Xbox 360 Failure Rate Mystery: Do the Math
gamepolitics.com — MS won't specify the hardware failure rate for the Xbox 360, but GamePolitics works the numbers...

- charlescheese, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3I think 1/3rd is actually the best estimate at this point. Keep in mind, Microsoft has had to repair these RROD 360's more than 1 time in MANY instances. That kind of throws the math off a bit, but we also must factor in the cost of the new heat sinks (not that those cost very much, but still). Until Softy says otherwise, that's the number that seems to make the most sense to me. Hopefully with 65nm they'll do a complete redesign. They'll sell a lot of consoles if they do, starting with me.

That would mean a 21.5% failure rate. But it's unclear where Fox may have gotten that number, at least I didn't hear any basis for it...
