- greensauce, on 01/07/2009, -12/+105dugg for cool idea and hot chick
- inactive, on 01/08/2009, -5/+67She essentially "invented" a swamp cooler? BFD.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evaporative_cooling#T ... - nichesiteexpert, on 01/07/2009, -9/+59Amazing solar-powered fridge invented by HOT British student
- ileftfark, on 01/07/2009, -9/+52The fridge isn't "solar-powered" per se, it uses evaporation to draw heat from the inner cylinder, keeping the contents cool. The sun helps in this process, but it isn't what most people understand as 'solar power'.
Also, her grandfather has an awesome workshop; I used to go there all the time as a kid. But then one time we were making a birdhouse and I spilled paint all over my clothes. Now, he's not allowed around children anymore. - bixby1, on 01/07/2009, -5/+37To hold my amazing solar-powered chilled beer.
- sagefool1975, on 01/08/2009, -2/+33While it is good that people are getting the word out about how refrigeration is a win for the third world, this is not really an 'invention.'
It's just evaporative cooling, which seems to get invented over and over, for example:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pot-in-pot_refrigerat ... - greenlight2001, on 01/08/2009, -1/+31Yeah, this is nothing new. She certainly didn't invent this. People have been doing this with 2 clay potts and water in between for a long time.
- fuckingusername, on 01/07/2009, -8/+381 fridge
1 truck load of beer
1 hot female
1 desert island
= FTW - Incman, on 01/08/2009, -2/+29She said "... in countries like Africa". When did Africa become a country?
- silent128, on 01/08/2009, -3/+29Amazing, its a ***** thermos with a sponge around it...
- hocine, on 01/08/2009, -4/+29dugg for old guy grinding on hot chick.
- Angostura, on 01/08/2009, -7/+30Buried: Daily Fail.

5$ says she removes her mobile phone number by the end of the week. - jotux, on 01/08/2009, -2/+18Show me on the doll where he spilled paint on you.
- inactive, on 01/08/2009, -0/+16dugg for "Cummins"
- Ratteler, on 01/08/2009, -0/+14"That's her grandfather."
Then dugg up again for incest. :-p - cparsons, on 01/08/2009, -9/+23Her grandpa made it.
Same as when your dad made the volcano for the science fair. - immatellyouwhat, on 01/08/2009, -12/+25You guys need to get out more she is not hot...keep clicking til you see her big picture
- yngtimmy, on 01/08/2009, -6/+19Am I the only one who think she is.....I dunno...NOT HOT?
- ileftfark, on 01/08/2009, -3/+15This is the day I spilled the paint: http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/eb0da1e7b5/creepy ...
- flangepiece, on 01/08/2009, -0/+12If you go far enough back I think you could argue that pretty much the whole fecking planet is solar powered one way or another. *****, we're all made of stars. I'm drunk. Umm, could someone help me out with what my point was? I think I dugg you though. Good point :-)
- Mankind121, on 01/08/2009, -2/+13'That idea led me to the design and the fridge was born. After it was ready and working I started realising how useful it would be for people in countries like Africa.'
Not only is Africa not a country, many of the people in African countries don't have the water to spare on this glorified swamp cooler. - jasdf, on 01/08/2009, -0/+10Ahhhhh yes, but did they patent it?
- bruuks, on 01/08/2009, -0/+10i want one, for taking camping with me.
she can bring her fridge with her too, to keep our beers cold. - elister, on 01/08/2009, -0/+9Its a pity really, when she gets married, she wont be cummins anymore.
- dsmx, on 01/08/2009, -2/+11It's as solar powered as plants are so why are you saying it's not solar powered per se?
- theburgerking, on 01/08/2009, -3/+12This article is massively full of FAIL:
- The design has been around for centuries, although it didn't stop a Nigerian winning $75k for the idea in 1995: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pot-in-pot_refrigerat ...
- The design is not "solar powered" in any way, the evaporation occurs because of the contents heating up, causing evaporation. Sunlight is only going to add heat, which needs additional cooling, and so additional evaporation.
- She not hot at all, she's average at best IMHO. - jasdf, on 01/08/2009, -1/+9"I wanted to design something that didn't use electricity, as electricity isn't renewable."
Electricity isn't renewable? - clutchperformer, on 01/08/2009, -1/+9I believe this is called the Zeer pot. She made some functional improvements and... as they say... perfection is often more important than invention.
- CynicalTyler, on 01/08/2009, -0/+8I think you mean to say publicity is more important than... anything.
- cowsgonemadd3, on 01/08/2009, -0/+7Hey, you dont know me but I like a woman who can come up with things. Wana go out on a date sometime?
- JasonAdams13, on 01/08/2009, -0/+7And the fridge isn't so bad either.
ZING!
I apologize in advance to the feminist bloggers out there. - Pake, on 01/08/2009, -0/+7Agreed. Going to have to bury this article as inaccurate since she didn't invent. Can't give credit to someone for just showing off a prettier version of another person's invention.
- jasdf, on 01/08/2009, -2/+8Dew point FAIL! This would never work where the relative humidity is high.
- inactive, on 01/08/2009, -1/+7But can it survive a nuclear explosion?
- p3ngwin, on 01/08/2009, -2/+8buried for being done before and better too (developing countries don't have access to machined plastic and metal, but they DO have pots and sand)
http://www.goselfsufficient.co.uk/potinpot-refrige ... - thelastcivilian, on 01/08/2009, -1/+7If you ask anyone about solar power these days, the first things that would pop into their head would be photovoltaics.
I believe that the quotation marks were meant to denote common usage of the term. - SoleRider, on 01/08/2009, -1/+7Cool... and Hot too. ;-)
- britblogger, on 01/08/2009, -2/+8anyone else think that photo with her granddad, well, feels kinda creepy?
- ChromaVita, on 01/08/2009, -0/+6Also the fact that she has breasts helps.
- DaDrake, on 01/08/2009, -0/+6With diggers being isolated in their rooms for so long, anything with two legs starts to look hot.
- CatsAreGods, on 01/08/2009, -0/+6And in Africa, too!
- supersaiyantoto, on 01/08/2009, -0/+6after a few beers she would be...
- jasdf, on 01/08/2009, -0/+5Phase change and latent heat isn't all that hard to understand (from a pure theory standpoint), but I agree that she may not be as bright as the article leads you to believe.
- bigbangbuddha, on 01/08/2009, -0/+5Can it play Crysis?
- inactive, on 01/08/2009, -4/+9Brilliant AND cute? I think I'm in love... <3
