- doublefelix, on 01/14/2009, -7/+386That's a weird place to make astronomical observations.
- hanger69er, on 01/14/2009, -9/+285 FINALLY they found Atlantis
- megapeg, on 01/14/2009, -5/+267In ancient times, hundreds of years before the dawn of history, an ancient race of people... the Druids. No one knows who they were or what they were doing...
- KenSPT, on 01/14/2009, -5/+212Finally something good happens to Michigan ...
- vat0r, on 01/14/2009, -1/+165I wonder how long it will take to get the StarGate up and running?
- Wreckage, on 01/14/2009, -5/+160It turns out it was just the ruins of Detroit.
- awtripp, on 01/14/2009, -2/+127They had to turn the sonar up to 11 to find it.
- PityDaFool, on 01/14/2009, -4/+12940 feet deep? Send someone down to take pictures. Until then, quit wasting my time.
- sdellboy, on 01/14/2009, -17/+125Lets see the hippies try and spend an evening worshipping and smoking drugs round THIS monument...
- bigp3rm, on 01/14/2009, -13/+109How did they hold their breath that long to set up the stones?
- Chamrox, on 01/14/2009, -5/+99Let's put it up to the henge test?
Bunch of large rocks in a circle? - No Check
Two vertical rocks with one horizontal rock placed on top? - No Check
No, not stonehenge.
I want to bury because it is inaccurate, and I want to dig because it is interesting even if you have to do a hit of LSD to see what they're saying.... so, I'm just going to do nothing. - DeadSkinMask, on 01/14/2009, -3/+94But their legacy remains
Hewn into the living rock... Of Stonehenge! - theOster, on 01/14/2009, -2/+81i'm guessing there was humor missed.
- IphtashuFitz, on 01/14/2009, -2/+78Some hippie will figure out how to fill a scuba tank up with pot smoke...
- Abomonog, on 01/14/2009, -1/+68Working on it....
- presidentraygun, on 01/14/2009, -5/+69How big are the stones? I mean are they in danger of being trampled by dwarves?
- TheWorm, on 01/14/2009, -0/+57Hippies are surprisingly ambitious when it comes to new pot smoking technology.
- Abomonog, on 01/14/2009, -10/+62Not really. 10,000 years puts it in the Ice Age. Lake Michigan was dry land back then.
- petebot, on 01/14/2009, -0/+48Are you sure you weren’t on mushrooms?
- hasslinthehoff, on 01/14/2009, -4/+52How did it go from a boulder with a mastodon carved on it to "Another Stonehenge...?" Buried for unnecessary hype.
- AtHomeBoy2000, on 01/14/2009, -0/+46I'm assuming that triangle thingy in the middle is some sonar error? Other than that, it looks like a random arrangement or rocks to me.
- Smokeydabear, on 01/14/2009, -2/+47"This one goes to 11."
- dagr8tim, on 01/14/2009, -0/+42"It took us fifteen years and three supercomputers to MacGyver a system for the gate"
- drewbeta, on 01/14/2009, -1/+41Seriously, during the summer when it gets really hot they shut down the beaches because of the danger of e coli.
I've swam in it once many years ago. And once, in an unrelated story, I saw Conan O'Brien and Mr. T kayaking down the Chicago River when I was walking between classes downtown. I'm surprised that they didn't get something worse then e coli. The Chicago River is far dirtier then Lake Michigan. - twignificant, on 01/14/2009, -4/+43Dugg for coolness, but it's only at 40 feet depth. I was imagining something far deeper with the Seaquest passing over head.
- freeridstylee, on 01/14/2009, -4/+43Have you ever swam in Lake Michigan?
- AdrianKRAZY, on 01/14/2009, -7/+40Wow!. It looks just like Stonehenge. :\
- RodgerE1, on 01/14/2009, -2/+33I'm glad to see there are still Tap fans out there.
- ModX, on 01/14/2009, -1/+30This must be one of those magic eye things. If I squint really hard it looks like a sail boat.
- pjb5064, on 01/14/2009, -0/+28most people's sonar equipment only goes to 10, but ours go to 11.
- Necoras, on 01/14/2009, -5/+33Yeah, it'd be hard to see the stars from under a glacier.
- raydeen, on 01/14/2009, -1/+28Lick my Love Pump.
- Snottlebocket, on 01/14/2009, -1/+27My father was right, I finally decyphered his notes and, god have mercy, he was right. Just like he wrote, we found that infernal altar at the bottom of the lake. But it wasn't deserted, oh the merciless horrors we saw from the portholes of our divingbell. Vile things cavorted on the lakebed, stirring up black mud with their revelry and worship at that altar of elder gods.
Who knows what horrors they pray for? Not much time left now, Jonah is burning the notes. Soon when all evidence is destroyed I'll give myself final peace. Just one more drink to forget... - R0am3r, on 01/14/2009, -2/+28Let me guess - 18 inches tall.
- raydeen, on 01/14/2009, -1/+27Spaceballs. It was great. It had nothing to do with a fictional rock and roll band and wasn't directed by Rob Reiner.
- jattea, on 01/14/2009, -1/+23Yeah, that was the joke the other guy made.
- BigErn847, on 01/14/2009, -1/+23You can't dust for vomit.
- Abomonog, on 01/14/2009, -0/+22It's the sonar dead spot.
I agree. Looks like leftovers from a glacial retreat. - Irishjack, on 01/14/2009, -0/+21Hate to tell you it averages 279 feet deep.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Michigan
Lake Erie is the shallowest of the Great Lakes and it's deepest point is 210 feet.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_erie - meghalc, on 01/14/2009, -0/+20I was thinking the same thing!
- acknotSW, on 01/14/2009, -1/+20Wow, I haven't seen that movie in years. I wonder if I still have it......
- inactive, on 01/14/2009, -0/+19They just need a ZPM
- swab, on 01/14/2009, -0/+18It is the largest henge ever built! Nobody knows what the ***** a henge is...
- DrVic, on 01/14/2009, -0/+18...where the demons dwell, where then banshees live and they do live well.
- i4mt3hwin, on 01/14/2009, -0/+18Nope, it's just a concert area where people went to listen to techno.
- theOster, on 01/14/2009, -1/+18woosh?
- HollyHopDrive, on 01/14/2009, -0/+17Every time I click on an interesting link that ends up being an io9 story, I get slightly skeptical/annoyed. I don't know if it's the dumb looking elf in the logo or the poorly written articles, but I've never read something there that panned out to be as good as the headline.
