine... now go work in that cubicle until we tell you to die.
- kirado4, on 11/05/2008, -1/+3Yeah unfortunately science doesn't really back up women having any better brain skills than men..(sorry but the female language and nurturer thing.. it's just a stereotype. the language centre in the male brain is smaller "over all" than in a woman's brain.. but a male brain is bigger.. thus making the language centres exactly the same size.. science is a bitch when it comes to killing false ideas people use to justify there sexism ) Men can do all but one thing as well woman.. and we all know what biological feature that is. The good news is that you can learn any skills you may not naturally be good at.. if you practice. But you have to work at it. That goes for men and women.
- AtraNoxVII, on 11/05/2008, -0/+2Ok maybe I'm the only one who noticed this but...it's an American article...but the picture shows a couple where the guy is driving but he's on the right side which means European car. I sense a conspiracy.
- AtraNoxVII, on 11/05/2008, -0/+2I think you mean Mor...nevermind.
- fx666, on 11/05/2008, -1/+3It is easy to say that the male and female brains have different structures without specifying what the differences are. Are these alleged differences statistically significant or not? The fact that some men have strong mathematical abilities does not mean much because more men than women are majoring in science and engineering because it is hard for a woman to make a career in male-dominated fields. Some male chauvinistic pigs use social stereotypes to advance their non-scientific theories of male dominance (surprise, surprise!).
"But of course, while the male brain generally excels with spacial and mathematical tasks the female brain is more adept at smirch ma kin'"
This idiot with a peanut-size brain got 13 diggs, but a male physicist with excellent mathematical abilities like myself is certain to get plenty of negative responses for saying the unpleasant truth. Here is another example of discrimination, this one is based on race -- some white psychologists believe that African Americans have extremely low average IQ, which contradicts all scientific data
I am Caucasian who knows how to correctly interpret statistical data, and I say that these pseudo-scientists are dead wrong. - cheeseplease, on 11/05/2008, -0/+2@garths:
That actually IS a statistic, even though the sample is small. - gkiltz, on 11/05/2008, -0/+2Men and women CAN learn EXACTLY the same things!
What's very different is the WAY you have to go about teaching it to them. They learn very differently, but, if you teach the way each one learns, you can teach them the same things. Also, some things that come right away to women, such as nurturing, take a little longer in men. Some things like the interaction of moving parts, that come quicker, seemingly instinctively, in men take longer in women! - tolgafiratoglu, on 11/05/2008, -0/+2yes, like your mother.
- fx666, on 11/05/2008, -1/+3And Chinese people are the monkeys without human emotions. How does it feel being stereotyped? This is not my idea of Chinese culture, I believe than all people, including the women, are created equal, but there is plenty of white Americans who have a perverted view of Chinese psyche.
- Georgy, on 11/05/2008, -9/+10This may be a very sexist way of thinking but i've always believed women were meant to depend on men and give care to children......
- GoatMonkey2112, on 11/05/2008, -0/+1Of course not. We obviously all have one collective brain. duh!
- riptor666, on 11/05/2008, -2/+3The male brain runs on logic and reason, the female brain on the other hand I have no clue.
- kernel16, on 11/05/2008, -0/+1Worst photos ever used in a "ZMOG MEN N WOMEN HAVE DIFFERENT BRAIN STRUCTURE NOOWAI," article.

- CheekyGeeky, on 11/05/2008, -0/+1of-course, for instance, women don't have any socket in their brain for the d**k input.
