- super_structure, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3See, this is why it's a waste of time to try and protect animals, birds, whales, trees, etc. Every time we humans make a species extinct, we just go and discover another, thus restoring the balance. We don't have to be bothered with this search, but we do it anyway. This story makes me feel okay about driving over bald eagle chicks with my Hummer. ;)

- cbags, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0While I HATE bugs...this is pretty neat.
- archanoid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wonder if there are any cat-spiders in there...
- teh_toaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There's way too many animals that I don't know about for this to actually matter to me, but when they start getting lasers on their foreheads let me know.

I agree with cielerella. There are so many things that we don't even know about our own planet yet we spend so much money on trying to figure other ones out. Maybe we should put a little more into learning about our own planet. - wthulhu, on 08/29/2009, -0/+0digg
not a lot of info in the article, but I'll digg it anyway.
creepy little insects. - Vulpes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Metior with super fast evolution cycle must have landed in one of those caves... Watch, in 2 weeks we will be sticking toothpaste into a giant one cell organism.
- Kikkoman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0can i say gotta catch'em all?
- cielerella, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've always been amazed that we've travelled as far as the moon, but still haven't discovered all the life here on Earth. Digg.
- doorman444, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0^^^wasn't it shampoo
- RobSaint, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Did ya see the one eyed kitten? Weird little critter only lived a day, which is strange as the eye was open already. normally they don't open their eyes for days.
- Xopl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"GROSS! SICK!"

- dongiaconia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How.... cute? Interesting to see the psuedo-scrorpion. It's funny because I know its real, but it reminds of the invisible objects photoshop contest.
++Digg - turgiddahlia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ghettoyi: Probably not, but then again, quite possible, as one of these unique insects may just happen to secrete a magical cure. Further, you're making a blanket assumption that AIDS needs to be cured, and that scientists of all stripes should be concentrating on that, when, in fact, an insectologist (I know there's a proper name but can't be arsed finding out what it is) would be of very little use in antiviral research.
- turgiddahlia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I remember Ricky Gervais had something to say about this sort of stuff, wherein naturalists etc. must be on some sort of quota system, earning a few quid for every "new" species discovered:
"So what've you got?"
"A very very very slightly longer-eared bat."
"Oh yeah? What about that one?"
*points to it* "Chubby bat." - starexplorer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Coincidentally, the 27 creatures found in these California caves had more of a pulse than the Hollywood movie 'The Cave' released late last year. HA!
- battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0YEs, it was shampoo, AND it was up the Ass!
- cheese06, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0omg just like in that movie "The Descent." If you haven't watched it then i recommend you do because it is the BEST thriller/horror flick out there now! Unconventional movie at its best!
