- binorgog, on 08/07/2008, -1/+29This is just a test run, they don't actually start smashing particles till the following day, September 11.....ooohhh wait...that feels strange
- ADIDAS247, on 08/07/2008, -1/+25Your countdown hasn't moved in 5 hours 43 min 59 sec
- SirPopper, on 08/07/2008, -1/+24Countdown to LHC start-up: 33 days 16 hours 21 min 39 sec
- sockpuppets, on 08/07/2008, -0/+22My God he's caught in a temporal anomaly.
- Weip, on 08/07/2008, -4/+26I, for one, welcome our new UPER MASIVE black hole overlord!
- siffer, on 08/07/2008, -1/+19interesting article on the the LHC's potential failure-
http://fqxi.org/community/forum/topic/230 - aptanalogy, on 08/07/2008, -1/+17This could be the most important thing that has ever happened.
- lonedust, on 08/07/2008, -5/+20LHC Doomsday Supporters and 911 Truthers to combine and form Voltron?
- elTito, on 08/08/2008, -0/+14Wouldn't it suck if it turned out that all the black holes we see in the Universe are actually the last remnants of intelligent civilizations whose technology lead them to the creation of a LHC analog?
Just sayin'. - airwalkery2k, on 08/07/2008, -2/+15Good. That gives me at least 3 days to play Spore before apparently the world explodes or whatever that man with the tin-foil hat was saying.
- brocori, on 08/07/2008, -0/+11birthday: september 5th
deathday: september 10th
i need to start writing my bucket list - JorgeGT, on 08/07/2008, -1/+12I'm going tomorrow to Switzerland, and I was browsing their page, it says there can be both individual and group free visits, but you have to call with a lot of time :_____(
But I shall go one day... and I'll pack my crowbar :P - ADIDAS247, on 08/07/2008, -4/+14So that it? Sept. 10th will be the last day that I have to complete all my lifes goals?
Better start narrowing down my list now, anyone have Meghan Fox's phone number? - alphabetagaga, on 08/07/2008, -2/+12There goes the neighborhood.
- Spoomeister, on 08/07/2008, -4/+14WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE
- founderofpork, on 08/07/2008, -0/+10His S key was obliterated by a time ripple caused by the Large Hadron Collider.
Believe it. - kitsua, on 08/07/2008, -2/+11I'm so excited about this that I'm actually contemplating going over to Switzerland to see the facility for myself and talk to some of the scientists.
Such a momentous scientific occasion must not be missed! - craighoxton, on 08/08/2008, -0/+86. Sam Beckett leaps back home?
- sockpuppets, on 08/07/2008, -0/+7The terrorist particle is real. God save us all.
- merlin5, on 08/08/2008, -0/+7The debate over this is unbelievable. The physicists are going crazy and the crazy physicists are totally freaking out. To the best of my ability to understand I've identified some interesting doomsday theories...
1, Micro-black-hole fuses with side of collider and starts to grow.
2, Antimatter particles cause reaction with, theorized, nearby antimatter cloud (boom)
3. "Strange Particles" pollute our reality and screw everything up.
4. Temporal pulse ripples backwards in time and squishes a butterfly (whoops)
5. tear in space-time-membrane.
Only to name a few, Me and wife plan to kick back with a really good bottle of wine that day. Maybe the reset button gets pushed and we get to try again? - Swarms, on 08/07/2008, -0/+7I've read countless articles on this thing and have done my best to keep up on it, but I'm not ashamed to admit I'm still not really positive what the ***** it does. It's just awesome and amazingly complex, I know that.
- jamessavik, on 08/07/2008, -1/+8I want to listen to Johnny Cash and smoke a Camel as I fall off into the even horizon of the black hole.
- Ultra42, on 08/07/2008, -0/+6If thing go wrong, just reverse polarity.
- UtahApocalyse, on 08/07/2008, -1/+6ohhh snap.... thats just too erie
- EbenieRosa, on 08/07/2008, -0/+5one thing evrything needs to understand is this is just the date of the first beam commisioning it will take almost a full month for the beams to be at the proper velocity for collision, so it will be at the earliest the end of september, or mid october.
- livefromheaven, on 08/07/2008, -0/+5S key failure?
- PullingTeeth, on 08/07/2008, -4/+9Large Hardon Collider? I need my eyes checked.
- bbqsalad, on 08/07/2008, -0/+4cus Kansas, is goin bye bye
- FredFredrickson, on 08/07/2008, -1/+5If you're responsible for pulling teeth, you should.
- bbqsalad, on 08/07/2008, -4/+8He's using Vista.
- m0laria, on 08/07/2008, -1/+5And the last.
- snoogit, on 08/07/2008, -1/+5Needs the missing Ron Paul supporters first.
- BookmasterIce, on 08/07/2008, -0/+4Don't forget you're towel.
- NHeerDesign, on 08/08/2008, -0/+4EVERYBODY PANIC
- bitbytebit, on 08/08/2008, -0/+4the higgs boson is a theoretical (hypothetical?) particle that will go a long way towards a unification theory and explain some of the other matter particles that have been discovered.
Another theoretical particle that may be found is the tachyon.
Basically all kinds of new information about 'how ***** works' may be found. Sure it may be the end of us all, but think of the possiblilities! - kaptainKraken, on 08/08/2008, -1/+5yeah but not they way you're thinking of.
- Bastet62, on 08/08/2008, -0/+3I've been throwing that same party since Bush got elected.
- PurpleDee, on 08/08/2008, -0/+3Don't cross the streams!
- elTito, on 08/08/2008, -0/+3Basically they're gonna speed little pieces of matter up to near the speed of light, aim them at each other, make them collide and "see what happens". They're looking for a subatomic particle called a Higgs Boson. I dunno WTF that is, but from what I gather it's pretty much what the whole thing is built to find.
- mr.gates, on 08/07/2008, -0/+3I will at least give you the benefit of saying you don't understand it but you are still dug down.
- Tr33fiddy, on 08/07/2008, -1/+4you so deserve the thumbs up for that last line.
- Ragarnok, on 08/08/2008, -0/+3Wow that's awesome, I think I'm going to throw a "God is dead" party when turn it on, so I can party one last time before we all get sucked in the giant Whirpool-Black Hole
- ultragush, on 08/07/2008, -0/+3i want to listen to the dead and smoke a zoot as i fall off into the event horizon of the black hole.
- TheMagician2007, on 08/07/2008, -0/+3They won't be smashing protons on Sept. 10th. That's later this year.
- Bastet62, on 08/08/2008, -0/+3OK - so I officially will quit smoking AFTER September 10th, I mean, seriously, I'd be stupid to go through the misery of quitting just to die next month anyway. At least it will be easier to quit smoking when you're dead already, but I still won't be dumb enough to max out any charge cards in anticipation of the end of the world - CapitalOne would probably find me and bill me in the after-life, and make me pay a late fee.
- bbqsalad, on 08/08/2008, -0/+2I would welcome any of those.. especially #3
- Torx, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2Heres something to ponder. We created the big bang and were doing it again. History repeats itself. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
- dcmcderm, on 08/08/2008, -0/+2This is great news. Lately I've been noticing lots of particles slacking off and going way too slow.
- scarwars, on 08/08/2008, -0/+2damn.. now i'll never play gta IV on the pc..
- inactive, on 08/07/2008, -2/+4I'm abit worried about this thing, probably because i don't understand it. But its hard to say what the full effects on our environment / earth are. Why do we have breathable air and atmosphere , that other planets don't have? whatever keeps that going i don't want to screw it up.
