- melement, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hrrm . .. Let's see. . . I have a very original idea, I will start this sleeping method, and then I will blog it.

http://digg.com/science/Getting_by_on_3_hours_of_sleep_a_day - Drood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I seem to recall this story popped up elsewhere a few months ago (Boing Boing?) and some doctors said that basically, you're risking serious health issues doing this, the least of which was psychosis.
- cbags, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The are people that race sailboats singlehanded around the world that have been doing this since the late 80's. Basically just taking cat naps all the time.
- mistshadow2k4, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Obviously this wouldn't work for insomniacs like myself, who frequently have a great deal of trouble getting to sleep in the first place. But for some those lucky "asleep as soon I hit the pillow" bastar.... uh, people, this might be itneresting to try. Keep in mind that it would definitely require discipline and a flexible schedule though.
- Protoss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Didn't Kramer from Seinfeld do this? Or attempt this?
- aoeu2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1When I first read his blog entry about how to become an early riser, I was impressed by the simplicity and originality. Then I delved into his site and became entralled by his "wisdom." Silly me, he's an idiot; so are his blog entries. Somebody shoot this guy, please.
- oddball, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1looks like the site is taking a nap...
- Cosine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yeah... when someone points out every two lines how vegan they are I just seem to lose interest...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://www.stevepavlina.com.nyud.net:8090/blog/2005/10/polyphasic-sleep/
- ahrefd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1if i didn't have to sleep...i'd be a rich man. regardless though i'm a vain sob, rejuvination is my hor. studies suggest that sleep is vital to revitalization and a healthy life. regardless, i'd rather not sleep as is just a pain in the arse to wake up in the morning....cool. digg++
- Mousse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is a very interesting read, especially considering the author is sharing his experience of adjusting to and being in consistent polyphasic sleep for so long.
I don't think I'll give this a try any time soon, though, since it will interfere heavily with my class schedule.
Digg. - zeeone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The site was down for me. The guy must have fallen asleep on the keyboard...
- toad3k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I read an account of two people attempting this in a book recently. Basically it turned out how you'd think it would. They did this schedule for about 6 days and then fell asleep for the next 24 hours.
- dirtyfratboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0dude should write a book about his expereinces
- xodex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ever heard of it? of course I've been under this method for the past 8 years.
- HPSauce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Power naps are great when you need the brain for some late night revision or intensive mental activity... but for a way of life? No thanks.
A good reason for this is the number of times you lose your "rhythm" - I don't know about the rest of you, but for me after a few hours work or play I feel like I'm on a high, only for the day to end and I need to get some sleep. By the time I wake up, that "high" has gone. In fact, I prefer the way some animals and birds hibernate during the winter - one massive deep sleep for a few months of the year, then come out and for the rest on a 24/7 state would be great. - hardkoretom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this regiment isnt as good as sleeping for 2 hours every 2 hours. many people who do this have higher creativity due to the non lack of sleep. if i didnt have a day job i would surely try that
- dielawn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i go to sleep around 12:00-1:00, wake up at around 6:10-6:30. not as extreme as this guy, and not the same sleeping pattern, but this sounds like a fun summer project. school gets in the way of everything...school and chores.
- DellMan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ive been doing this for a while without even knowing it!
- Burns, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I do this already bed at 2:30 wake up at 6:30
its no big deal - Protoss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Very cool though, I want to try it, mebe over the summer :P
- TheWorkz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I am going to go for it.. Digg.
- cybertrip, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0to melement you their where other ones but i still submitted this as he had a very good write up on his experiences with it.
- michaelburns, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There is a forum for people that are trying this.... http://www.polyphasicsleep.com/forum/
- saon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I believe da vinci also did something similar to this.
- Nameless1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hmm, very awesome! :) i wonder if this sheldue is more flexible, like, 4 naps every 6 hrs, 1 hour long. (that would be so awesome)
- xodex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0if you do this you wont grow up specially young people dont you dare to try this

Your comment is 100% acurrate. I'm 21 However I get comments from people everytime I meet someone, How old are you? So I let them take a guess... Range of age 12-16 tops and almost no one says around 16, My body and face looks so young, I can match my grade school pictures if I shave and comb my hair the way I did.
