- jovet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+57Digg's initial and primary appeal has been, frankly, to geeks. I think you'll find that geeks and nerds are interested in things beyond the abstracts of technology. The Digg.com site IS what its users and submitters and diggers MAKE it. It IS NOT about what just YOU alone think it should be. The creators of digg.com have stood back turned most of the control of priority content over to the users--brilliant.
If you don't like it, you have a few options:
o Grow up, quit whining, and go find (or start) another site. (One that enforces ridiculous content regulations.)
o Only look at Science/Tech related stores. Filters ARE available, you know.
Perhaps digg.com is evolving. Or perhaps people like you who complain about this are just idiots. I can't emphasize enough that the worthlessness of your comment, and others like it, far outweighs that of non-tech stories that get dugg. - chetchez, on 10/12/2007, -1/+34KYLE: Hey Stan, did you see that rainbow this morning?
STAN: Yeah, it was huge!
CARTMAN: Eeh, I hate those things.
KYLE: Nobody hates rainbows!
STAN: Yeah, what's there to hate about rainbows?
CARTMAN: Eeh, you know, you'll just be sitting there, minding your own business, and they're all come marching in and crawling up your leg and start biting the inside of your ass, and you'll be all like "Ay! Get out of my ass, you stupid rainbows!"
STAN: Cartman, what the hell are you talking about?
CARTMAN: I'm talking about rainbows. I hate those frigging things.
KYLE: Rainbows are those little arches of color that show up during a rainstorm.
CARTMAN: Oh, rainbows! Oh yeah; I like those; those are cool.
STAN: What were you talking about?
CARTMAN:Huh? Oh, nothing. Forget it. - geeko, on 10/12/2007, -5/+22Okay, sorry.

- aquadude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Woah... That's so surreal.
If I didn't know any better, I would say it was some kind of photoshop artwork. That's just amazing. - SweetChuck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The fully circular rainbows are a fairly common experience to pilots, I've seen a couple myself, and they are very cool.
Incidently, the viewers shadow will always be in the center of the rainbow. - wallclimber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4To all of those disappointed because there was no pot of gold, just think of it this way: The rainbow WAS the pot of gold. It's all in the eye of the beholder, and this group of photos were gorgeous, indeed. :o)

- antipion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I would reconsider....(currently living in missouri and looking to move).
- ophello, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Uh....sure...in your FACE atheists!
- arnar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The planes' or viewer's shadow is in the center because the rainbow appears at the points where the rays from the sun reflect at a specific angle to the viewer's eyes (40°-42° for the brightest rainbow, 50°-52° for the outer one).
I'ts like two cones with the same base (the area inside the rainbow) - the viewer at the top of the lower one looking down, and the sun at the top of the bigger one. A line through the top points (i.e. the shadow) willl hit the base in the exact center.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rainbow - YmerejO42, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I had a couple in the place I work a few months back that told me that they saw one from a plane... Since they were up in the clouds at the time, they saw the *complete* bow, which is circular if viewed from an angle like that, plus at the time that they saw it the plane's shadow was perfectly in the center of it. Unfortunately, nobody on the plane had a camera, so no pictures got taken.
- myskja, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Some of those are pretty good indeed.
For those who likes rainbow shots, here is another one:
http://www.deviantart.com/view/17448481/ - mailman-zero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3A sweet camera and 20 lbs of glass do not great photos make. If you are already as talented as he, then I could understand wanting the camera he has over the talent. As for myself, I'll take the talent. I can always save up and buy a camera. I can't say the same for talent, though.
- vhold, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I too had thought I had seen the most amazing rainbow photography my life would ever offer to me, but this webpage has set me back on the path of expecting more amazing things in regards to rainbows, photography and rainbow photography..
What a great time to be alive. - WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@jovet.
Great comment. You raised an intersting idea (well, to me, anyhow) Maybe it would be good if we had a way that people could view the front page 'by categories', so that some could just see the stories in the science or apple categories, for example, while others can see all the other stories.
Just an idea.. but it is Ok the way it is.
Maybe we should have a few new categories for stories:
Aesthetics / beauty...and Humor.
That would cover many of the recent stories--Though I am not sure we need a humor category.
Thanks for caring!

I do have one question though... where is the pot of gold?!? - Justinpirate, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Wow, that's beautiful! I don't think I have ever even seen a complete rainbow..
- fatlip, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4i really wish these were hi-res.. they'd make sick wallpapers :)
especially on a 3-screen setup - intoflatlines, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3wow. that really wide-angle shot in the middle of the page is amazing.
- lico05, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2All rainbows and no unicorns. What's this world coming to...
- neocitron, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4photography rocks... a timeless technology
and the rainbow is alarmingly good - jovet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3In my limited travels I've found everywhere has its beauty.
- mikm, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Wish I had his talent.
- kindrobot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I have a D50 and am glad I saved some money based on the reviews.
D50 review:
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikond50/page26.asp
Check the specs and the conclusion for a quick overview.
They didn't cripple the camera, like Canon does in it's lower priced DSLRs. And
it is fully flexible. I've only noticed some slight auto focus problems in lower
light situations when the subject is a few feet away. Pull back a bit and crop
later if it's an issue and you need to shoot fast. Otherwise, the viewfinder is
bright and crisp enough to manually focus with precision. I almost went with
Canon, after being a long time Nikon lover. But now I'm glad I didn't. Nikon
still has it. - ophello, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3How, may I ask, were you able to see a rainbow full circle without that pesky GROUND getting in the way??
The only way to see a full-circle rainbow is to be A. Flying B. at some weird angle between the rain and sun that most mortals have never imagined C. On a mountain. I suspect the latter, but your comment was buried because, methinks, you come off as bragging. IVE BEEN TO MAUI AND I SAW A TRIPLE RAINBOW. Sorry, just sounds like you could care less about us 'normal' folk who cant fly, or dont have rich uncles to pay for our trip to hawaii. - mailman-zero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think it's an excellent display of what digital photography and touching up in photoshop can do nowadays. Digital photography is just as much about tech as anything else, and a showcase of a naturally occurring phenomenon puts it in the science category as well. I see this as a great blend of tech and art. Tech does not exist in a vacuum, it is all around us.
- meatago, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I see the double rainbow every couple weeks out my apartment window in Honolulu. I love Hawaii!
- gamekid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I showed vonskippy's comment just to bury it again.
These rainbows, like unicorns, are kickass. - basselope, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I remember this guy's work being sent around the net as hurricane Katrina rolling in (not by him, someone pirated him.)
The auroras are spectacular, I never knew they came down that far into the U.S. - ShaolinTiger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13rd one down is AMAZING, truly breathtaking.
- BurtDiggler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I guess I expected a little more from the 3rd highest rated story in Digg in 2006...
- BassCadet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Great picture. Parts of Missouri really are pretty. Much prettier than my state (Kansas).
- n00854180t, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The fisheye pics are great. I'd use them as a desktop background if there were larger versions.
- green67, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@ geeko(&D.Bush)...thank you for sharing this with us.Definatley some of the most beautiful rainbow shots I've had the pleasure of seeing.....dugg
- iWorks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think the ground is fake in the picture which is throwing off your entire perception of what is happening... it's clearly 'shopped
