- eastbeast314, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26Sweet - the tray will now show what game is in there.
I like improvements to a great system :) - ShadowMagic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21my favorite improvement has to be the improved achievement notification
- asif5th, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21New codecs have been added, including H.264. Unfortunately, theirs no mention of xvid or avi. Give us what we want MS.
- HeatVision, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Xbox.com has the full details:

Biggest improvement for me is the increased video codec support:
- H.264 video support: Up to 15 Mbps, Baseline, Main, and High (up to level 4.1) Profiles with 2 channel AAC LC and Main Profiles.
- Added MPEG-4 Part 2 video support: Up to 8 Mbps, Simple Profile with 2 channel AAC LC and Main Profiles. - snipes, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14Yea, it sucks having to press the guide button mid-game to see what you did...just interrupts the flow of fun.
Just hoping it doesn't kill my 360...am I the only one who closes my eyes when I click 'Accept Update'? - logicalnoise, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9"Extension of the background download functionality will allow owners to set their Xbox 360 console to turn off automatically after downloads are complete."
Great feature. I can't count the amount of times. I've been weary of leaving my 360 on all night just to downlaod a 1+ gig demo. - Unsanity, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Seems like Microsoft can't keep any of their announcements secret anymore, nonetheless I'm definitely liking a lot of the small changes like showing what game is in the tray and making it easier to delete content.
- madhellrazor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Mines for this: Support for streaming WM-DRM protected content from a PC which leads to this Windows Media protected content (WM-DRM) can now be streamed from the PC to the console. If the WM-DRM license is missing or corrupted then a specific error message is displayed to the user. Bookmarking is also stored for protected content.
So now I can stream my recorded TV shows from the PC to the 360, which is what we should have been able to do to start since its a whole "Media Center" - Echuta, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9@ilyag - "Competitors"...Right now Sony and Nintendo are so far away they can't even be considered competitors when it comes to online service. We'll see what they can actually deliver and then reevaluate.
- Flashypoo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7That, plus the new blade, should make everything a whole lot more convenient. :)
- jimbolla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Here's the official xbox.com announcement: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/community/news/2007/0408-im.htm
- dRuNk3nIrIsHmEn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Or FFXI... You know, the game that is actually out for XBox
- gage006, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5In addition to the Xvid/Divx debate it'd be nice to see podcast support. Let my 360 download from RSS!
Still some nice upgrades. - theonlyvlad, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Eh, don't be so quick to typecast people into "MySpace" crowd. Firstly, I think it's an elegant solution. The way I hold my controller, this keyboard wouldn't interfere with playing (except for the extra weight, maybe). It seems like a good thumb-based keyboard.
In a living room situation, haivng a big keyboard on your AV setup is clunky to say the least. And it's wired too. Simply from point of convenience, storage, and aesthetics this nice.
Uses? Well, I welcome Live Messenger integration. The next logical step is to have it work with video/audio chat on it too. I have family overseas, and while I can already web-cam chat via my PC, having it be in the living room on the big screen where all of us can gather on the couch and talk to family far away is awesome. The keyboard plays a role here, because without the keyboard, I doubt the messenger plugin would really take off....
Finally, as was mentioned above, I feel like this would dare some developers to push some MMOs to the ocnsole. If this accessory is cheap (say no more than 30 or 40, like the live cam) and maybe will be bundled into Gold subscription boxes (again, like the livecam), then people will easily pick this up to play something like WoW on the box. - krupawan5618, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Here's the summary:
* The redesigned Achievement notification pop-up (toast) will show the name of the unlocked Achievement and the gamerscore value. You’ll see this information the moment you earn an achievement. No more popping open the guide and interrupting your gameplay. (screenshot)

* Enhanced family settings features for Xbox LIVE communications enable different defaults for video chat and voice chat.
* A new Xbox LIVE Marketplace blade lets Xbox LIVE members access the content they seek - whether it is game content or TV shows and movies (available in the United States) - from one place.
* Updates to Xbox LIVE Arcade allow owners to see which Xbox LIVE Arcade games their friends are playing and join in the fun. Xbox LIVE members can also compare progress of leaderboard scores and Achievements directly with all friends on their friends list. The Tell a Friend capabilities have been expanded as well.
* A new option in Auto Downloads provides faster access to the entire collection of free, trial-version Xbox LIVE Arcade games.
* New progressive download controls provide easy access to optimal viewing options by letting people fast-forward, rewind, pause and resume as their video is downloaded from Xbox LIVE Marketplace.
* Extension of the background download functionality will allow owners to set their Xbox 360 console to turn off automatically after downloads are complete. - hoos30, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6ilyag: Why is this "astonishing". These companies are in the business to make money. MS, Sony, et al don't make anything from "The Pirate Bay".
- HeatVision, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3For those that don't want the trial versions of Arcade games showing up on your achievement lists, you can always create a free Silver account and try the game under that account. Although I agree trial versions of games shouldn't show up on the achievements, at least it's a temporary workaround...and if you create the account with in a different region, you can access some of that region's content :)
- T3rry, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I just hope they allow us to change the shape, size and location of the OSD for the messenger window, that could be very intrusive during game play.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Well the movie sure didn't look fake to me.
- Septimus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4You seem like someone who would use MySpace funnily enough.
