- wrboyce, on 08/24/2008, -6/+36Certain Dr Who episode comes to mind..
- JakeW, on 08/24/2008, -4/+29I must not have that protein
- BoneheadFarker, on 08/24/2008, -2/+23As long as they don't kill me, they are welcome to take my fat and make babies out of them. Really, if an alien civilization came to Earth and just told us the plan, they'd probably have millions signing up voluntarily.

- getrealnow, on 08/24/2008, -2/+16I AM EATING A STICK OF BUTTER AND YOU CAN'T STOP ME!
- geneticlemon, on 08/24/2008, -13/+23Or ... *or* ... fat people who want to lose weight can just exercise and eat right. I dunno. I'm just going out on a limb here.
- Slothy88, on 08/24/2008, -1/+11The body has a way of preventing that from happening (negative feedback). Look at it the opposite way: people with excess white fat cells aren't bouncing around the living room because of having too much energy now are they?
- PseudoThink, on 08/24/2008, -4/+14To all the "clever" people who like to suggest "EAT RIGHT AND EXERCISE, DUMBASS" (or something to that effect), you guys are ignorant, and sometimes also self-righteous *****. Unless you're just intentionally being an ass, you are making the assumption that all peoples' bodies are roughly equal and that obesity is a lifestyle choice. There is plenty of evidence to the contrary.
PS - No I am not overweight, and yes I exercise regularly. However, even when I sat around and played World of Warcraft for 30+ hours a week and ate poorly, I didn't gain weight. My girlfriend is bulimic, and she tells me she never feels "full", something that began early in her childhood. How easy would it be for you to not get overweight or develop an eating disorder if you never felt full? - jasmus, on 08/24/2008, -2/+11I'm so sick of people thinking it's that easy to lose weight, especially lots of weight. Thank you for saying that.
- Albear89, on 08/24/2008, -5/+13Just smoke methamphetamine. It's not some big secret.
- orlyfactor, on 08/24/2008, -1/+8I couldn't get past the image in the article. After seeing nothing but toned and in-shape bodies in the Olympics, my eyes cannot take fat and cellulite of that magnitude.
- Xihix, on 08/24/2008, -3/+10Like everyone else is saying, eat the correct amount of calories your body burns, and exercise 5-7 times a week. I did so, and I dropped 56 lb in just six months. w00t
- thegrantman, on 08/24/2008, -0/+6They keep the house clean.
- clkou, on 08/24/2008, -3/+8Great news. Now in 70 years they'll be able to use this technology to make us thin, just like they'll be able to use all these cures for AIDS and cancer when we're all dead. Thanks for nothing, science! :/
- VitriolAndAngst, on 08/24/2008, -3/+8Shortcuts WILL fix the problem.
The problem is our diet and lack of exercise. We could ban all the sugar and corn syrup in kids food. It's been show recently that too much sugar burns out our appetite suppressing hormones (as does old age).
Sure it is great for people to have self discipline -- and it's great that people promote that. It just isn't realistic. People act en mass a certain way, and berating them isn't going to change that. There are a lot of people who feel helpless and depressed because of their weight and that is a vicious cycle.
I'm not fat myself -- but I know that's because my metabolism is higher. Not because I'm a better person. - FullMetalNIN, on 08/24/2008, -5/+10Here's an idea, PUT THE FORK DOWN!
- orlyfactor, on 08/24/2008, -2/+7It's like taking steroids to build muscle - taking the "easy" way out never feels good. Maybe people should just eat better and exercise more; I know I'm coming from left field here, but come on, put some effort forth and the rewards are that much sweeter.
- Ne007, on 08/24/2008, -0/+4Waiting for the part where is says, "will take 10 years of testing and even then may not reach the public".
No way in hell something like this will reach the public. I've hear a lot of crazy ***** about medicine and haven't seen ANY of it in reality. - Reostat, on 08/24/2008, -12/+16There seems to be a lot of touchy fatties on Digg.
All comments about eating right, working out, etc. are being dugg down. Get off your lazy asses, there's no need for a magic pill/whatever to do something that you could do yourself if you weren't so lazy.
You only think you're the 1 in a million with some genetic disorder that causes you to be fat. - vickers500, on 08/24/2008, -5/+9You mean 80% of digg users?
- jasmus, on 08/24/2008, -0/+4You need proteins. Especially if you're exercising.
