- buddamus, on 05/28/2009, -0/+26Doom will never go out of fashion
- UEichen, on 05/28/2009, -2/+27Classic Doom Multiplayer? that, and THAT alone, would get me to buy an Ipod touch.
- eleminop, on 05/28/2009, -1/+13Should be easy for Carmack, someone else already has it running pretty good on the G1.

- monkeyhero, on 05/28/2009, -0/+10It's IDKFA
- CowGoesMooo, on 05/28/2009, -0/+10I love Doom, so I can't wait for this to come out, especially saying as the Cydia version is a bit crappy. And John Carmack is such a good programmer it scares me.
- NSResponder, on 05/28/2009, -2/+12Carmack rocks! I can't wait to play this on my phone.
-jcr - Red989, on 05/28/2009, -0/+10Wait, id software is in Dallas? Looks like I'm gonna take a short road trip sometime haha
- BrendanSheehan, on 05/28/2009, -0/+9This guy makes rockets in his spare time.
- RUFiO006, on 05/28/2009, -1/+8Whilst Doom is _technically_ already available to Jailbroken iPhone users, the version of Doom available on Cydia is somewhat limited - particularly with regards to the control method.
The iPhone Wolfenstein control method is great, so i'm glad to see it being used here. - DeadPlasmaCell, on 05/28/2009, -1/+8That was a good read, I can't wait for it. I'm still having fun with Wolfenstein on my iPod!
- gerrylazlo, on 05/28/2009, -0/+7Must be nice having a real GPU to work with. I remember they had Doom for a Sony Mavica camera (the one with the 3.5" floppy). That must have been like programming Crysis for the Atari 2600.
- forthex, on 05/28/2009, -0/+6John Carmack is a programming god, and my life would be satisfactorily complete if I only achieved a quarter of what he's done.
- illuminat, on 05/28/2009, -1/+7But.. I want my DOOM pixelated! Why isn't it running with the HQ2X filter?
- falafelkiosken, on 05/28/2009, -0/+6sweet
- latrosicarius, on 05/28/2009, -0/+4IDFA was better because it didn't give you the keys, so you at least had to play the whole level
- ajsmth, on 05/28/2009, -3/+7But can it play Crysis?
- ifruit, on 05/28/2009, -0/+4IDSPISPOPD
- swmbuk, on 05/28/2009, -1/+5But like Carmack says, it takes longer to actually get it to work well from an interface perspective.
- AlexWiggy, on 05/28/2009, -3/+7It's already out on my Android G1 :D.
- Charlotte_Web, on 05/28/2009, -0/+4It could kickstart a trend of classic PC games being ported to the iPhone from a variety of developers, which would be cool.
- inactive, on 05/28/2009, -0/+3If you like Doom as much as I do, you will want to check out Doom RL (rogue-like). http://doom.chaosforge.org/
It's a Rogue (or nethack) clone set in the Doom universe and it totally rocks. - relaxeder, on 05/28/2009, -0/+3I hate when they try to retrofit these old games with ugly new menus and pixel antialiasing. I wish they would just try to build the original menu and HUD into the iPhone port and make it as vanilla as possible.
- brainflakes, on 05/28/2009, -0/+3I dunno, is it coming to Android too? Full keyboard controls on the G1 FTW :)
- jalpert, on 05/28/2009, -0/+2It's not about the fact that it's out for other devices, it's about the quality of the product. This being official and having the support of the original developer should ensure that it's not just another Doom port to a moble device, but the best port for a mobile device; Hopefully by far.
- inactive, on 05/28/2009, -0/+2Holy crap I was just in Dallas last weekend. Wish I would have known >:(
- designet, on 05/28/2009, -3/+5why bother, doom and quake (1, 2, and 3) have been out on other smartphones for YEARS
- Charlotte_Web, on 05/28/2009, -0/+2I hear there might also be a PC version.
- antdude, on 05/28/2009, -0/+2Been there for over a decade. ;)
- PhoenixSmasher, on 05/28/2009, -1/+3IDK MY BFF JILL
- inactive, on 05/28/2009, -0/+2Rocket Arena!
- deslock, on 05/28/2009, -0/+2It's funny because the "official" version on Android market isn't half as good as the indy developer version. The original didn't have sounds and the controls sucked (and it had "donate" nag screens on every launch).
The indy version has it all... uses the trackball for mouse look and fire with left hand being strafe, map, etc. just like if I was sitting at my PC. Oh yeah, and it's free.
I love awesome, motivated hobby developers. - HerrWolf, on 05/28/2009, -1/+3It would be really weird to have Doom without sprites.
- center311, on 11/05/2009, -0/+1The game looks really good on the iphone. Plays pretty good too. Obviously not as nice as PC but still worth it.
- svensksvamp, on 05/28/2009, -1/+2The Bluetooth capabilities of the iPhone 3.0 will be awesome.
- Charlotte_Web, on 05/28/2009, -0/+1But of course, everyone you're playing against is using the same control scheme.
That's the problem with allowing for better controls, is that it increases the skill of your opponents as well as yourself. - rubberfish, on 11/03/2009, -0/+1id release their FPS Horror classic, and like a fine wine this vintage seems to get better with age… http://www.touchgen.net/doom-classic-review
- bluestatic, on 05/28/2009, -0/+1Not to mention you can actually use decent controls on the PC. I can't image playing Doom deathmatch on the iPhone unless they come up with some amazingly genius control scheme.
- Charlotte_Web, on 05/28/2009, -0/+1http://www.armadilloaerospace.com/n.x/Armadillo/Ho ...
- daridave, on 05/29/2009, -0/+1The control scheme really isn't bad. It's got a learning curve, but so did the original, you just take it for granted now after so many years. Give it a chance. Wolfenstein remake is pretty solid, this looks like it will be even better.
I just hope he puts the cheats in there. Yeah, I said it. I want to go chaingun-happy and "chainsaw cha-cha" (oh man, that used to sound so freaking cool) all over again. - HerrWolf, on 05/28/2009, -0/+1"Mouse support"?
Get off my lawn, kid! - everyunitone, on 05/28/2009, -3/+4For the first time I'm now seriously considering getting an iPhone..
- MrTinker, on 05/28/2009, -2/+3We've had two versions on the G1 for quite some time now.
- Cimlite, on 05/28/2009, -0/+1I agree, it does not look good... both the walls and monsters look blurred.
Unless they really rework the textures etc. I'd rather have it in it's pixelated form. - ninja0, on 05/28/2009, -1/+2Its already on the iphone too. same with quake.
- ninja0, on 05/28/2009, -0/+1Have you seen the quake control method? I love it!
You get these translucent outlines for arrows and a few buttons for movement, firing, switching weapons, looking up and down, etc. - deslock, on 05/28/2009, -0/+1It already is. Full keyboard controls, mouse with the trackball, everything.
Just search on the marketplace. There are two versions but download the one by the independent developer... it's way better (you'll know if you downloaded the right one if it has sound). - mikelieman, on 05/28/2009, -0/+1Rockbox will run Doom. The clickwheel is a very inefficient input mechanism in this context, however.
- diggyduggle, on 05/28/2009, -1/+1i wish doom 2 would come out on xbox live. doom 1 is the only fast-paced fps game that i can play well with the gimpstick controller.
