Somehow, though, I was hoping that the picture of the marble relief from Halicarnassus would show fighters that looked like Xena Warrior Princess (I think I watch too much TV) - Ollin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16a SEXY movie at that ;)

Or you would have been if dig users weren't extremely susceptible to reverse-psychology. Anyways you don't have to a history major or anything to know this, it was on PBS like one or two years ago. - QueenOfSwords, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Fascinating.... most people have no idea about this. I'd say there's a good movie in this discovery :)
- Tricky, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Lol, me too.
- culbeda, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Last I heard, the scholarly view was that female gladiators existed but were quite rare. For some reason, people seem to be overly excited about this concept and blow the scale of their involvement out of proportion.
"Death by Snoo Snoo!" - ka0tic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Didn't Morgan Webb talk about this on Xplay before?
- ultimate_ed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Several years back there was one of those History/Discovery channel documentaries about this. I think it was called Gladiatrix and seemed to be a response to the depiction of a female gladiator in the theatrical movie "Gladiator". I never looked it up, but the narrator sounded like it was Lucy Lawless herself. As I recall, the conclusion was that they were rare, but not unheard of.
Apologies if the article addresses this already - I'm at work at the link is blocked by the proxy software. - JulianMorrison, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This was Rome, so probably, yes.

http://www.petitiononline.com/glads1/petition.html - whisperedlie, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2if they didn't have paper bags in ancient roman times, what did they use to place over the head of butter-faces back then (in reference to xena)?
- stonebear, on 10/12/2007, -12/+1Freaking Dykes, pelvis always gives them away. What to do? Cut quicker and harder is all.
