- Ecowarrior, on 10/12/2007, -4/+55Quite possibly the finest chemical on planet earth.
Not for everyone but for those who it is for.... wow. - SpectralSounds, on 10/12/2007, -1/+46Imagine what a surprise that first acid trip was. When you drop acid, for the most part, you know what to expect. For those who havent done acid before, they expect to get screwed up. Albert Hofman just thought he spilled some liquid on his hands.... and WOOHOO! SURPRISE!
- scrugby, on 10/12/2007, -1/+46Turn on, tune in, drop out
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+35Indeed.. I wish I could "accidentally" discover some LSD right now...
- swrostmore, on 10/12/2007, -5/+38...It seems entirely reasonable to think that every now and then the energy of a whole generation comes to a head in a long fine flash, for reasons that nobody really understands at the time — and which never explain, in retrospect, what actually happened... There was madness in any direction, at any hour. If not across the Bay, then up the Golden Gate or down 101 to Los Altos or La Honda... My central memory of that time seems to hang on one or five or maybe forty nights — or very early mornings — when I left the Fillmore half-crazy and, instead of going home, aimed the big 650 Lightning across the Bay Bridge at a hundred miles an hour... booming through the Treasure Island tunnel at the lights of Oakland and Berkeley and Richmond, not quite sure which turnoff to take when I got to the other end... but being absolutely certain that no matter which way I went I would come to a place where people were just as high and wild as I was: no doubt at all about that. You could strike sparks anywhere. There was a fantastic universal sense that whatever we were doing was right, that we were winning... And that, I think, was the handle — that sense of inevitable victory over the forces of Old and Evil. Not in any mean or military sense; we didn't need that. Our energy would simply PREVAIL. There was no point in fighting — on our side or theirs. We had all the momentum; we were riding the crest of a high and beautiful wave... So now, less than five years later, you can go up on a steep hill in Las Vegas and look West, and with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high-water mark — that place where the wave finally broke and rolled back.
- HamsterOfDeath, on 10/12/2007, -0/+32Interesting, but "250 milligrams" is incorrect, he consumed 250 micrograms, or 1/4 milligram. 250 milligrams of LSD would be...quite a dose.

- Brishen, on 10/27/2007, -3/+29Remember that LSD helped Francis Crick to crack the structure of DNA
- MCMookie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25From YouTube:
David Normal's animated short, "The Bicycle Ride", is a depiction of Albert Hofmann's discovery of LSD. This was presented to Hofmann on his 100th birthday.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QaG0R2EjFgs - timbob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16consider this:
A. "he ingested 250 milligrams of LSD, embarking on the first full-fledged acid trip."
B. "While a typical single dose of LSD may be between 100 and 500 micrograms — an amount roughly equal to one-tenth the mass of a grain of sand — threshold effects can be felt with as little as 20 micrograms."
C. One MICROgram=.001milligrams - fistofblood, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15lol, I wish it was still $5. In fact, I wish it was still readily available. LSD is one of the most difficult drugs to find, at least for me, and it is also expensive costing upwards of $10 per tab.
- indicas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12RIP Dr Gonzo.
- StrangeFamous, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12April 16, 1943: A great day for the expanding brain.
Music and Art thank you, Albert Hofmann. - inactive, on 10/27/2007, -2/+12@swrostmore:
Dugg for the Fear and Loathing reference
@rice:
Dugg down for not catching it... - fistofblood, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11I invite you all to celebrate Bicycle Day on 4/19, the day of the first intentional Acid trip. Hoffman was so curious about the effects of LSD that a few days after his accidental dose he decided to experiment with it again. He in fact ingested quite a large dose and asked his lab assistant to take him home. Since this was during WWII there were restrictions on gasoline/automobile usage. All the lab assistant had was a bicycle, so that's what they took to get home.
- pyrolizard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11DMT is very underrated. When smoked, it comes on almost instantly. From base to peak in less than five minutes. The trip itself is in a class of its own. Hallucinations are clear, and rational, unlike acid where the majority of what you see is some sort of pattern, prism, or rainbow effect. On high doses of LSD, I've seen things drip, floors tear away, and once the room started spinning into a spiral. Nothing like what I've seen form straight into existence right before my eyes on dmt.
- asdfasdf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11The term 'drop out' wasn't appealing, especially to the older generation and the non-educated; They interpreted it as dropping out of school. It meant dropping out of the social game (philosophy, sociology).

- deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Thank you Dr. Hofmann.
- ntwrkguy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9aww man...acid trip one day and a 24-hour marijuana consumption fest the next?
- williamdyer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7@Rice
Is that you, Condi? - cordogg51, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6i tried LSD for the first time...it's one of those things everyone must try once in their lives.
in an interview with ozzy, he said he did LSD everyday for two years...he's pretty ***** up now, but im sure it was the combo of the coke and ***** - NikZ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6For the curious people like myself, DO NOT click A5SMAN's comment... it's 9,824 lines of "LSD" repeated - nothing interesting, not worth the effort, move on.
Digg *really* needs to implement char limits on comment boxes. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5best way to meet dead relatives - 10 hits and a sensory deprivation tank
love is the answer - Xorp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I LOVE AAAAAACID!!
/supertroopers - JROCKinAK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I personally have found LSD to be the most liberating experience possible, you gain new insights and find a new meaning to life. I for one think LSD should be experienced by all, because it would allow the world to refocus our thoughts on what is truly important in this world. I give thanks to Dr. Albert Hofmann and Dr. Timothy Leary for truly giving the world an awesome opportunity to really live life.
- MrBabyMan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Freaking awesome. Thanks.
- SirGrok, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I have been planning for Bicycle Day for... Hum, lets see... 5 months now. I have 300micros of the lovely liquid stuff lined up. Don't forget to pack for your trip! http://erowid.org/plants/mushrooms/mushrooms_faq.shtml#15
- thenativeraver, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5This just reminded me of something I saw at the spike and mikes sick and twisted festival...

- alittletoohigh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5A dangerous but essential part of anyones life. Take it with care, folks. Just once is enough to be one of your greatest memories. Thank you for that gift, Dr Hofmann!
- InfamousX241, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yeah, it's $10 a hit here too. Two hits for a decent trip = $20. Not rich enough to make it a weekend thing.
- antiundersteer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6After some . . .. contemplation, I realized that LSD is nothing more than a software hack for our own biological computers.
In geek speek: Normal life is like running Windows XP, and a good trip is like Mac OS X
Windows Vista is like a bad trip with flashbacks to Windows ME
Are you with me? - H3LLSL337, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Leonard Pickard. Shut down by a narc out of Tulsa, Ok.
http://www.freepickard.org/ - emjaymj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Synthetic psilocybin is *GASP* identical to the natural stuff. Guess what... there is no magical marker that says whether a chemical is man-made or natural. There are lots of natural things that are very bad for you, and ALL mushrooms are at least slightly toxic.
The only benefit of mushrooms over acid is that the trip is shorter, so if you have a bad trip, it ends a lot quicker. But eating shrooms is disgusting and it ruins my trip with an upset stomach EVERY TIME. - TroubleInMind, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7@tr33fiddy
dugg in accordance with my "any Big Lebowski reference" policy. - SirGrok, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Well, the streets still have quite a bit of it, and you can come across some great stuff (read: Liquid) if you are in the right place. Lucky for me, I have a lot of friends in the right place. Memphis has a pretty good supply right now, and has for the past few months.
- spudlyo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Um, no. The poster got it wrong, it's micrograms.
- JoeRW, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Anyone else get to the seeing with your whole body thing?
- nestafett, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4how do you get the "420 has nothing to do with weed" out of that?
- Aquashark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3drugs are bad, drugs are ev.. oh wait! Albert Hofmann is 101 years old.
- johnnykalma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3they don't grow in cow pies man
http://www.erowid.org/plants/mushrooms/mushrooms_mmgg.shtml#Terrarium
THAT'S what they grow in. a Terrarium - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Im taking 1 tab (low dose) on the 19th to celebrate bicycle day.
- emjaymj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3nope.. with a few friends just chilling out or enjoying nature maybe
- rmmcclay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I just talked with the good doctor a week ago...I usually call him on his birthday (January)...but I had a friend over and he wanted to chat with him. Hofmann's doing well for a 101.
- paratroopamac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2well, i tried lots of things that can make you trip (salvia, woodrose aka LSA, shrooms, etc.), but there's simply nothing more mind blowing and mind opening than LSD. it's the cleanest and most pure yet intense trip one can get (haven't tried peyote aka mescal or brugmansia aka angels trumpet yet, but i heard angels trumpet can give you a really f-ed up trip wich can last up to three days!).
i think lot's of people don't get that the most important thing when experimenting with all thing hallucinogen is the state of your mind before you "pop" a trip and the set / setting. if you pop an acid at a party then it's your fault if you got a bad trip imho...
luckily i live in basle myself so we're going to have blast celebrating bicycle day. hope all of you too :) - Starflyer59, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I don't do drugs, though. Just weed.
- bewing77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Aha, ok. Anyways, it would have been a hell of a trip if he had done it..
- jas168, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The DEA just so happened to bust some pretty productive manufacturers of LSD, thus raising the price. Unfortunately when one drug becomes less popular, others become moreso... Which only sucks because I'd rather people used LSD or weed than heroine or alcohol for that matter.
- Mokshaguy390, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Pretty sweet. I expected a great deal more flaming here. People need to give geeks more credit. We are possibly the most open-minded people out there.
PS: I have four tabs chilling out in a box of *ahem* paraphernalia that are waiting for just the right day. -
