Several New Metals Discovered in San Francisco
Giant leaps were made in metalurgy today in San Fransico. An aged Scottish man entered a local design firm (who for patenting reasons wishes to remain unnamed) and disclosed methods by which several new metals could be produced. Reports say that the man attempted to speak first to the computer screen - and failing that, to the mouse. After being introduced to the keyboard he produced the physical specifications for something he called "transparent aluminum".
Sources say that the man left after obtaining several tonnes of this new material. As he left he was seen speaking into a thin cellular phone - he has been quoted as saying "Captain, there be WHALES here!" - randomvictim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Maybe if he plans on rusting extremly fast and reacting with everything he touches.

- critic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Just as an aside...Iron is vital to life, However some people of European extraction and Asian people have difficulties with Iron absorption and tend to absorp to much. Although you do not "rust out" your body begins taking out organs from the liver, to the pancreas, to the heart. Diabetes, Heart Disease, and Rheumatoid Arthritis are but a few of the maladies that can catch up with you. This genetic disease is called Hemochromatosis and effects approx 1 in 200 white people in the US alone. Diagnosis for the iron overload condition costs < $200US. You would want a Ferritin Test and a TIBC test to measure your iron and saturation level. If you think you have CFS or IBS please consider getting yourself checked out. Treatment is incredibly easy and involves no drugs. [You just donate blood frequently to keep creating new fresh blood.]
The genes for Euro's have been identified, the genes for Asians have not been found yet, but Asians do load iron faster than white people. - randomvictim, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5There is no such thing. Heh, "Sound particle".
- terminalpariah, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5The new form is called bumcivilian, or "brown iron," iron's most basic form. Bumcivilian has the curious property of absorbing sound particles.
- lollerskates, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's as odd a chemical as sulphagne.
I hope you all disposed your bumcivilian the correct way, by shooting it. - MisterCookie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Let's call it "Miracle Metal"
**waits for 3 people to understand the reference** - Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Thanks, I'll just add that $200 to the list of potential ailments to get diagnosed for that I can't afford, like atheriosclerosis or cancer. Or, I'll just wait until I have a critical episode, and spend the rest of my unnatural life living on Medicare because the stupid government is too cheap to subsidize preventive medicine.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If you read the article, they call it "Iron VI."
Which is, incidentally, an AWESOME name. - theblooms, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Bumcivilian "has the curions property of absorbing sound particles" -- And, when found on street corners, your spare change.

- szelij, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2It doesn't make my dream of building a space elevator any closer. We really need the carbonano tubing manufacturing process to be refined further...
- rasterbator, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1[quote]With the new compound in hand, the next steps will be to explore how it reacts with other chemicals and how it might be put to use. "Now that we have made it, we can use our imagination to discover the reactivity of the compound, the reasons for its stability, synthetic routes to other compounds like this one, and practical uses for this new chemistry," says Berry.[quote]
In other words, let's see if this will be useful in making new weaponry. - olego, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3I enjoyed the latter part of that movie. The beginning was slow.
- FlyingLlama, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3lets call it diggiron