- piper999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If you have Windows Media Connect on your PC you can do this by sharing the folder on your PC that your RSS feeds download to across to your Xbox 360.
Its how a lot of people (me included) watch Diggnation on their TVs instead of a computer/portable media player. - logicalnoise, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2the EU and MS rarely get along. Plus EU attacking Apple on their DRM is probably adding to MS' lack of devotion to the VOD market in Europe.
- Blizaine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Now if they could just integrate a web-browser... it would be cool to use one of the analog sticks as a mouse and the new keyboard attachment.
- Septimus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3DiVX is also used in legit downloads, the option to add DiVX support through a Market Place purchase would be something I and many others would jump at.
DiVX themselves should approach MS to release a player for 360. - negativefx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm with ya on the 3rd point...just because i had the trial of some live arcade game doesn't mean I want it to show up on my list of games!
as for the last one... what about the existing feature: group chat ? - gothicx00, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Yeah, no keyboard input was one of my biggest stumbling blocks in an argument for a decent MMO for the 360 or any other platform. Granted the PS2 had one, but thats just plain clunky. The reason for the keyboard addon extends far beyond Live integration as far as I'm concerned. To even think about making that cross platform Marvel MMO work, it's gonna need a keyboard of some sort. Point and click may work for those using a mouse and a keyboard, but hotkeys are definitely where it's at if you are talking about a console MMO. PvE would be a chore, and lets not even start talking about PvP. Those playing the PC version would mop the floor with any console player that didn't have some sort of keyboard interface. Navigating a cursor with an analog stick to point and click abilities would be a nightmare.
- estvir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I love how 1 or 2 things are leaked by people other than Microsoft and suddenly they can't keep 'any' secrets.
- Echuta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Probably because when you download the demo you've downloaded the entire game. Once the demo is downloaded you're basically only getting an activation key when you purchase it. I agree it would be nice though.
- dasluvaluva, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is *extremely* good news to me, as I've been converting all of my TV Shows to H264 for my iPod. Now that XBox360 will play them, I won't even need to consider the AppleTV, since I'm sure it'll play almost any h264 I through at it.
- hollismb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I can't believe my dumb ass hadn't thought of doing that yet.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7Considering that the most widely-used codec for downloadable movies is Xvid (BY FAR!), it's astonishing that they continue to refuse support for it on the Xbox 360.
- rewen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think getting the updates are exciting. I've never worried about anything going wrong and so far nothing's gone wrong :)
- T3rry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm with you on that one snipes
- gage006, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's actually what I do now but the convenience of it going straight to the 360 would rock.
- dRuNk3nIrIsHmEn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2You can already use USB keyboards on the 360... It's not like this is the only compatible keyboard.
- DrunKao, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Canada doesn't even have the TV and Movie downloads. So I doubt Europe would suddenly be seeing it any time soon.
- allisonaxe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i still just want them to remove XBLA demos from the achievement listings. why is that so hard?
- hollismb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Except for you can't add WMV video podcasts in iTunes, so now I'd have to download a seperate podcast application, which SUCKS. Then, I also realized that Media Player 11 doesn't do podcasts either. Which TOTALLY sucks.
- ShoulderKnight, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3I could see WoW working with this......
- tommyfullington, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good work my RL friend ;)
- Echuta, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yeah you're a real comedian.
- decipherd, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Add the things we want jeez, its not like they don't know - Major Nelson is always on about how they are so 'in touch' with the community.
- Divx Xvid support
- Double the speed of the dashboard. If the 360 has so much horespower why is the dashboard so ***** slow?!
- Let me delete games i don't play from my achievements, both arcade and full games
- Group chat!
oh, and TV & Movies in Europe wouldn't be a terrible addition either, afterall we do still get the icon for it just to rub it in our faces. - TheNik, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Man, I'm so disappointed with the lack of 16:10 resolutions (specifically 1440x900). It can't _honestly_ be that hard to implement, can it?
Actually, to tell the truf, I'd be happy if it just displayed 720p with a border. Guess I can't be that lucky. - samdu, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I'm amazed that this "feature" wasn't there to start with.
- Sefirosu, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Controller with keyboard attachment reminds me of the Jaguar's controller... still this is nice.
- Turbosc, on 10/12/2007, -7/+5sweet, keyboards.
I hope it's not ridiculously priced like the $179 120GB HDDs... - Echuta, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Ah yeah at first I didn't realize it was just an attachment to your current controller. I thought it was a new controller they were going to try to push...doesn't seem quite as lame now. Still I prefer a wireless keyboard. Oh heh and I'll stop typecasting the MySpace and @aol crowds when I find some examples to the contrary ;P
- kicksave, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2No Web Browser, No IPTV, No Big Revolutionary thing for adults. 9Sorry Windows Live Messenger does not impress. More self serving to Microsoft than anything else. Dissapointed.
Why Web Browser. because sometimes it would be easier to view my bungie stats online Halo 2 via the tv integrated within the game. Plus allow for more integration between the web and games, i.e. forums, updates, information, etc.
Well that and pron. =) - negativefx, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3@ilyag: don't know why you got dugg down, but my guess is because you didn't bash ps3 in your comment. you really should have added a '...and ***** sony!!#$%#@$%' at the end of your comment!
- negativefx, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2@ilyag: don't you mean valmorphanize?
