- Allstarn08, on 12/21/2008, -140/+670Never realized how ***** the ps3's graphics were
- Zbug, on 12/21/2008, -8/+293Look at the trees for the best comparison, IMHO.
- rowlodge, on 12/21/2008, -44/+306pc lightest, 360 dark, ps3 darkest, PC wins?
- Blizaine, on 12/21/2008, -41/+302so the real difference between all three systems is the darkness, which can be adjusted in the settings on all three systems? They should have calibrated each system better so we could have had a better comparison of the things that count like textures and resolution. I'm sure the PC would have still won, but it would have been more interesting.
Also, I would hope the PC would have had unbelievable graphics since it's graphics card alone cost almost as much as a PS3 or two 360's. - elpresidente408, on 12/22/2008, -11/+271Where's the Wii comparison?
- jjb123, on 12/22/2008, -2/+241Here, I took this screen shot for you.
http://img257.imageshack.us/img257/4909/fallout3od ... - CLShortFuse, on 12/21/2008, -11/+202I'm going to disregard the PC since will it always look best, it doesn't matter. Just fix the gamma.
Fallout 3: 360 has AA, PS3 doesn't. Because of this 360 look blurrier at times and PS3 sharper, but that also means more jaggies on PS3
Dead Space: 360 and PS3 have the same resolution. Both do AA but each do it differently. The PS3 has better bump mapping on textures (or maybe higher resolution better texturing) and PS3 has graphical bugs with shading. (This can be fixed in a new patch, but maybe not)
Call of Duty: PS3 has more noticeable reflections, better emboss filtering, and better textures (very noticeable when you look at your hand holding the gun) but 360's AA seems to work better
GTA4: 360 and PS3 Both have a distinct dithering effect to work like AA. 360 is higher resolution but PS3 has better dither effect. Look at the trees in the last pic. PC does them best.
Please note, none of these factor framerate - ElHeffe, on 12/21/2008, -48/+180Are you crazy? Put on some glasses and take a look again. PC screen shots are way better than the other 2
- silent128, on 12/22/2008, -6/+135lol
- ghostrc, on 12/22/2008, -15/+138So basically they all kinda look the same, yet fanboys will pointlessly argue over this
- inlovingmemory, on 12/22/2008, -14/+125I've said it before on Digg and i'll say it again. Graphics is not the be all or end all of gaming. I am much more into content.
I was watching my mate on his PS3 the other month and he was like, "sick graphics" and i just thought to myself, meh i'd rather play Windwaker.
Content is much more of a factor of gaming to me then graphics.
I was in GameStation the other week and some kid was laughing at me for checking out Super Mario Sunshine on the Gamecube, i said it was a quality game and he said the graphics were *****. i looked at him and said, "dude i really couldn't give a *****" and he was shocked. What's wrong with this new generation of gamers?
/Rant - ptkfgs, on 12/22/2008, -5/+113lol
- MMilitia, on 12/22/2008, -5/+104They did one but it wasn't of broadcast quality.
- InfernoX, on 12/22/2008, -19/+115Step 1: Take a similar picture from each gaming platform
Step 2: Photoshop the brightness levels and add some minor blur effects that aren't in the actul game
Step 3: Cover your site in ads, make multiple pages for each game
Step 4: ???
Step 5: Profit as the fanboys fight it out on your forums generating ad revenue. - t.toe, on 12/22/2008, -4/+92lol
- Daniel591992, on 12/22/2008, -6/+94lol
- quomen, on 12/22/2008, -5/+92lol
- laserdog, on 12/22/2008, -12/+93The comparisons were pretty unfavorable to the PS3. Although not something I'd be able to notice without the side by side.
Still, if the PS3 has priced itself as the "high-end gaming experience", it really should be blowing the other two away, not marginally worse/tied. - nixpix66, on 12/21/2008, -80/+159And they all look the same....
- aguita, on 12/21/2008, -50/+127I was surprised that there was so little difference between the PC and the others. I would have expected a high-end PC to blow the other two out of the water.
- cschoeps, on 12/22/2008, -4/+81\o/
- chaosblade77, on 12/21/2008, -10/+83Now that that's out of the way, can someone please explain the point in this? None of them are "bad" to the point gameplay would be affected, aside from how dark some of the PS3 screenshots are, which can easily be changed.
