- trollick, on 07/23/2008, -1/+35Running on little or even no power? Because, as everybody knows, biological organisms do not require energy and operate in violation of most laws of physics.
- RealmDown, on 07/23/2008, -2/+27I think we already are. This has already been done on a large scale, and each one of us is a self replicating processor.
Hmmm. Two mice just came out of the wall and are looking at me funny. - InThePants, on 07/23/2008, -2/+21Oh my god I love run on sentences they are so exciting and keep the reader in perpetual suspense and I really hope that this DNA stuff works out it would be really awesome and I would feel so much better about using a computer that uses only a fraction of the power my current computer uses, can you imagine how long the battery would last i bet i could watch the matrix five times in a row and not even have to plug the computer in man that would be the best.

- Nicoon, on 07/23/2008, -1/+14"green computers running on little or even no power."
I think not. There's always some form of energy input if you expect an output. The difference is just that this energy may or may not come from your power outlet. - mohamedmansour, on 07/23/2008, -0/+13Where is the "real" article. The research paper that the university has submitted. There is no reference of the real thing. I want to read the actual research document instead of an outsider trying to explain it in his own terms with no reference.
- Ocelot13, on 07/23/2008, -0/+11its cause theyre in the future, duh.

How Stuff Works apparently knows how a DNA computer will work:
http://computer.howstuffworks.com/dna-computer1.ht ... - MxM111, on 07/23/2008, -0/+10No, those will be naturally intelligent :)
- RedneckRandy, on 07/23/2008, -0/+8This is the worst article ever. It's like one paragraph and doesn't explain anything at all about how this would work or what the limitations would be. Plus it makes the false claim that it would require no power. Diggers are supposed to be nerds. Why are you guys Digging this? It's crap!!!
- imjust2purrfect, on 07/23/2008, -2/+9the japanese come up with everything!
- poiuytrewq44, on 07/23/2008, -0/+6I don't know why the ***** you're digging me down, DNA breaks down. Period. It requires Telomeres to stay functioning, and there are only a certain amount of these in a system. To make matters worse, you couldn't just add telomerase because that would dilute the system, causing it to run slower because it would take longer for the molecules to bump into their destination.
- Jeremyz0r, on 07/23/2008, -0/+5@MxM111... I'm glad your comprehension skills are that slow.
- Memnochxx, on 07/23/2008, -0/+5Gonna watch this for the first one to say it.
- poiuytrewq44, on 07/23/2008, -1/+6Well, until the computer "dies" at least. Digital information will then no longer be potentially everlasting, and we'll be restricted to how fast individual molecules can move which, albeit pretty fast, is incomparable to electrons.
- tamzarian, on 07/23/2008, -1/+6I don't care!
- 0Xonox0, on 07/23/2008, -0/+4So could we selectively breed these computers to produce higher quality machines?
- tweedius, on 07/23/2008, -0/+4MxM111, don't talk about what you don't know about. I've done research on DNA based computers. They require ATP to operate, ATP is the energy source used by cells. Everything needs energy. And you're completely wrong about the amount of information they can process, they can process huge amounts of data. However, the resulting "code" molecules need to be separated, this is just one of the technological hurdles that need to be overcome in order to realize "DNA" based computers. Some scientists doubt that there will ever be a DNA based computer available for general public use. My money is on quantum computing.
- Thuktun, on 07/23/2008, -0/+4Silicon not silicone.

- Rovalf, on 07/23/2008, -0/+3This article is over saturated with greenness to the point where it obscures the "and that is really cool" part of the article... that we can use microorganisms to solve complex math problems. It tries to tie synthetic biology with greenness... but wait, we already knew biology was pretty green to begin with.
- D14852001neko, on 07/23/2008, -0/+3Hitchhiker Guide to the Galaxy, read the whole set of books.
- MxM111, on 07/23/2008, -1/+4No, no one does. Everyone is having a Terminator amnesia.

- holyreality, on 07/23/2008, -1/+3the next step in mankind's quest to create machines that become sentient and then slaughter and enslave us....
- inactive, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2I was about to post something similar, but you said it far better than I could. I've no idea why you are being dugg down.
- tweedius, on 07/23/2008, -1/+3Read an article about DNA computing. This is old stuff and there is no proof it can ever work to do what the people who want funding for it claim in order to get said funding. Quantum computers however will probably be much more practical before DNA computers could ever work.
- Jeremyz0r, on 07/23/2008, -1/+3They make a lot of crazy *****, but they seem to be mass inventing everything as of late.
(If only they could bring hot anime guys to life) :3 - neoq36, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2Brainiac??
- Ryvenn, on 07/24/2008, -0/+2This could be the basis for brain augmenting computers, no need for battery burning metal parts.
Ghost in the Shell cyberbrain, here I come! - MikeSobe, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2Where's the meat to this article? I want to know how this is supposed to work.
- Kazimieras, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1If it is a bio computer, it still would need power. We'd just be feeding our machines rather than giving them power.
- catfoodgood, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1Green Paint + Computer = Green Computer. Voila! Now where's your 'unlimited power?'
- ivanmarsh, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1So, none of these people have read Ronin by Frank Miller?

i am sure enzyme keyboard will eat your hand as soon you touch it! mhmm! watch out if you see keyboard forming its mouth. - MxM111, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1That does not have to be a biological computer, does not it?
- Jeremyz0r, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1Correction*: "Helicopter/Scorpion mech-name here".

- gamebittk, on 07/25/2008, -0/+1Living machines?
- polalion, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1One day we will look back to this article and laugh.
Then we will say, as the laughing slowly dies out, "But seriously, what the ***** were we thinking?"
Then the Cylons come in and kill us. - covertbadger, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1If that was a pun on ENIAC for first biology-driven general purpose computer, you deserve far more diggs than you've received. I think most people didn't get it.
- php5developers, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1Is it possible "laptop that didn’t require batteries"?