I started while I was in school, I blame the internet ;D Slept at school when ever I got the chance (during class) Got home and was refreshed for that days coding.
The benifits of this however is... Once life finds a way and forcefully ages me, By the time I'm like I don't know... 32+ I'll be hitting 20? (Body Wise). Hopefully anyways... - JcbAzPx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I would try this, but for some strange reason my boss doesn't like it when I take 30min. naps at work.
Completely unreasonable person if you ask me. - aantix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Steve is always pushing the envelope regarding the human spirit. His whole site deserves a dig.
- burke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"if you do this you wont grow up specially young people dont you dare to try this"
Have a reference? Grammar, maybe? - cybertrip, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yeah thats how i found this blog was by reading his how to be an early riser one
- tolbs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0apparently the community is taking a break on the attention span. This story was huge on digg 3-4 months ago!
- Jackel003, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Polyphasic sleep is dangerous.
- Maverick83, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah, great idea. Health issues and your body shuts down whether you take the nap or not. People who adjust to this kind of thing must adhere to the schedule, or they crash. They fail to function correctly if they decide to "stay up". We normal people just get tired.
Man, this sounds like a great idea. Guess what retards, humans weren't meant to sleep like this. Dogs and cats sleep like this because they can. They're different creatures. - Lacero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0No thank you. I'll stick to my 8 hours.
- JennyInJamaica, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dupe or not, dangerous or not, I'm facsinated. Dugg!
- curtissthompson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0and for all those interested in polyphasic sleep/want to know more about it wikipedia has a good site describing it and the basics behind it (only a novice explaination though, not for those who already understand the polyphasic sleep cycle)!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyphasic_sleep - ice2004, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0if you do this you wont grow up specially young people dont you dare to try this
- ahdanielsan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It deserves a Digg for sheer stupidity. It's dark at night, the TV sucks, and everyone else is asleep. Other than that, this idea could really take off!
- Cyanic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0to be the devil's advocate: how do we know this is all true?
From what I read sounds like a fantasy then reality. I think this skepticism is also justified since this guy has commercial interest with hits he gets on this site, surely when it is in front page digg. I would be very cautious even for the validity of this story. - BESTenemy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How to adjust to this? Hell! I'm more concerned with adjusting back to the regular sleeping pattern afterwards!
- Laury, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have read in many articles that Margaret Thatcher only slept 4 hours a night. Not sure if this was her method or if she napped during the day. I have also read that she was becoming very unconnected with reality towards the end of her time as Prime Minister. She is still very much alive though; in her late eighties I think.
- JiMiThInG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dupe or not.. I'm glad it ended up on the front page of Digg, simply b/c it allowed me to find and bookmark Steve's blog. I'm not a huge fan of Blogs and there are not very many I follow on a very regular basis, however Steve's seems full of interesting stuff to read. I'm sure its possible the guy is totally full of BS but I get the gut feeling that he is an honest over achiever. In any case some of his posts make for a pretty interesting read.
- rtfx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0SteveP is a freak of nature. Not in the sense that he's deformed but that he either has the kind of willpower and concentration on long-term goals to do these insane things of his(graduate from a CSU with a dual major in CS and math in 3 semesters, go vegan, now this...), or he's insane and has managed to decieve the world for over a decade on how much he has triumphed over "the norm." He did run a shareware game business for some time, and the games were pretty good - not groundbreaking but sellable and well-marketed, and he had decent advice to other indies on how to run such a business....but every time I see his site come up I start having to wonder if he's for real. He just seems TOO PERFECT. STOP OVERACHEVING, STEVE.
- Cyberdactyl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How do you think Jack Bauer functions for God sakes!
- messiah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Whats the big deal ? I can tell you that I only ever get 3-5 hours sleep a night, and have done since i was a teenager. I am now 30 and It has had no adverse effects on me. Every so often I will have a long 8 or so hours of sleep, but this is about 1 or 2 times a month if that. I know im not sleeping in small 30 minute blocks, But i dont think that would work for me given my current lifestyle....maybe if i was retired or something. Mostly i get around 4 hours sleep per night , but it does vary from 3 to 5 hours
- Mushroonaut, on 07/11/2008, -0/+0site is under deep digg effect!
- compressedaudio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I may try this.
giving up tea, weed, beer, animal products will be most difficult. -
