- MrPillowPants, on 05/18/2008, -1/+15I was diagnosed with Migraines as a child. I lived with it until last year, when a AVM exploded in my head. I had to have brain surgery to remove it, and ever since then no headaches. But I got a killer scar on my head for all the trouble.
- lamiaconfitor, on 05/18/2008, -0/+11scary story, doctor are very quick to dismiss things as migraines. :(
- bamafun, on 05/18/2008, -0/+8i hope this works - it would be great news for a friend of mine =)
- 2geeksinapod, on 05/18/2008, -0/+7OMFG! YES! Hurry and get that thing perfected. I would pay mad cash to have something like that to stop my migraines. It would save me money in the long run. Prescription migraine medication is expensive.
- p51d007, on 05/18/2008, -1/+6Hope this works out, but now I see kids in the basements of their homes screwing around with crap like this and blowing their brains out with magnets.
- lamiaconfitor, on 05/18/2008, -0/+5I remember my first migraine, I had a classic 'zig-zag aura.' I freaked out, I thought I was having a hallucination, or I was going crazy, only crazy people see things that aren't there, right? then I had the massive headache. it would be very nice to avoid the pain with an inexpensive (presuming the price does fall with wide use.) therapy! kudos to science geeks! they've (almost) done it again!
- lamiaconfitor, on 05/18/2008, -0/+4Maybe you missed the point, they aren't talking wearing magnetic bracelets on your arms like b.s. snake oil salesmen and hippies in vans sell. RTFA
- moocow1452, on 05/18/2008, -1/+5I just watched Lawnmower Man yesterday, so forgive me if I'm aprehensive of anything that can connect to my noggin.
- GanjaGirl, on 05/19/2008, -0/+3I've had migraines since I was a little kid, before I can remember. They've always been really severe. I haven't had one in quite a few years however...thanks to marijuana. I think more research should go into that, because I haven't had a single migraine since I started smoking.
- inactive, on 05/18/2008, -0/+3Hope it won't replace migraine with brain cancer.
- Bersy, on 05/18/2008, -0/+3Migraines can be avoided by staying away from triggers such as e250 which is found in many food products. If you get the kind where you see zigzag lights before the headache occurs, cover your eyes or put some sunglasses on.. Avoid bright light, drink some water and relax, and you might not get the headache.
I am saying this from experience.. the last 2 times I've had aura I've avoided the headache altogether, and the other times, I got it from eating trigger foods especially around the time of air pressure changes. - raintheory, on 05/18/2008, -1/+3I suffer from frequent (3-4 a month) migraines... Here's my take:
Let's see, crazy electro-magnetic device shooting magnetism directly to my brain...
or
LSD (Supposedly effective at sub-hallucinogenic levels)
Well I know which one sounds more fun. And also potentially more enlightening/
(Does anyone have good links to LSD/Migraine research? I've heard of it but not found many articles.) - oldgal, on 05/18/2008, -0/+2Check your blood pressure. Since I have been on blood pressure meds, my migraines have disappeared. Had a neurosurgeon recommend pot off the record. It does help if you use it before the pain starts.
- Spacejack, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1Incorrect. Migraine is a neurological condition. The fact that women sling the word around without diagnosis every time their head hurts a little is a problem for those of us who actually suffer from the condition. Thanks for buying into their misuse of the term.
- parkernicky50, on 05/18/2008, -1/+2nice post
- mathwizkid, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1Did a quick search and found this on wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Migraine
"18% of women and 6% of men report having had at least one migraine episode in the previous year". That's a lot of people that could be helped here. - o0joshua0o, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1Sounds promising, but Is it really safe to send an electrical current through your brain?
- DCGaymer, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1Asuming it works, I wonder if they'll be able to make it travel sized?
- hiscity, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1Imagine all the stoners that will be buttin' their heads against woofer magnets!
- hwy9nightkid, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1Strong enough for me, but made for a women..?
Migraines suck, guy or girl - diggit08, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1calm down alice.
- krewl, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1I halted my migraines with low doses of psilocybin.
- hwy9nightkid, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1I suffer from these daily, and yes it does stop you from working/talking/living
- capellathestar, on 05/23/2008, -0/+1" DIY" and "brain therapy" should never be seen together in one sentence.
- Spacejack, on 05/18/2008, -0/+0I hope you're not talking about Cafergot. That stuff is awful... but it might be old news by now (I HOPE)
- Spacejack, on 05/18/2008, -1/+1Nothing on LSD that I know of, but cannabis is strong against migraine. Relaxes the spasming arteries in the forebrain.
- Spacejack, on 05/18/2008, -0/+0For me, the "auras" are the primary problem. Head pain I can live with... being partially paralyzed and blinded is a little troublesome.
- scozzie, on 05/20/2008, -0/+0Don't know what to make of it.
I suffer from Migraines, but taking Sandomigran every day has reduced migraines from 3-4 a month to 1 every 6 months.
And if I do get one, I take Immigran nasal spray (sumatriptan) and the migraine is gone within 30-45 minutes. - swizzcheez, on 05/18/2008, -1/+1Ummm... how much voltage/current? So it stimulates parts of the brain? What happens if you run it through the wrong part of the skull? Could it be a new way to get high without all the nasty needles, chemicals, and jail time?
This seems a little too close to electro-fun therapy for my tastes. - TheDiggAbides, on 05/18/2008, -2/+1Tesla therapy
- MrPillowPants, on 05/18/2008, -3/+2Yes it is. If only the doctor would of sent me in for a CAT scan, and MRI. Then I wouldn't of had to go through 6 months of rehab from the 2 strokes I had on my left side, from the brain surgery.
- lamiaconfitor, on 05/18/2008, -3/+1yeah, because that was a documentary.
- gkiltz, on 05/18/2008, -4/+1Or not!
I COULD be rich and famous!
There ARE effective drugs now that are not simply pain killers, that actually treat MIGRAINE and not just pain!
They ARE by prescription, and have solid track records, so, the side effects they do have are rare and well-documented! They outperform any sort of "Alternative Medicine" when used correctly! - diggit08, on 05/18/2008, -11/+3Migraines are for women.
