- alana13, on 07/07/2008, -1/+6i did a research paper on this a few quarters ago. this is amazing news, but it's definitely not "new" news.
- username7410, on 07/08/2008, -1/+2Correct, it happened many thousands of years ago... so, yes, it's not "new" new.

- kambiz, on 07/09/2008, -0/+2I know it has been submitted to the news section of Digg, but this sort of content in Scientific American is considered a review piece -- where the author summarizes lots of current research much like your research paper did Alana.
- known, on 07/09/2008, -1/+1Isn't mtDNA same for all human beings?
- kambiz, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1No, mtDNA is not the same for all human beings. mtDNA has regions that are 'hyper-variable.'
- juliehardman, on 07/07/2008, -6/+5Article too long. What can I say I'm lazy!
- Memnochxx, on 07/09/2008, -3/+3Hasn't this been done already?
- phunlee, on 07/09/2008, -4/+3I don't know if it was this study (b/c it's 6 pages long) but one of these studies found out (in theory) that Genghis Khan fathered most of Asia and eastern Europe.
KhaaaAAAAAaaaaannnnn!!!! - nroose, on 07/09/2008, -8/+1I always thought this was kinda hokey. They are making many assumptions that have little basis in anything that I would consider science.
- Niallgriff, on 07/09/2008, -2/+13suck on facts, fundies!!!!
- TetchyTony, on 07/09/2008, -0/+7The original is better (if big, and slow today). Maps at Figure 4 are particularly interesting, if you can work out where the arrowheads belong

- soxitauditor, on 07/21/2008, -0/+0I have my full DNA results showing direct connection to haplogroup R1b Artisans. Read about in my blog karlreidartist.wordpress.com - Peace Karl
- flashgordonweb, on 07/24/2008, -0/+0This is interesting, although we have to remember there is a difference between biological affiliation and cultural affiliation.