- Kenelm, on 12/21/2008, -8/+80What are these strips on the back of Isaac in the last screenshot of the PS3. Is that supposed to be a gradient shadow?!
- Renton, on 12/21/2008, -6/+77They used a bleeding edge card in this review, which is kind of pointless unless you're running something like Crysis. A $78 GeForce 8800GTS from newegg can play most of these games at max settings and get the same effect.
- NixiePixel, on 12/21/2008, -5/+75PC looks the best, but honestly that person must be messing with the settings poorly because Fallout 3 can look even better on the PC.
- MasterPlayer, on 12/22/2008, -28/+94Exactly, and you want to know why you never realized? Since there really isn't much of a difference between PS3/360 games that can't be fixed by changing the brightness of your TV.
- neonoodle, on 12/22/2008, -30/+96I'm not gonna pay 3 times the price of a 360 or PS3 so I could see a fence in the background sooner. The differences are negligible, and as such, people should be amazed that a $300 machine can perform almost as well as a $900-$2000 computer.
- RandaII, on 12/22/2008, -43/+106Fanboy much?
- alpacino718, on 12/22/2008, -1/+63lul wut
- MikeXpop, on 12/22/2008, -3/+63You're all missing the point. Why didn't Gamespot adjust the contrast to match the other systems before taking the shots? It gets pretty ridiculous in the GTA screens.
- elpresidente408, on 12/22/2008, -0/+59The contrast seems a little off
- TheCheeks, on 12/22/2008, -6/+61I like the PC better than any console, however I couldn't find a HUGE difference between that and the consoles. The gamma was a little better, and once in a while the tree branches would render better, but they were all fairly close.
- Teej, on 12/22/2008, -5/+58The PS3 can't blow the PC out of the water by design. It remains static as PC continuously become more powerful. I wasn't expecting it to be worse than the 360 though!
- ExRe, on 12/22/2008, -6/+58Depends more on the game and porting than anything else I'd assume.
The PS3 does have a lot more processing power when used correctly. - Smiff2, on 12/22/2008, -0/+51ffs.. yes another site that doesn't do the comparison properly.
use a full resolution
get the basic settings (brightness, gamma etc) equal.
only THEN can people start looking at details.
it's like comparing audio compression when the volumes are different.. people always like the louder one.
also, do poeople realise this tells you almost nothing about the consoles in a general sense.. only how well ported this engine was. - rdldr1, on 12/21/2008, -20/+68Look at the quality of the trees and objects in the background. Comparisons require looking at the details, DUH!!!
- konataXchan, on 12/22/2008, -3/+51The PC is always going to have better texture detail because of the amount of ram and graphical ram available.
- vivvivtzz, on 12/22/2008, -7/+54GTA PC trees ftw
- tofslie, on 12/22/2008, -19/+66Take a second look at the trees, the PS3 is much worse. But overall the PC is better.
- Pinkshisno, on 12/22/2008, -4/+46Those trees need to be super detailed or it ruins a game you know...
- gaminggeek, on 12/21/2008, -20/+62Anyone else not see a difference apart from the colour correction on the consoles?
- maninblack87, on 12/22/2008, -1/+40Rant away brother! Digg for you!
- inactive, on 12/22/2008, -2/+41rofl in my grave
- Harmatia, on 12/22/2008, -2/+40These pictures don't even show off resolution.
Most of those games arent even 720p on console.. .when on PC they could easily be 1080p or better. - JonnyIsElectric, on 12/22/2008, -1/+38lolocaust
- coldkill3r, on 12/22/2008, -1/+37roflcopter
- koldmilk, on 12/22/2008, -1/+36lmao
- CLShortFuse, on 12/21/2008, -5/+40Check out the trees in GTA4
- NoMercy, on 12/22/2008, -1/+34you can adjust the brightness on PC and 360 (probably on ps3 too i just don't own one) so that really doesn't affect me but detail wise PC ftw.
*yea yea "in mother russia you don't own ps3, ps3 owns you" - TalenKlaive, on 12/22/2008, -0/+32Actually, look a bit closer...the PC is less aliased, the trees look more realistic, and even though you can't see it as well in a still image, lighting looks a whole lot better on the PC than any console.
