- pdeco, on 10/11/2007, -7/+30>> Take everything off your desk and put it in a pile on the floor.
I did this and the ***** just sat on the floor for a few weeks. - DrOBoogie, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9If a cluttered desk is a sign of a cluttered mind, what is an empty desk a sign of?
- silversilver, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9#1 Get rid of your girlfriend and the crap she brings.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7My system worked really good.... It's called divorce....
- computergod, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Actually, there is a reply button. It is a pretty good way to filter information as long as you know how to use it.
- ByronT, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6Are people stupid enough to actually need a list like this?
- bruinexmo, on 10/11/2007, -4/+7Step 1 of 1: When you find useless ***** in your house/office/car, get rid of it.
Somebody had to write an entire article on this topic? - mnrosebud, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3 "reduce your consumption of news and television, get rid of magazine subscriptions. Keep information to a bare minimum"
yes, in the information age we should minimize our intake of information. That's the best way to succeed. - jakash, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Nerds point of view:
'"The only things that should be on your desk now are the computer..." - but what about the recycle bin!?' - spambutcher, on 10/11/2007, -0/+21. Take everything off your desk and put it in a pile on the floor. Clear out the drawers too, if you have time. The only things that should be on your desk now are the computer, phone and other similar equipment.
2. OK, here's the meat of the process: Set the pile on fire. - salinemist, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Read digg like the rest of us.
- NineElders, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I need a "How to convince a slob to clean up THIER useless crap. Packrats, the people with a serious problem, will never change their ways by just reading an article.
Packrats compulsively save piles of crap they will never use. I've had packrat roommates. I see neighbors with trash piled to their ceilings in their garages. It's a shabby way to live.
Still I'm amazed how obsessively they defend their piles of trash. Clean off any flat surface and within 24 hours, you will find the space filled with an empty soda can, junk mail, and so on. If you confront them directly, they will explain how they "need" these things.
It's like dealing with heroin addicts. They are addicted to trash. - licoricewhip, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1It is true. Some problems do solve themselves.
- damndj, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I read a book a long time ago about the relief you can get from removing clutter from your life. Before then, I would carry stuff around with me from town to town and it was the kind of stuff I would never use, but just didn't want to throw away.
I tossed 80% of that clutter and it really does make a great difference in your life. You come home and feel a lot more relaxed and everything just feels better. Don't discredit what this article is trying to say. It's a great idea.
"If you look at something and think, "One day I may use this", throw it away. It's clutter" - drgmdp, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1i like my mess
- licoricewhip, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1... and when they come out with a follow-up article on uncluttering the floor ...
- X9001, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Apathy
- NineElders, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0When you were done with the book, did you get rid of it or is it lost under the seat of your car? :)
- chrisinsocalif, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Easy, hire a maid.
- Dubkiller, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0In the immortal words of Travis Bickle "One of these days I'm going to get organizized"
- hulez, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0but how will the maid remove clutter from your mind?
- hulez, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0no, in any given situation there is always 2 possible choices
- aduelley, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0I think we all know how to remove the clutter, we just lack motivation. This should be a motivational article instead.
- chrisinsocalif, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0No more shoes to trip on and tampons in the trashcan.
- hulez, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0what will you do without sex.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0You have a local dump in your house?
- cbarge, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Yet another lifehack that I have ***** been doing since I was 12.
- fdw2006, on 10/11/2007, -7/+6Actualy, Digg is a pretty good way to filter your information as long as you know how to do it. If you are friends with people that submit good content, grab their feeds instead of trolling. If you use this site the right way, you can monitor information that interests you as opposed to reading spam and a bunch of crap.
- purple, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Everybody I know that smokes pot stays up cleaning all night when they are stuck indoors with no more food.
- GilliamOS, on 10/11/2007, -4/+3Cleaning is just an illusion. All you're doing is relocating your crap to another location, even if it is the local dump.

Chaos is a natural and necessary part of human existance, get used to it.
I would rather live with stress than let life flash past me without it. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1Only 1 way to react to this story. BURY.
- ZephyrNinety, on 10/11/2007, -6/+21. Stop posting this same article over and over on Digg.
