- jayrok, on 08/16/2008, -29/+341Ah yes, China was already perfecting it's faking skills back then.
- Rev0lver, on 08/15/2008, -18/+238That 38 states map looks like someone gave a drunk guy a pen and told him to draw America.
- inactive, on 08/16/2008, -10/+159NIce digg, MBM. Don't forget about the New World Order map (pre-WWII):

- leontes, on 08/16/2008, -4/+80Wait. What? Two exact stories, both make front page around the same time, one with the word /Pics in it, the other without, in two different categories.
Both go to: http://www.mentalfloss.com/blogs/archives/17550

Both have this comment in them! - inactive, on 08/16/2008, -1/+69This must have been an exciting post for the two cartographers that frequent digg.
- Aeroboy, on 08/16/2008, -2/+58Serious LOL @ "Hebrewland"
- tpmidd, on 08/16/2008, -1/+49"Because the current states were being chopped up beyond recognition, part of his plan included renaming the new states by referencing natural geologic features or the region’s cultural history."
Ok, but why did he rename Hawaii....he didn't change anything. - inactive, on 08/16/2008, -5/+51lol at the "downright racist" map
- hfactor, on 08/16/2008, -0/+40How is 1942 "pre-WWII"?
- tripledjr, on 08/15/2008, -12/+43Except for the names, had it been easier to put in effect, it would have actually benefited the US, as well as its economy. Boy doesn't that sound nice right about now?
- palehorse864, on 08/16/2008, -6/+34I think the people digging you down either didn't look at the map, or just didn't get it.
- inactive, on 08/16/2008, -10/+35To be honest I think they have have taken the rewritten Chinese map out of context. The second map might have been based on the original Chinese map and updated with elements of the English, Dutch, French and Spanish maps of the time given Spice trade had already existed for 150 years. (Spice = Special) (Cinamon was worth its weight in gold)
Another argument is the "island" of California. An easy mistake to make given the way the ocean cuts in to the North American coastline. If you never actually sailed it, you could assume quite easily the whole thing joins at San Fransisco given the mountains behind the California coast would lead you to that conclusion.
I am not dismissing the map or making any conclusions from it. It is what it is, a re-written based on the 1400's map with elements of modern information that might not have been clearly sited. The remains of those Chinese ships exist, and so to does the dry docks. They are massive for a timber ship. I think they did superbly for the time.
Calling them fake for this is not accurate. Calling the articles author vexatious might be more accurate. - suckaPU, on 08/16/2008, -2/+26the 38 states map would probably make more sense than the garbage we have set up now
- tmyprod, on 08/16/2008, -0/+23It was.
- faraggi, on 08/16/2008, -0/+22AND... it´s doubly controversial, because it´s drawn on the "2. The One Where Greenland & Africa are the Same Size" map.
- sc0tty0, on 08/16/2008, -0/+22European Space Agency melds hundreds of cloud free NOAA satellite images into one world view.
http://www.spacetoday.org/images/Sats/Tracking/Wor ... - ladbroke, on 08/16/2008, -10/+32I don't know about calling the state "Chesapeake," but I've always been a vocal supporter of Maryland's forceful annexation of Delaware.
- mdmcgee, on 08/16/2008, -0/+16It seems that the term racist has lost all practical meaning.
People seem to use it to refer to everything, but actual racism. - crashbang, on 08/16/2008, -2/+19Geez. I have enough problems spelling Pennsyva....Penns....ya know PA.
- hfactor, on 08/16/2008, -1/+16Except for those who lived there, of course.
- kazamx, on 08/16/2008, -0/+14Wow, thats a really interesting map, thanks for that.
- notwizt, on 08/16/2008, -1/+15It actually looks like a great idea to me...
- brotherfranciz, on 08/16/2008, -3/+17MrBabyMan is at it again...
- zcreem, on 08/16/2008, -4/+18It would be so much easier if folks would except the truth that the World is flat, making maps is so much easier when you do.

- Eddiecoaster, on 08/16/2008, -1/+12Yea that's stupid. Why rename Hawaii?
- elbergel, on 08/16/2008, -0/+10http://strangemaps.wordpress.com/
You guys might find this blog interesting! - j2002, on 08/16/2008, -2/+12Everyone knows it was either the viking Leif Erikson or prince Madog of Wales who made it to America first.
- inactive, on 08/16/2008, -0/+10Dear 238-34-4480,
I’m writing to express the joy I have as I have been approved for a new position; my new job will be a #1142 in section 78! I’m so excited to be working with our fried 448-98-1127, I tell him you said hello. Oh, and I’ll also be working with 248-78-1667, she’s sooooo hot! Are you jealous?
Your friend,
118-50-6570
PS. My web account will be soon upgraded too, starting 12/10/24 I’ll be at 200.16.151.42.141 - wonderbriefs, on 08/16/2008, -2/+11I'm all for it. I'd love to say I was born and raised a Superiorian.
- icexe, on 08/16/2008, -1/+10The Republic of Cascadia idea makes a lot of sense if you live in the pacific NW. http://zapatopi.net/cascadia/.
The differences between the western and eastern parts of Washington, Oregon and British Columbia go way beyond mere geographical and climate differences (very wet vs. very dry); there is also a huge cultural divide, the western sections being far more culturally diverse and politically liberal, the east being far more conservative and reserved. - Myonosken, on 08/16/2008, -0/+8Cochise sounds badass.
- crossmr, on 08/16/2008, -6/+14I don't see why the guy needed to be drunk.. you walk around america and give people pens... ..
.
.
actually.. that would be an interested exercise.. - inactive, on 08/16/2008, -0/+8Thanks for the link bro, really cool map.
But! At the bottom it even says, "Post War New World Map" - it was drawn in 1942, so its kind of hard to say that it's a pre-World War 2 map, when in fact it was towards the middle. - praisethelard, on 08/16/2008, -0/+8I definitely like San Gabriel's set up. Southern California plus Vegas? Awesome.
- fajitamelt, on 08/16/2008, -1/+9It's Mr.-*****-babyman. He's copying other people's submissions. Frankly, I'm getting tired of it.
- timpkmn89, on 08/16/2008, -7/+15It's funny that the state of Chesapeake doesn't even include Chesapeake, VA.
- chimpymcsmirky, on 08/16/2008, -0/+8Actually, there are four of us. :)
- hihyooka, on 08/16/2008, -0/+8I'd move to a state named Mohawk.
- martoq, on 08/16/2008, -2/+10Having read this, I have to agree with the 38 states. It might be crazy enough to work! Being in NY and having to live with the NYC tax burden I would be extremely happy to see something like this become a reality.
- dwright99, on 08/16/2008, -0/+7Well, he got rid of panhandles. I hate panhandles.
- alexforcefive, on 08/16/2008, -1/+8sexypeon - unless you are 100% certain you could accurately draw a map of america, you probably shouldn't call it "hating on americans"
it's just a fact. who the ***** can draw a map of their own country? it would be interesting to see the attempts. - GenericNumber1, on 08/16/2008, -3/+10Get rid of the senate? Then the low-population states wouldn't have much say in how things go. The house/senate system was a fairly great compromise!
I know, I groaned too. - stealthc, on 08/16/2008, -0/+7I'll trade you ads. I keep getting pestered with ads for dating service. Are diggers really so lonely that these ads make money for the site?
- inactive, on 08/16/2008, -4/+11This makes the US plan look like child's play.
- inactive, on 08/16/2008, -0/+7there's more people in rhodie than in wyoming or alaska, how is it ridiculous?
