- jay314, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This reminds me of a stunt on an episode of Jackass. One of the guys dressed up in a devil costume and walked around town saying "I just got a bad wrap! I'm really a pretty nice guy! But that circumcision thing was my idea.." Then some nutjob flipped out, screamed something about Jesus, and started beating the guy.
The Jackass just let himself get hit in the face, and then replied with "That's not very Christian". - jay314, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@kevbryant:
Ok.. I'll give you that "rednecks" is an inappropriate word to put in an article summary. That's rgladwell expressing his opinion. But there isn't any tone like that in the linked story, so the link is appropriate for digg. There may not be any scientific advancement in the story, but it's certainly news and it's related to the ongoing ID debate. - CableCarrier, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Un-christian? Ummm... are we forgetting the Crusades, the Spanish inquisition... to name but a few..?"
I sorta meant as an individual person, but yeah, those were awful things. - rgladwell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sorry, you'll have to point out to me where it says Digg is only about the advancement of science and nothing else. I would've thought a subject like this, which seems to be a good example of how the advancement science is being retared, would be perfect for the science topic. Just because it also happens to be political story (and a political topic that you'd rather were ignored) doesn't mean it should be censored here.

Sure, not all christians in pickups are rednecks.. but the pair of christians from Kansas who got out of their pickup truck, on the road, to beat the crap out a university professor who disagreed with their religious viewpoint? I think we can call them rednecks. - rgladwell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nowhere in the digg or linked articles does it suggest that "all christians who drive pickups are rednecks" so I'm not sure where you got from, unless you are suggesting he was assaulted for some other reason other than his high-profile criticism of ID?
Also it's clearly science-orientated which is why it was listed in the science section: if a scientist can be assaulted for his research and lecture topics, then I think we're all pretty much fair game. - CableCarrier, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah, we shouldn't be calling these guys rednecks...we should be calling them ass****s. Assaulting someone because of what they believe is just plain wrong and perhaps the most un-Christian thing I can think of. Jesus preached of tolerance, didn't he?

"don't hate the player, hate the game" - marksven, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Here's a better article:
http://www.kansas.com/mld/eagle/living/education/13337930.htm - sfacets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Un-christian? Ummm... are we forgetting the Crusades, the Spanish inquisition... to name but a few..?
- kevbryant, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0maybe you're right...my apologies, just felt like i was being called a redneck, i suppose that he wasn't implying that christians are rednecks.
- kevbryant, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0sorry about any misspellings, damn firefox bug doesn't like typing in text boxes
- Trumpi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Hmmm... this is sad, but so is the generalisations in the article.
- kevbryant, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0it occurs to me that i am adding to the problem i hate, so i won't be commenting anymore.
- kevbryant, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0this is horrible, but not all christians who drive pickups are rednecks. that kind of prejudice i is the same that these idiots used to attack the man. lets be more productive here on digg please. besides, what's tech about this?
- kevbryant, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0what a load of crap, this is all a bunch of name calling crap. first the comments call tthem rednecks (yes it seems there is an implication there) then the link itself has comments by the writer equating fundamentalists with ignorant thugs. crap crap crap. support this and you support the same intolerance that these idiots had. that is why it shouldnt be here. that is why opinions shouldnt be here. no one said censor it. just a damn shame
- kevbryant, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0yes, you could, and that would be called prejudice, or a generality, or whatever. term you want to use. note i didn't say they weren't stupid. thisis a news story, a political story, but in now way does it convey any sort of advancement in science or any other topic. i still would just like to keep name-calling and politics out of digg. i don't want to read about someone who doesn't like christians or rednecks OR Evolutionists. I come here, like most people, to read about advancement, not opinion or opinion based beatings. i should have ignored thisstory just like everyone else on digg is going to because it isn't relative to the nature of the site. no digg.
