- DBiz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15While not crying, I feel somewhat the same day.
On Christmas morning (1997, year of OoT release) I came down expecting OoT under the tree from Santa, because he always comes through. It wasn't there because Santa "couldn't find it", or so I was told. I was really, really bummed... Anyways, the first gift I opened was from my Grandma and it was indeed that gold box I was hoping for.
I was 13 at the time, and whenever I hear the Kokiri Forest music it takes me back many Christmases ago... I'm 13 again and playing on my 13" TV/VCR combo. Good times... - Soccer4786, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Video game music is the best!
- themanmachine, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Zelda music is so emotional it makes me cry. I think back to the countless number of hours wasted in my teenhood trying to complete every Zelda game. I think back to it now and it's sad.
- DBiz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8These are great no doubt, but I recommend the Hyrule Orchestra album.
While this does sound great, it doesn't do justice once you've heard the main theme done by a full orchestra. - sid0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7@whaines: Google "Galbadia Hotel". The album is called "Legend of Zelda - Hyrule Symphony".
- DevastatorIIC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Torrents are way at the bottom. Here's one: http://thepiratebay.org/tor/3621052/Zelda_Reorchestrated_(http___www.zreomusic.com)
- sid0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I don't know about 'best', but it sure is a pleasure to hear good video game music while working. Zelda definitely ranks at the top, along with FF6 and PDS.
- Whaines, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Did you play Twilight Princess? I'd say its's just as amazing as OoT.
- norashers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Try http://www.ocremix.org/
They have some fantastic versions of Zelda songs/themes
(I also love their Secret of Mana remixes, that's another game with hauntingly beautiful music) - sid0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yes, it seems like the Hyrule Symphony album. Thank you, DBiz!
- CkMaverick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@whaines
Yup, here you go:
http://www.zeldadungeon.net/Soundtracks-Hyrule-Symphony.php - sid0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@DBiz: Do you mean the Hyrule Symphony album?
- unitedkronos, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6It doesn't take much work to drag and drop MIDIs into a playback program like Native Instruments Bandstand...
http://www.native-instruments.com/index.php?id=bandstand_us - kupa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3OCR is awesome. Some of the remixes are truly awesome. Of course when one only need to pick out remixers like Peeples or Amievil and you'll get awesome stuff no matter what. Their ChipAmp project is nice to, though I've always used SnesAMP/Highly Experimental for my snes/ps1/2 music stuff.
Heh. New music to add to my growing collection of Video Game stuff. At least the VG companies aren't as crazy as the RIAA. Download whatever game music I want and don't have to worry about those "starving artists" - CBanga, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Ocarina was released in 1998, not 1997.
- Elranzer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If by "orchestrated" they mean "MIDIs dropped into a sequencer such as Bandstand" then sure. Generally I think of live performers when I think of orchestrated, but this doesn't have those.
- supermajic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Haven't had a look at this yet, but the last time i looked these (i gather they've been updated since), they were ok, although I still think the originals were better.
- sid0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3This stupid site should be banned from both submissions and comments. Blocked.
- Daveecee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Agreed. The OCR remixes are much better than these. These are okay, but they sound way too much like the original songs. I might as well just listen to the soundtracks.
- TwilightKing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm sorry, but these are bad. They are really good _copies,_ but there's something missing that makes them difficult to listen to, IMO.
- stmiller, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Not quite drag and drop. These are sequenced samples, probably using Cubase, Logic, or a sequencer like that. It's not as easy as you would think. And lots of this stuff is orchestrated out. With live players added.
http://www.htloz.net/forums/showthread.php?t=4519 - ElusiveByte, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2You actually feel like you are inside the world of Hyrule, where a band follows you around wherever you go!
Just playing. I love this! - ruis, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6These were cool when they were first posted. Glad to see the new content.
- jaknet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Not only blocked but reported as abuse. Would be nice to get rid of these ***** spammers for good
- FireGS, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Highly appreciate it!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This is pretty neat. Before this I had always went to http://downloads.khinsider.com/game-soundtracks/browse/all and picked Zelda music.
- iceandrews, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Best Zelda project idea ever.
- Whaines, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Is the Hyrule Symphony album available for free download like this one? If so, where, I'm sure many members of digg would like to check it out, rather than just hear about it.
- capran, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Oh man, listening to those, I was thinking how freaking awesome it would be if the music could be set to a disolving/fading slideshow of screenies from Zelda mixed with various videos of it, kind of like the OS X screensaver, but with videos as well. Every time a new music piece starts, you'd have the logo from the game and info in the corner like a music video. Man I wish I had the skills.
- PigThief, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Where can I find Orchestra? I'm having some trouble.
- hockeysmurf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1First time I've ever dontated with PayPal. And why not, this music kicks ass.
- wizard1218, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1You're at it again!
- FireGS, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1lol sean
- doshindude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1good stuff. great for background music on a surround sound system or something.
- panzeroceania, on 08/31/2008, -0/+0This is a huge release and shot in the arm for the ZREO project, particularly the size and quality of the album and moreover I think releasing the uncompressed wavs was a great choice that I would love to see continue in the future.
- DarkPilot, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2This is an exellant collection. Very well done and a pleasure to listen to.
- Arkz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Orchestra does exist, dunno if he got it confused with Symphony but i have both.
on to the topic at hand these guys are great, most if not all of these songs are awesome, i just donated $10 lol, hope they keep up the fantastic work - thehoodie, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Wow I know the guy who is in charge of this project.
- Logical, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0This reminds me of a project at OCRemix called "Chrono Symphonic" which is a collection of remixes from the game Chrono Trigger. You can find it at http://chrono.ocremix.org/. It's also available via bit-torrent.
- GoldenMaven, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1OoT has some of the best music ever. I remember playing that game when I was 13, bloody loved it.
Let's hope Nintendo stops releasing half-assed sequels to OoT and actually starts producing great Zelda games again. They did say the next one would be the first of it's kind, so it sounds like they're finally putting OoT to rest and will be start fresh.