- gcnaddict, on 08/24/2008, -2/+6What about those who can't actually lose weight on their own? There was a study done that correlated high carb intake with the early death of appetite control cells. There are also those who might've been debilitated by disease or injury.
This is a perfectly reasonable and useful medical advance. Not everything is an excuse to be lazy. - AxsToro, on 08/24/2008, -0/+4I didn't need to see that picture...
- inactive, on 08/24/2008, -1/+4Yes.
- Rixar13, on 08/24/2008, -0/+3Hopefully it will be successful at helping many people.
- cavie2002, on 08/25/2008, -0/+3if all the fat girls lose weight then who else is gonna let u bang them??
- steppinrazor88, on 08/24/2008, -2/+5so now people don't have to eat right or exercise. we can all take pills and lose weight!!! seriously though, i think options like this should be prescribed to people who have actual metabolic problems, not anyone who doesn't want to put any effort into taking care of their bodies.
- brycelb, on 08/24/2008, -0/+3I certainly agree that most people could drop weight if they were more aware of how they were eating but this smacks of the skinny person standing on the soap telling other people how they are ***** up.. It's ignorant to assume that all people are the same and your simple solution is the answer. It's not like fat people don't already know this. If these ideas were actually viable we would have no alcoholics, drug addicts, or any other kind of dependent personalities. As is usually the case, reality is more complicated than that.
- RobotBuddha, on 08/24/2008, -1/+4"How easy would it be for you to not get overweight or develop an eating disorder if you never felt full?"
Pretty easy. I was on caloric restriction for years, and you better believe I was hungry when I was literaly on the borderline of starvation. I've done every other day fasting for a fair amount of time as well. Even now I don't eat until I feel full. So I'm either slightly hungry, or very hungry most of the time. Here's the thing though, it's only a big deal if you obsesses over the feeling. I'm hungry, sure, but there's enough in my life I consider more important than that feeling to the point where it's hardly noticeable. And I'm only doing it on a 'slight' chance that it'll give me a few extra years of life from the mild caloric restriction. - Daxx22, on 08/24/2008, -0/+3Calcium in their McFlurries.
- schultenick, on 08/25/2008, -0/+2It's a tarp
- goon5000, on 08/24/2008, -1/+3ok, but that doesn't help the millions of "big boned" ladies, they need to figure out what makes their bones so big.
- bmystry, on 08/24/2008, -0/+2Well there's your problem right there, stop exercising.
- SniperXPX, on 08/24/2008, -3/+5Is the pool big enough for them?
- brycelb, on 08/24/2008, -1/+3It does work. I just don't think turning into a tweaker is all that much of an improvement
- lisaawesome, on 08/24/2008, -1/+3I had put on 15 pounds and was disgusted with myself until I found this magical cure. It's called get up and ***** move. I didn't even have to cut down much on what I ate. I just got off my ***** ass. It's a miracle!
- brycelb, on 08/24/2008, -0/+2Just imagine if everything took that loooong. You'd still be using a typewriter. Luckily science moves at a brisker pace.
- steppinrazor88, on 08/24/2008, -0/+2congratulations
- Frumbler, on 08/25/2008, -1/+3Do you think anorexics should just get off their asses and eat? Must be nice when you think life is so easy and simple.
- SilverBlade2k, on 08/24/2008, -5/+7Oh yeah, education....that's been tried...and failed miserably.
- RobotBuddha, on 08/24/2008, -0/+2A podcast I'm subscribed to sent out t-shirts to people who donated. An intern had the most awesome quote "I've never seen the word extra large so much in my life."
- dioxys, on 08/24/2008, -0/+2If you're obeese, sweating is the least of your problems. Come on...
- adrianc1982, on 08/24/2008, -0/+2Another cure for the digg world, cancer, aids and now you get to be slim with a pill
- jasmus, on 08/24/2008, -1/+3yeah fat people, get out and exercise more so I can make fun of you for at least trying to do as I tell you!
/sarcasm - thegrantman, on 08/24/2008, -0/+2Ummmm......that's getting off your fat ass.
- gcnaddict, on 08/24/2008, -0/+2Use the AC?
Catch the flu?
Go to the pool?
Take a shower?
The list goes on. - Waterrat, on 08/25/2008, -0/+1 How about no longer feeding corn to all the critters we eat and putting corn and corn syrup in everything we buy?
That alone would help a LOT. -
