- sikosmurf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14royall64: If you cut a hole in a piece of paper (or make a circle with your hand) and change the opacity while only looking through the hole, you will see that nothing about the color changes. Please don't make assumptions unless you want to sound like an idiot.
- noodlez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12i'm still paranoid about flash "optical illusions".
i keep bracing for a screaming scary face or some ***** like that. - guytoronto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11"The color perception ones (the first ones) are fake. Like the last one with the two "brown" tiles. One is brown, but the other one is orange. A brown rectangle just fades in on top of the orange to make it look like they are both brown."
I thought so too. Then I did a screen capture, took it into Photoshop, and masked out everything else. They are indeed both the same shade of brown. - DarkChapinko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Man.... I'm still having trouble believing some of the "color perception" ones. Crazy...
- macamatition, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11The wrod oene iis pettry cool
- Skitzzo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I know right? I like the Mona Lisa one too.
- StealthPersona, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@pahoehoe: No. The frsit and lsat lrttees hvae to be the smae.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5i think we can never trust video and flash on the internet 100%
- SmackMyMac, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6This crap is really humbling. When you come to the realization that you are not in as much control over yourself as you think you are. Really takes you down a peg.
- cptspanky, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4This has been shown to be (mostly) FALSE and this little paragraph has been circulating for some time now. The reason it's false is a little complicated, but it's clear that whoever wrote it picked words where the letters, when jumbled, could only fit a very small number of possible words so that anyone reading it would perceive the claim as correct even though its just careful word choice.

(if you scroll down you'll find that same paragraph and an explanation of whats going on) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i like the union flag one, seeing it in its natural colours
- Redscowl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Aaaarrgh, there are worms under the skin on the back of my hand LOL.
No kidding, that is impressive. - theOster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2try reading this:
Anidroccg to crad cniyrrag lcitsiugnis planoissefors at an uemannd,
utisreviny in Bsitirh Cibmuloa, and crartnoy to the duoibus cmials of
the ueticnd rcraeseh, a slpmie, macinahcel ioisrevnn of ianretnl
cretcarahs araepps sneiciffut to csufnoe the eadyrevy oekoolnr.
significantly more difficult - ToeKneeDee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You're not doing it correctly. The first and last letters of the words must be in the correct order.
(StealthPersona types faster than me :) - teken894, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@pahoehoe
Can't really read it when you switch the first and last letters no...no without conscious effort!
It's our creative geniuses at work :P - Skitzzo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2That one was my favorite... I wanted to email the link to every Spelling/English teacher I've ever had lol
- ricin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Claim: University researchers demonstrate the order of letters within words is unimportant to reading comprehension.
Status: Undetermined.
http://www.snopes.com/language/apocryph/cambridge.asp - borninda818, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The spiral one was nice. It actually looks like there is something crawling under the skin of your hand...and I just got back from Black Xmas...not gunna sleep well tonight
- Vinthian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nice find there, gonna start looking at all of 'em now ;)
- psyon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1When I checked the colors in GIMP, they were different. Only on the ones with the brown tiles though.
- SnakeO, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1For me this puzzle was easy to read the words but hard to 'read' the colors:

I'm wondering if a more right-brained person would have the opposite problem? - Jjcd7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I feel for that, I was really, really annoyed. I knew it looked odd, so I turned the contrast way up, and then the picture changed after a while. Then, I went to go enter it, and it did it. I wasn't looking at it though, so that's good. It was on subliminal messaging or something, where this one guy submitted everything there, apparently.
I thought the Mona Lisa was going to come and scream or something. - Skitzzo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1hahaha sorry mate... also if you look at the spiral and then look at the wall it looks like its coming at you. Kinda cool too
- Muncher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What's an illusion about the "breathing shapes" one? I could immediately tell what I was seeing. The Mona Lisa one blows my mind though, and so do the color recognition ones.
- UltraAyla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://www.michaelbach.de/ot/ is a much better site featuring controllable illusions - I always go there to trip up friends
- ReaperUnreal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1See, I had the opposite problem. I couldn't really tell about the breathing one imediately, but the mona lisa one just didn't work at all on me.
- teken894, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1WIthout looking at the (spoiler) screenshot, I couldn't figure it out! I just thought there was a shape enlarging, flipping and getting small again...
- ryland2, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4This is a MUCH BETTER SITE, It has 67 Illusions total including all of these, the descriptions are also much better. Look at the site before you bury this comment, it really is much better.
http://digg.com/design/67_of_the_Most_Amazing_Optical_Illusions_You_Will_Ever_See - yahoofrom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1something gone wrong with mine eyes.
- thescimitar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, the cube with the orange and brown squares on adjacent sides does indeed have a slight color variation, but it's really small, literally a single value difference in the blue channel (measured both in PS and with an ICC proofing system at the center of the squares). I don't know for certain if that's enough to increase the intensity of the illusion or not. It definitely freaks my brain out though.
- thescimitar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wonder if the way the brain processes the Mona Lisa's distorted face has anything to do with the same part of the brain that is affected in people with "face blindness", from that story a couple weeks ago.
- AustinMeoang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Can someone tell me if these are safe, I'm wondering if any are screamers, you never know these days.
- stoneymason, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The black, white and grey one should. I had to take a screen shot of that one and put it in Photoshop to make sure. :)
- EricCiccone, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The color perception tricks don't really work for me, I'm color blind :P
The spiral one reminds me of my psychedelic trips! - jrothra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What can I say... cool illusions!
- nsharp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Somehow, I see the dimples/pimples image as pimples first, dimples next. anyone else see it that way?
- delirious0me, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0awesome
- fuckingusername, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0nice
- Gogogo111, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Yeah I'm not touching the Mona Lisa one. Thing will be a screamer I know it.
- pahoehoe, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3cna yuo erda ti hwne I wsithc elttesr ta hte rfont nad hte abkc fo aehc owdr?
- Rhelim, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3Is anyone else tired of Optical Illusion posts?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -28/+4The color perception ones (the first ones) are fake. Like the last one with the two "brown" tiles. One is brown, but the other one is orange. A brown rectangle just fades in on top of the orange to make it look like they are both brown.
